The cultural theory of laurel forest is a significant theory proposed by Japanese scholars in the 1960s, which aimed to investigate the origin of Japanese national culture. The southwest China is the core of the laurel forest zone, where distributes ethnic minorities with different cultures. They have similar way of life and production because of the similarity of natural environment and the ecological structure in living area. Therefore, in the deep structure of their diverse culture, there are common material and spiritual culture elements. Using the interdisciplinary researching method, Japanese scholars combine the theory and methods of ecology, crop science and ethnology to explore the cultural convergence of minorities that lives in laurel forest zone, and carry out the comparative study between southwest China minorities’ culture and Japan’s grassroots culture, that both enrich and develop the cultural theory of laurel forest, make which becoming one of the most persuasive origin theory of Japanese national culture, but also effectively promote the comprehensive and deep development of the researching to southwest minority, and further more provide a reference on how to explore the eco-development path of southwest China minority.
