        A perception-based analysis of voice onset time (VOT) dissimilation in Korean

        This study examines the perceptual motivation behind dissimilation. Consistent with previous arguments suggesting that dissimilation originates from perception rather than production (Coetzee, 2005; Kiparsky, 2003; Scheer, 2013), we hypothesized that an oral stop with short of voice onset time (VOT) would be recognized as non-aspirated more often when it is followed by an aspirated stop with a long VOT. This hypothesis was tested through a perception experiment in which 32 Korean listeners made judgments on the first consonant of C1VC2V words manipulated with C1 VOT and C2 types. The results revealed that aspirated-based C1 was recognized as aspirated or tense depending on the duration of VOT, while lenis-based C1 was consistently recognized as lenis. The dissimilatory effect of aspirated C2 was confirmed as anticipated, and furthermore, tense C2 increased the ratio of tense responses more than aspirated C2. These results provide evidence of a perceptual bias against recurrent aspirated stops, which may play a role in activating a dissimilatory rule or constraint in a language. The assimilatory effect of tense C2 is in consistent with findings indicating that word-initial tensification is facilitated by the following tense stop in Korean (Kang & Oh, 2016; H. Kim, 2016).

        무선 멀티미디어 통신 환경에서 적응변조시스템의 성능개선

        본 논문에서는 무선 멀티미디어 통신 시스템 환경에서 고속의 전송데이터를 전송할 시스템을 이루기 위해 적응변조 방식을 적용한 Truncated Type-II Hybrid ARQ 방식과 부호화 기법을 제안하였다. 여기서, 나카가미 페이딩 채널 환경으로 적응변조방식을 해석하였다. 적응변조 시스템은 나카가미 페이딩 지수에 따라서 변조 레벨과 심볼율을 제어할 수 있다. Eb/No가 높거나 나카가미 페이딩 지수 m이 높을 경우 이 시스템은 높은 변조 레벨과 높은 심볼율을 선택하여 전송 효율을 증가시키는데 목적이 있다. 이와 반대로, Eb/No가 낮을 경우, 전송 성능 감소를 막기 위해 낮은 변조 레벨과 낮은 심볼율을 선택한다. 변조 방법으로는 QPSK, 16QAM, 64QAM, 256QAM 방식을 채용하였다. Truncated Type-II Hybrid ARQ 기법에 의한 적응변조 방식은 실시간 처리 및 고 신뢰도가 요구되는 무선 멀티미디어 통신 시스템에 적용이 가능하리라 판단된다. This paper proposes a Truncated Type-II Hybrid ARQ scheme and coding techniques using an adaptive modulation system to achieve high throughput data transmission systems for wireless multimedia communication systems. In this paper, the adaptive modulation system analyzed in Nakagami (m-distribution) fading channel environment. The adaptive modulation system controls the modulation level and symbol rate according to the Nakagami fading parameter(m). When the received Eb/No is high or the Nakagami fading parameter m is high, the propose system selects higher modulation level and higher symbol rate to increase throughput. On the other hand, this system selects lower modulation level and lower symbol rate to prevent throughput performance degradation when the received Eb/No is low. The modulation method have been adopted QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying), 16QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), 64QAM, 256QAM. Therefore, adaptive modulation systems with truncated type-II hybrid ARQ scheme is proper for wireless multimedia communication system that require high reliability and delay-limited applications.

        SPICE를 이용한 16-BIT ALU의 회로 해석 및 설계에 관한 연구

        빠른 설계 시간 및 재 설계 가능성 부여 등에 주안점을 두어 고성능의 단일 칩 16-bit data path를 설계하였다. 원칙적인 설계 방법의 체계적인 연구를 위하여 module화의 개념을 근간으로한 설계방법을 도입하였으며, 이에 따라 각 내부블럭이 bus에 연결되어 독립적으로 동작하는 subsystem이 되도록 이를 결합하여 전체 시스템의 설계를 완성하였다. 시스템은 data path이다. Data path는 16-bit의 데이터를 처리하는 부분으로 ALU(Arithmetic Logic Unit), register file, barrel shifter 및 bus 회로로 구성된다. 이 회로에서의 게이트의 폭과 길이는 spice2를 사용하여서 결정하였다. 회로 시뮬레이션의 결과는 기대하였던 회로 특성과 잘 일치하였다. This paper present a new design concept of a single chip 16-bit data path using the concept of modular design, the whole system is divided into several blocks which can be operated as an independent system itself. Making the internal blocks can act as a subsystem, it is possible to shorten design turn-around time, to be redesigned effectively, and to optimize the system performance. The designed system is data path. The data path is to manipulate 16-bit integer data. It is composed of aritmetic logic unit, register file, barrel shifter and bus circuit. The widths and lengths of gate in the circuit were determined using SPICE2. The results of circuit simulation were in good agreement with expected circuit characteristics.

        The Realizations of /h/ in Seoul and Gwangju Koreans

        In Korean /h/ appears in the initial position of accentual phrase but it rarely does elsewhere. After obstruents, it merges with the preceding obstruent into an aspirated stop and after sonorants, it may be voiced or deleted in Seoul Korean. Based on the fact that /h/ may be deleted even after obstruents in Gwangju (and South-Western) Korean, we hypothesized that /h/ would delete more often after sonorants in Gwangju than in Seoul. In addition, we aimed to examine the dialectal difference at the phonetic and the phonological levels. We analyzed underlying and derived aspirated stops and /h/ in a small reading corpus, which consists of five stories read by three Seoul speakers and three Gwangju speakers in their 50's. The duration of /h/ was measured in assistance with the center of gravity values of every 10ms sections. The results showed that /h/ was deleted after obstruents in Gwangju as expected, but the VOT of aspirated stops were not significantly longer in Seoul than in Gwangju. Similarly, /h/ was weaked or deleted more often in Gwangju than in Seoul, but the duration of voiceless and voiced /h/s was not significantly longer in Seoul. These results suggest that the dialectal difference is construed as a matter of optionality, which takes place at the phonological level. The Maxent Grammar Tool gave a much higher weight to Max(h) in the Seoul data than in the Gwangju data. Accordingly, we argue that the difference is contributed to the relatively strong requirement to preserve /h/ in Seoul.

        라이시안 페이딩 환경에서 터보 부호화 기법을 채용한 S/CDMA GMSK 변조의 성능 분석

        본 논문에서는 라이시안 페이딩 환경에서 DS/CDMA GMSK 변조 시스템을 제안하고, 제안시스템의 성능을 해석하였다. 또한, 제안시스템의 성능개선 기법으로 터보 부호화 기법을 채용하여 음성, 데이터 통신뿐만 아니라 멀티미디어 통신에도 적용가능하리라 예상된다. In this paper, we analyzed performance of proposed system ad DS/CDMA GMSK system in rician fading environment. Also, we expected that proposed system with turbo code scheme is applicable system for voice, data and multimedia communication.
