Crack in the Taegeukgi : Symbolisation of Nationalism and the Changes in the State-System in Korea

Focusing on the popular usage of the national flag in South Korea, this study aims to investigate the relationship between informal nationalism and the formal order of the state in Korea. Historically, from its legal adoption as an official symbol and its proliferation into society, South Korea’s national flag, Taegeukgui, has experienced changes in its meaning. It has been used for varied purposes: legitimising the military and developmental state, mobilising the democratic resistance against the authoritarian state, commercialising the national image in the market, and rehabilitating neo-conservative forces. Based on the methodology of discursive institutionalism, the author attempts to elucidate that this historically constructed hegemonic taken-for-grantedness of the national symbols gets broken when certain political groups use them to emphasise their exclusive meaning in a symbol. This study highlights that as those groups explicitly use the national symbols to legitimise their political opinion, they implicitly show the crisis of the state-system order, which they believe in as a legitimate agency of the nation. This implication will be helpful in a broader understanding of the similar usage of the national flags recently arising around the world in right-wing populist rallies.

The relationship of exercise-induced superoxide radicals and aging have been reviewed as they pertain to wellness. Mechanism of superoxide radicals formation and antioxidants were presented, and certain diseases from oxidative stress were shown to be implicated in promoting aging. These limited illustrations of exercise-induced superoxide radicals and aging are evidence that the property of intensity and duration exercise is important not only in keeping human health and physical fitness from oxidative stress, but also for the maintenance of well-being and quality of life. Even though exercise may induce superoxide radical, exercise is essential for human wellness if we are to select exercise condition(intensity, duration, time, and type of exercise) properly.
초경량 블록 암호 CHAM에 대한 CPA 공격과 대응기법 제안

Ultra-lightweight password CHAM is an algorithm with efficient addition, rotation and XOR operations on resource constrained devices. CHAM shows high computational performance, especially on IoT platforms. However, lightweight block encryption algorithms used on the Internet of Things may be vulnerable to side channel analysis. In this paper, we demonstrate the vulnerability to side channel attack by attempting a first power analysis attack against CHAM. In addition, a safe algorithm was proposed and implemented by applying a masking technique to safely defend the attack. This implementation implements an efficient and secure CHAM block cipher using the instruction set of an 8-bit AVR processor. 초 경량암호 CHAM은 자원이 제한된 장치 상에서 효율성이 뛰어난 덧셈, 회전연산, 그리고 XOR 연산으로 이루어진 알고리즘이다. CHAM은 특히 사물인터넷 플랫폼에서 높은 연산 성능을 보인다. 하지만 사물 인터넷 상에서 사용되는 경량 블록 암호화 알고리즘은 부채널 분석에 취약할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 CHAM에 대한 1차 전력 분석 공격을 시도하여 부채널 공격에 대한 취약성을 증명한다. 이와 더불어 해당 공격을 안전하게 방어할 수 있도록 마스킹 기법을 적용하여 안전한 알고리즘을 제안하고 구현 하였다. 해당 구현은 8-비트 AVR 프로세서의 명령어셋을 활용하여 효율적이며 안전한 CHAM 블록암호를 구현하였다.
물 분자막의 두께와 윤활특성의 상관관계에 대한 분자시뮬레이션 연구

This paper presents a numerical investigation of the influence of water molecule thickness on frictional behavior at the nanoscale using molecular dynamics simulation. Three different models, comprising water thin films of various thicknesses, were built, and indentation and sliding simulations were performed using the models. Various normal loads were applied by indenting the Si tip on the water film for the sliding simulation to evaluate the interplay between the water thin film thickness and the normal load. The results of the simulations showed that the friction force generally increased with respect to the normal load and thickness of the water thin film. The friction coefficient varied with respect to the normal load and the water film thickness. The friction coefficient was the smallest under a moderate normal force and increased with decreasing or increasing normal loads. As the water film became thicker, the contact area between the tip and water film became larger. Under well-lubricated conditions, the friction force was proportional to the contact area regardless of the water film thickness. As the normal force increased above a critical condition, the water molecules beneath the Si tip spread out; thus, the film could not provide lubrication. Consequently, the substrate was permanently deformed by direct contact with the Si tip, while the friction force and friction coefficient significantly increased. The results suggest that a thin water film can effectively reduce friction under relatively low normal load and contact pressure conditions. In addition, the contact area between the contacting surfaces dominates the friction force.
