        ON CONVERGENCE OF THE MODIFIED GAUSS-SEIDEL ITERATIVE METHOD FOR H-MATRIX LINEAR SYSTEM

        In 2009, Zheng and Miao [B. Zheng and S.-X. Miao, Two new modified Gauss-Seidel methods for linear system with M-matrices, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 233 (2009), 922-930] considered the modified Gauss-Seidel method for solving M-matrix linear system with the preconditioner $P_{max}$. In this paper, we consider the modified Gauss-Seidel method for solving the linear system with the generalized preconditioner $P_{max}({\alpha})$, and study its convergent properties when the coefficient matrix is an H-matrix. Numerical experiments are performed with different examples, and the numerical results verify our theoretical analysis.

        VvMYBA6 in the promotion of anthocyanin biosynthesis and salt tolerance in transgenic Arabidopsis

        Transcription factor MYB is a critical factor involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis and abiotic stress resistance of plants. This paper reports the functions of codon-optimized transcription factor VvMYBA6 expressed in transgenic Arabidopsis plants. VvMYBA6 overexpression resulted in significant increase of anthocyanin content, which also enhanced salt and mannitol tolerance in transgenic Arabidopsis plants. Besides, real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis showed that overexpression of VvMYBA6 promoted the expression level of genes involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis, abscisic acid (ABA) synthesis, proline synthesis, stress responses and ROS scavenging under salt and mannitol stress. According to further analysis under salt and mannitol stress, overexpression of VvMYBA6 significantly increased ABA and proline content, activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD) and catalase (CAT), as well as reduced the content of H2O2 and malonaldehyde (MDA). The results demonstrated that the overexpression of VvMYBA6 enhanced salt and mannitol tolerance based on increasing synthetic levels of anthocyanin and ABA in transgenic Arabidopsis plants. Therefore, the overexpression of VvMYBA6 could be widely used in promoting salt tolerance in plants.

      • Telomere-Mitochondrion Links Contribute to Induction of Senescence in MCF-7 Cells after Carbon-Ion Irradiation

        The effects of carbon-ion irradiation on cancer cell telomere function have not been comprehensively studied. In our previous report cancer cells with telomere dysfunction were more sensitive to carbon-ion irradiation, but the underlying mechanisms remained unclear. Here we found that telomerase activity was suppressed by carbon-ion irradiation via hTERT down-regulation. Inhibition of telomere activity by MST-312 further increased cancer cell radiosensitivity to carbon-ion radiation. hTERT suppression caused by either carbon-ion irradiation or MST-312 impaired mitochondrial function, as indicated by decreased membrane potential, mtDNA copy number, mitochondrial mass, total ATP levels and elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS). PGC-$1{\alpha}$ expression was repressed after carbion-ion irradiation, and hTERT inhibition by MST-312 could further exacerbate this effect. Lowering the mitochondrial ROS level by MitoTEMPO could partially counteract the induction of cellular senescence induced by carbon-ion radiation and MST-312 incubation. Taken together, the current data suggest that telomere-mitochondrion links play a role in the induction of senescence in MCF-7 cells after carbon-ion irradiation.

        SAOR METHOD FOR FUZZY LINEAR SYSTEM

        In this paper, the symmetric accelerated overrelaxation (SAOR) method for solving $n{\times}n$ fuzzy linear system is discussed, then the convergence theorems in the special cases where matrix S in augmented system SX = Y is H-matrices or consistently ordered matrices and or symmetric positive definite matrices are also given out. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the theory.

        Sitagliptin attenuates endothelial dysfunction independent of its blood glucose controlling effect

        Although the contributions of sitagliptin to endothelial dysfunction in diabetes mellitus were previously reported, the mechanisms still undefined. Autophagy plays an important role in the development of diabetes mellitus, but its role in diabetic macrovascular complications is unclear. This study aims to observe the effect of sitagliptin on macrovascular endothelium in diabetes and explore the role of autophagy in this process. Diabetic rats were induced through administration of high-fat diet and intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin. Then diabetic rats were treated with or without sitagliptin for 12 weeks. Endothelial damage and autophagy were measured. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells were cultured either in normal glucose or in high glucose medium and intervened with different concentrations of sitagliptin. Rapamycin was used to induce autophagy. Cell viability, apoptosis and autophagy were detected. The expressions of proteins in c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK)-Bcl-2-Beclin-1 pathway were measured. Sitagliptin attenuated injuries of endothelium in vivo and in vitro. The expression of microtubuleassociated protein 1 light chain 3 II (LC3II) and beclin-1 were increased in aortas of diabetic rats and cells cultured with high-glucose, while sitagliptin inhibited the over-expression of LC3II and beclin-1. In vitro pre-treatment with sitagliptin decreased rapamycin-induced autophagy. However, after pretreatment with rapamycin, the protective effect of sitagliptin on endothelial cells was abolished. Further studies revealed sitagliptin increased the expression of Bcl-2, while inhibited the expression of JNK in vivo. Sitagliptin attenuates injuries of vascular endothelial cells caused by high glucose through inhibiting over-activated autophagy. JNK-Bcl-2-Beclin-1 pathway may be involved in this process.

        Chemosensitizing effect and mechanism of imperatorin on the anti-tumor activity of doxorubicin in tumor cells and transplantation tumor model

        Multidrug resistance of tumors has been a severe obstacle to the success of cancer chemotherapy. The study wants to investigate the reversal effects of imperatorin (IMP) on doxorubicin (DOX) resistance in K562/DOX leukemia cells, A2780/Taxol cells and in NOD/SCID mice, to explore the possible molecular mechanisms. K562/ DOX and A2780/Taxol cells were treated with various concentrations of DOX and Taol with or without different concentrations of IMP, respectively. K562/DOX xenograft model was used to assess anti-tumor effect of IMP combined with DOX. MTT assay, Rhodamine 123 efflux assay, RT-PCR, and Western blot analysis were determined in vivo and in vitro. Results showed that IMP significantly enhanced the cytotoxicity of DOX and Taxol toward corresponding resistance cells. In vivo results illustrated both the tumor volume and tumor weight were significantly decreased after 2-week treatment with IMP combined with DOX compared to the DOX alone group. Western blotting and RT-PCR analyses indicated that IMP downregulated the expression of P-gp in K562/DOX xenograft tumors in NOD/SCID mice. We also evaluated glycolysis and glutamine metabolism in K562/DOX cells by measuring glucose consumption and lactate production. The results revealed that IMP could significantly reduce the glucose consumption and lactate production of K562/DOX cells. Furthermore, IMP could also remarkably repress the glutamine consumption, α-KG and ATP production of K562/DOX cells. Thus, IMP may sensitize K562/DOX cells to DOX and enhance the antitumor effect of DOX in K562/DOX xenograft tumors in NOD/SCID mice. IMP may be an adjuvant therapy to mitigate the multidrug resistance in leukemia chemotherapy.

        Characterization and Mechanism Analysis of Flexible Polyacrylonitrile-Based Carbon Nanofiber Membranes Prepared by Electrospinning

        Carbon nanofiber membranes have a wide range of applications in energy and environmental fields with excellent thermal stability, electrical conductivity, and chemical resistance. Electrostatic spinning is a simple and effective technique to prepare nanofiber membranes; however, electrostatically spun carbon nanofiber membranes tend to be brittle, which is limiting the application of carbon nanofiber membranes. Herein, flexible carbon nanofiber (FCNF) membranes were prepared in this study by a simple procedure of electrostatic spinning, pre-oxidation, and carbonization. During the high-temperature carbonization process, tetra-butyl titanate (TBT) is transformed into TiO2 grains. The average diameter of FCNF rose with increasing the proportion of TBT. The stress–strain curves showed the best flexibility of FCNF-1.5. The grain size of TiO2 increased to 4.5 nm when carbonized at 1000 °C. TiO2 was shown to improve flexibility by relieving the stress concentration of cracks on the fiber surface, thus reducing the fracture of the produced FCNF.

        Multifunctional Polyacrylonitrile-based Pearl Nanofibrous Membrane Prepared by Electrospinning

        Pearl is a pure natural material, which has multifunctional properties such as anti-ultraviolet, anti-static and farinfraredphysiotherapy. In this study, a series of polyacrylonitrile/pearl nanofibrous membranes (PPFM) with different pearlpowders were prepared by the electrospinning method. The membranes were then investigated by scanning electronmicroscopy (SEM) and fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and their functional properties such as far-infraredemission, ultraviolet (UV) protection, and electrical resistivity were also studied. The experimental results reveal that pearlpowders can significantly enhance the far-infrared emission of polyacrylonitrile (PAN), and the average emissivity wasincreased up to 0.795 in the wavelength range of 8-14 μm when the pearl powder mass fraction increased to 9 %. In addition,the UV protection factor (UPF) of the membrane with 9 % pearl powder could reach 968, while the UPF of the pristine PANmembrane was only 11, and the electrical resistivity of PPFM was also improved after blending with pearl powders. Thestudy proves that pearl powder can efficiently endow the PAN with multifunctional properties for more promisingapplications.
