This thesis aims to inquire into Chinese poetry left behind by those scholars and pupils who studied at Yeongyeong Seowon School, the first school of its kind established in the Daegu area. The poetry can be classified into two categories: One is Whaam Seowon School (畫巖書院) - original name of Yeongyeong Seowon School - poems by Toegye Yi Hwang(李滉) and subsequent poems mocking those of Yi Hwang(李滉). The other is poems written freely with no connection to Yi Hwang's poems. Out of these two categories of poetry, the latter can further be divided into yet two different kinds. The first is poems reciting the rocks of fantastic shape(畫巖) lying in the west part of the School and the other is poems other than those about the rocks. Of those poems written at the school, this thesis deals with those written in accordance with Toegye's Whaam Seowon School poems and other poems recited about the rocks of fantastic shape(畫巖). The writer of this thesis has extracted those poems mentioned above out of various collections of works concerned,. They had been written for 400 years from mid-Chosun Dynasty era to late-Chosun Dynasty of King Kojong’s reign by the scholars and pupils who either studied or visited the School. 13 scholars and pupils including Yi Joo, Seo Sa-won, Do Seong-yu wrote poems about Whaam Seowon School(畫巖書院), mocking Yi Hwang's poems and 11 including Yi Joo, Son Choe-null(孫處訥), Do Seong-yu(都聖兪) recited about the rocks(畫巖). The writer has put all the original texts in the thesis and made interpretations of them. In particular, poems by Yi Si-bal(李時發) and Kim Gi-nam(金止男), then governors(觀察使) are included. A look at the poems about the rocks of fantastic shape(畫巖) - especially those by Koo Yeon-gan(具然侃), Chae Gwi-hae(蔡龜海), Chae Byeong-dal(蔡炳達) reveals the rise and fall of Yeongyeong Seowon School. 이 논문은 조선 중기 대구지역 최초의 서원인 연경서원에서 활동한 유림들이 남긴 시를 고찰한 것이다. 이 시는 크게 두 종류로 나눌 수 있다. 첫 번째는 퇴계 이황의 화암서원(畫巖書院) 시와 이 시에 차운(次韻)한 시이고, 두 번째는 이황의 시의 운자(韻字)와는 관련이 없이 자유로운 형식으로 지어진 시이다. 이 두 종류의 시 중에서 후자 즉 자유로운 형식으로 지어진 시는 또 두 부분으로 나눌 수 있다. 하나는 이 서원의 서쪽에 있는 기암(奇巖)인 화암(畫巖)에 대하여 읊은 시와 그 외의 시로 분류할 수 있다. 본 논고에서는 이 서원에서 지어진 시 가운데 퇴계의 화암서원의 운(韻)에 따라 지은 차운시(次韻詩)와 화암에 대하여 읊은 시에 대하여 고찰한 것이다. 이 시(詩)들은 연경서원이 창건된 조선 중기부터 말기인 고종 때까지 400여 년간 이곳에서 활동한 유림과 방문한 관리들이 지은 시를 논자가 수집한 것이다. 화암서원에 관한 차운으로는 이주, 서사원, 도성유 등 13인의 시이고, 화암을 읊은 시는 이주, 손처눌, 도성유 등 11인의 시이다. 모두 원문을 수록하고 해석을 하고 설명을 붙인 것이다. 특히 화암서원에 대한 차운시 중에는 당시의 관찰사 이시발, 김지남의 시가 포함되어 있다. 또 화암에 관한 시 중에서 구연간, 채귀해, 채병달의 시를 고찰하면 연경서원의 흥폐(興廢)를 볼 수 있다.

Background: Despite the great potential of human embryonic stem cell (hESC)-derived cardiac progenitor cells (CPCs) in the cardiac cell transplantation, the low graft survival still remains as one of the main obstacles in the way to its clinical application. We investigated whether pre-treatment with isoflurane can decrease apoptosis of hESC-derived CPCs under oxidative stress. Methods: Undifferentiated hESCs were differentiated in suspension media with 20% fetal bovine serum (FBS) and 20 ng/ml of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-4 through embryoid bodies and grown onto Matrigel-coated plates for 2 or 3 weeks. To identify the differentiated CPCs, immunostaining for nonspecific transcriptional marker (Nkx2.5) was performed. The CPCs were exposed to oxidative stress induced by Fenton reaction with H2O2 and FeSO4. For anesthetic preconditioning, CPCs were exposed to isoflurane (5 vol%) in an isolated chamber. Apoptosis of CPCs was determined by TUNEL staining and detection of activated caspase-3 cell. Results: hESC-derived CPCs stained with Nkx2.5 were 95 ± 3%of total cell number. Concentration of isoflurane in the media was 1.1 mM (2.2 MAC). Pretreatment of CPCs with isoflurane showed a significantly lower TUNEL (+) ratio as well as activated caspase-3cell number compared to control. Conclusions: Isoflurane decreased hESC-derived Nkx2.5+ CPCs apoptosis induced by oxidative stress. This result suggests that anti-apoptotic effect may play a role in the protective effect of isoflurane.
The influence of propofol and sevoflurane on hemostasis: a rotational thromboelastographic study

Background: Using rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM)analysis, we investigated the difference in blood hemostasis, basedon the primary anesthetic agents used during general anesthesia. Methods: Sixty-six adult patients scheduled for elective ophthalmicsurgery under general anesthesia were evaluated with regardto changes in each parameter in INTEM, EXTEM, and FIBTEManalyses. The patients received intravenous anesthesia with propofoland remifentanil (TIVA group) or inhalation anesthesia with sevoflurane(SEVO group). The ROTEM tests were performed 10 minbefore starting anesthesia and 1 h after finishing anesthesia. TheINTEM and EXTEM analyses included the clotting time (CT), clotfirmness time (CFT), alpha angle (α), and maximum clot firmness(MCF). The FIBTEM analyzed only MCF. Maximum clot elasticity(MCE) was calculated by (MCF × 100) ÷ (100 − MCF). The plateletcomponent of clot strength was calculated as follows: MCEplatelet =MCEEXTEM − MCEFIBTEM. Results: The preoperative and postoperative parameters (CT,CFT, α, and MCF) in the INTEM, EXTEM, and FIBTEM analyseswere not significantly different between the two groups. TheMCEplatelet also did not show a significant difference. Conclusions: Presuming that the ophthalmic surgery had aminimal traumatic effect, we conclude that both anesthetic agentscause negligible changes in ROTEM analyses postoperatively.
