Both of acidogenesis and denitrification were observed at an acidogenic reactor fed with synthetic substrate which contained glucose and citrate. The acidogenic reactor to which nitrate was not fed completely decompose glucose. But the glucose degradation rate decreased with the COD/NO3--N ratio of the substrate decreased. When nitrate was fed to acidogenic reactor of two phase anaerobic digestion, the accumulation of nitrite was not observed under low COD/NO3--N. Based on nitrogen balance, each ratios of influent nitrogen to nitrogen gas at COD/NO3--N of 50, 30, 15, 9, 6 and 3 were 1.83, 3.75, 6.75, 11.4, 36.4 and 20.3 %, respectively, the highest conversion ratio of nitrate to nitrogen gas was also observed at the COD/NO3--N of 6. Based on COD balance, the ratio of denitrifying bacterial biomass to influent COD were increased with decreasing the COD/NO3--N of the substrate from 9 to 3.

At the end of last year, Korean nuclear power plants, APR-1400 and a research reactor have been contracted to build plants at United Arab Emirates and Jordan. Since 1959, a historical background of nuclear technologies in Korea is summarized. The safety requirements for Instrumentation and Control (I&C) systems in Nuclear Power Plants (NPP) are discussed. Specific descriptions on the typical safety classification of I&C systems, the definitions of the electrical class 1E and the countermeasures against common caused failures are provided. And summaries of typical I&C systems such as the protection systems, the control systems, the instrumentations, the monitoring systems and a control room in NPP are introduced. Strict requirements on the development of the digital computer systems in nuclear applications are described.
