花井理香 한국일어일문학회 2012 日語日文學硏究 Vol.82 No.1
This study focuses on parental values and attitude when they consider a language transmission for their children within an intermarried family. From this standpoint,we aim to prove, even when the criteria for the language choice are equal, whether or not there are any differences owing to the effects of society and if so, what are the factors influencing the language choice. The subjects of this study are 105Japanese mothers who were residing in Korea they were married to Korean citizens and 35 Korean mothers who were residing in Japan they were married to Japanese citizens. By conducting a series of surveys, we analyzed the use of the mother’s native language (being the minority language) and the contrasts between the parents’attitudes toward the language heritage. As a result, a prominent difference within both groups regarding the use of the mother’s native tongue by the children was observed, and there was a particularly low rate of occurrence when the mother was Korean. Furthermore, according to the t-test, the contrasting results between parents’ attitudes toward the language heritage yielded 7 of the 29 questions for the mothers and 2of the 10 questions for the fathers. We looked at the occurrence rates of the mother’s native tongue in the children and the average variations in the attitudes toward the language heritage. Accordingly,we concluded that the improvements in government policies and social systems, the values and educational assessment of the mother’s native tongue within the country of residence, and parental stance on potential study abroad in the mother’s home country are thought to influence the transmission of the mother’s language heritage where the mother’s native tongue is the minority language.
