도자제인형 개발에 관한 연구 - 지역 축제 캐릭터를 중심으로 -

What kinds of dolls are there in Korea? The matter "Are there any Korean dolls?" is equivalent to the question "Are there any Koreans?" These questions show us that our cultures are mostly lacking in the identity. Not only dolls but also living space of food, clothes and shelter and traditional industrial arts seems considerably to imitate those of other countries. Though a little too late, it is an extremely good luck that there is the atmosphere to recognize our identity. Even in the middle of 1980s there was necessarily the curriculum to make traditional dolls in school home economics classes. Students in those days might take the classes that made dolls stitch by stitch with a needle. However even this remains as just an old scene which vanishes in our memory. Even in the world doll exhibition held every year, surrounded with plastic smile from a lor of character dolls and Barbies and ball jointed dolls whose nationalities are unknown it seems that we start serious agony on the absence of our tradition. Based upon this concept, as it is regarded that the classical novels has the closest relation with Korean traits, if we develop the characters of "The Story of Chun Hyang, a Chaste Woman", "The Story of Shim Chung, a Filial Daughter", "The Story of Hong Gil dong, a Chivalrous Robber" related with local festivals and inform the public of them, they will be the area with the rich developmental possibility as high added value products. In addition we need to develop pottery dolls as meaningful souvenirs in local festivals for us and foreigners who visit our country and to make them tourism souvenirs which show the characteristics of our country through the easy and simple manufacturing process. They will become the good means of showing our traditional culture and also transmitting even our warm heart. It is expected that the continuous interest of the pottery dolls and the development of the materials will result in the bright future. 한국의 특징을 나타내며 한국을 대표하는 인형에는 무엇이 있는가 하는 문제는한국적 인형이 존재 하는가 라는 질문과 일치하는 의미로서, 이와 같은 질문이 쉽게 대두됨은 우리 문화의 오늘이 다분히 주체적이지 못했음에서 연유되는 것이라 본다. 비단 인형뿐만이 아니라 일상적 의식주에 따르는 생활공간은 물론 전통공예에 이르기까지 남의 것을 모방하는 추세 속에 뒤늦게나마 우리 자신의 정체성을 새롭게 인식하는 바람이 불고 있음은 그나마 다행이다. 1980년대 중반까지만해도 학교의 미술이나 가정시간에는 전통인형을 만드는 교과과정이 꼭 들어가 있었다. 한땀 한땀 손바느질로 인형을 만드는 수업 시간을 한 번쯤은 거쳤을 것이다. 이 또한 옛날의 풍경으로 우리의 추억으로만 자리한다. 국내에는 각종 인형 공모전 및 많은 문화관광 상품전이 열린다. 그런데 국적 불명의 캐릭터 인형인 바비와 미미의 플라스틱 미소에 둘러싸인 우리는 이제야 전통의 부재를 놓고 심각하게 고심하기 시작한 듯하다. 그러면 우리는 전통적이며 한국적 이미지가 잘 나타난 인형이나 캐릭터는 어떠한 것일까? 그것은 아마도 시대적 상황을 바탕으로 한 고전문학소설에 나타난 캐릭터야말로 한국적 특징이 가장 잘 드러나 있다고 생각된다. 즉, 호남지역의 지역축제 중 고전문학 소설을 주제로 설정한 남원시의 춘향제, 곡성군의 심청 축제, 장성군의 홍길동축제 등의 주제인 춘향전, 심청전, 홍길동전의 캐릭터나 이를 입체화 한 공예품으로 개발하여 홍보한다면 고부가가치를 지닌 상품으로서 충분한 가치가 있으리라 생각된다. 특히 각 지역 설화를 중심으로 한 캐릭터 도제인형을 개발하여 대량 생산이 가능한 체제를 갖추어 관광 상품화 한다면 우리의 고전문학이 단순한 상품화로 끝나는 것이 아니라 우리나라를 방문하는 외국인들에게 따뜻한 마음까지도 전달할 수 있는 뜻 깊은 기념품이 될 수 있을 것이다.
