      • Macbeth 에 나타난 Biblical Echoes

Vol.27 No.1

Summary Macbeth is the world's most famous dramatic tale of chme and punishment. It, atthe first glance, is full of evil and is about damnation. Macbeth sells his soul tothe Devil as surely as did Faust. He is tempted not by the Prmce of Darknesshimself but by his emissaHes, the witches. They 르1re more than his secret agents. They are Satanic incarnation, however partial, of his compulsion to evi1.mevitably, they set about captuhng another soul for their lord and master, Satan. in order to present aconvmcing image of damnation, however, Shakespeare had to describe and create the good which Macbeth had sacHficed. Reading the play indetail, therefore, we can appreciate that there are also grace, life and brightnesswhich are contrasted with evil and darkness. The play stil1 contams manyantitheses which are not to be found under such headings as life and death, dayand night, grace and evil, Angel and Devi1.It may even be suggested that thearchetypal antitheses which means the contrast of God and Satan in the Bible ishidden in Macbeth. Considering carefully the circumstances of Duncan's Death, we can fme thefigure of Christ in Duncan. And in the phase of Malcolm's attack on Dunsmanewith the power above, we also fmd the figure of second coming Christ m Malcolm, and m many pads of Macbeth's speech and action, the figure of Adam or JudasIscariot mstigated by Satan who manipulate the Witches and Apparitions m theplay. Malcolm and his allies are namely the instrument of powers above, and areGod's soldiers. They are the enemies of Macbeth to which he is a butcher, atyrant, a hel1-kite, a hellhound. in conclusion, Macbeth is the lnost Christian of Shakespeare's Works because of itsarchetypal fitting to the Bible. Just as this world, endovred to Satan by the fall of Adam, will be restored by the second coming Christ. so Scotland, devasted by thefall of Macbeth, which draws for its precedent on both Genesis and Revelation, is restored by Malcolm and his al1ies.

Vol.6 No.-

The Monte-Carlo Method is adopted to define the roughness of the mask structure. A random surface height variation described by power spectral density for the rough surfaces of an estreme ultraviolet (EUV) mask is to be redefined to calculate the field in the image plane. A general explicit formula of the scattering, which is analogous to Feynman's approach, is derived, and it is adapted to the EUV mask structure to evaluate the effect of the surface roughness of the side wall of the mask topography on the image formation. The multiple random scattering problems are dealt with the different pattern types in order to compare field variations in phase and amplitude with the ideal flat surface.

      • The Winter's Tale

Vol.36 No.-

From the religious and ideological perspective of the Elizabethean period, the theme, plot, characters, techniques, ways of expression, ways of simile, and symbolism in Shakespeare's works can be said to have been influenced by the Bible. Because the conception of world order and the theological scheme of sin and salvation were for the Elizabethans a principal matter, Shakespeare described the characters in his works as persistently seeking an eternal life through the salvation of the human spirit. Along this line, this paper is concerned with the analysis of the philosophy of Shakespeare himself, as well as the study of the Biblical influences on Shakespeare's themes, plots, characters, ways of expression, techniques, uses of simile and symbolism as reflected in The Winter's Tale. In addition, this paper deals, in particular, with the comparison of Shakespeare's philosophy of the salvation of the human spirit with that of the Bible. The Winter's Tale deals, in spite of the pagan setting with Christian salvation, reconciliation and a new life through repentance and God's forgiveness. The Winter's Tale presents us with more than moralistic world as the good are eventually rewarded and even the sinners forgiven. It has been suggested that this moralism indicates the Christian theology intended in the use of the classical gods and goddesses. We find characters who endure suffering and hardship after crime, either as punishment, as with Leontes or seemingly arbitrarily, as with Hermione and Perdita. But in The Winter's Tale suffering eventually receives reward, largely as a result of the human practice of the Christain virtues of patience, grace, mercy and forgiveness. The Winter's Tale ends of a peaceful note of harmony after confessions, reconciliations and reunions, in which the characters play tribute to the gods. The reunion of sepererated characters and the climax in forgivenes and salvation are recognized as the consequence of God's grace and the hidden control of Divine Power. In The Winter's Tale, Shakespeare utilized the biblical elements in order to achieve his goal of the salvation of man. In this play is underlying such biblical themes as commandment, mercy, temptation, atonement, sin, punishment, suffering, salvation, forgiveness, regeneration and new life. Eventually, Shakespeare, as a purposive artist, in this play, sought for the rebirth of man as a new man, free of sin, and for the subsequent new life, full of peace, love and happiness, in the new world, "a new heaven and a new earth."(Re. 21:1)

Vol.36 No.11

Low-density silica gel monolith was synthesized at ambient pressure by surface modification with TMCS and sub-sequent heat treatment. The mechanical thermal and optical properties of gel were studied. Compressive strength and modulus of compression of 350$^{\circ}C$-heated gel with the density of 0.24g/cm3 were 250kPa and 0.2MPa respectively. The thermal conductivity of silica gels synthesized at ambient pressure exhibited 0.02 W/m$.$K for the density of 0.24g/cm3 which is similar to that of the gel via supercritical drying and their main thermal transfer mechanism is considered to be solid and radiation conduction at room temperature. Ambient-dried silica gels were transparent blue showing about 60% of transmittance in the wavelength of 1500-2100nm and typical absorption bands of existing bonds under heat treatment at 350$^{\circ}C$. Medium scale monolity(${\Phi}$=50mm) at ambient pressure could be successfully prepared through total 5-month process period.
