      • Cantharidin Combined with Chemotherapy for Chinese Patients with Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

Han, Li,Sun, Yi-Jie,Pan, Yong-Fu,Ding, Hao,Chen, Xi,Zhang, Xu Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.24

Background: This systematic analysis was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of cantharidin combined with chemotherapy in treating Chinese patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. Methods: Clinical studies evaluating the efficacy and safety of cantharidin combined with chemotherapy on response and safety for Chinese patients with colorectal cancer were identified using a predefined search strategy. Pooled response rate (RR) of treatment were calculated. Results: When cantharidin combined with chemotherapy, 4 clinical studies which included 155 patients with advanced colorectal cancer were considered eligible for inclusion. The systematic analysis suggested that, in all patients, pooled RR was 46.5% (72/155) in cantharidin combined regimens. Major adverse effects were neutropenia, leukopenia, fatigue, and anemia with cantharidin combined treatment; no treatment related deaths occurred. Conclusion: This systematic analysis suggests that cantharidin combined regimens are associated with high response rate and accepted toxicity in treating Chinese patients with metastatic colorectal cancer suggesting that randomized clinical trials are now warranted.

Novel organic-inorganic hybrid polyvinylidene fluoride ultrafiltration membranes with antifouling and antibacterial properties by embedding N-halamine functionalized silica nanospheres

        Han Wang,Zuo-Ming Wang,Xi Yan,Jun Chen,Wan-Zhong Lang,Ya-Jun Guo 한국공업화학회 2017 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.52 No.-

Novel polyvinylidenefluoride (PVDF) hybrid ultrafiltration membranes with antifouling and antibacterialproperties are prepared by embedding N-halamine functionalized silica nanospheres (HFSNs). With theaddition of HFSNs, the antifouling properties of PVDF membranes are significantly improved. The resultsreveal that the highest pure water permeationflux of 559.8 L m 2 bar 1 h 1 is attained when the 0.6 wt%HFSNs is added in the casting solution. The membrane of M-3 with 0.9 wt% HFSNs addition shows thehighest sterilization ratios of 97.1% and 97.0% against (escherichia coli) E. coli and (staphylococcus aureus)S. aureus respectively. After 6 times of inhibition-activation cycles, the membrane still remains 72.3%against E.coli.

Sclareol production in the moss Physcomitrella patens and observations on growth and terpenoid biosynthesis

        Xi-Wu Pan,Lei Han,Yu-Hua Zhang,Dong-Fang Chen,Henrik Toft Simonsen 한국식물생명공학회 2015 Plant biotechnology reports Vol.9 No.3

The moss Physcomitrella patens was engineered to produce the diterpenoid sclareol, an important precursor for the synthesis of ambergris substitutes for the perfume industry. The best total yield of sclareol was 2.84 mg/g dry weight (2.28 mg/l culture) obtained after 18 days of cultivation in liquid media (extracted from both media and cell pellet). The two active sclareol synthase genes were integrated in a random fashion, and linked with the ribosomal skip 2A under the control of the CaMV 35S promoter. We conclude that moss can produce sclareol and utilize the ribosomal skip 2A. In addition, we observed growth impairment in all our sclareol-producing lines and moss lines knocked out in the endogenous diterpene synthase (copalyl/kaurene synthase—PpCPS/KS). A RT-PCR study, with ubiquitin as the best reference gene, showed that there was a down-regulation of the transcription of the terpenoid biosynthetic genes in the PpCPS/KS knock out moss. This down-regulation was recovered by the introduction of the two sclareol synthases, suggesting that the regulation of the general terpenoid biosynthesis is very flexible and can be amended in future biotechnological engineering.

Centrifuge Model Tests and Numerical Simulations of the Landslide Evolution Process

        Han-Dong Liu,Jia-Xing Chen,Wen-Xi Han,Ye Wu,Dong-Dong Li 대한토목학회 2022 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.26 No.6

Centrifuge model tests and numerical simulations were performed to study the landslide evolution process and failure mechanism. A TLJ-500 geotechnical centrifuge was used for the experiments and landslide deformation and stress was monitored using high-precision differential displacement sensors and earth pressure micro-sensors. Discrete element numerical simulations were performed using PFC2D based on the experimental results. The findings show that the landslide evolution process can be divided into three stages: 1) compaction and consolidation; 2) uniform deformation; and 3) accelerated deformation and failure. The numerical simulation results verify the distinct stage characteristics of the landslide evolution process. According to the migration of microscopic soil mass particles within the landslide, stage 3) can be further divided into a deformation development stage and instability and failure stage. The simulation displacement monitoring curves and displacement map show distinct deformation characteristics and displacement indicators from stages 2) to 3) and from the deformation development stage to the instability and failure stage. The experimental and numerical results reveal the landslide failure mechanism: the upper part of the landslide thrusts and slides; the middle part squeezes; the lower part collapses; and shear plane penetration leads to landslide failure.

Anti-inflammatory effect of hispidin on LPS induced macrophage inflammation through MAPK and JAK1/STAT3 signaling pathways

        Han Ying-Hao,Chen Dong-Qin,Jin Mei-Hua,Jin Ying-Hua,Li Jing,Shen Gui-Nan,Li Wei-Long,Gong Yi-Xi,Mao Ying-Ying,Xie Dan-Ping,Lee Dong-Seok,Yu Li-Yun,Kim Sun-Uk,김지수,권태호,Cui Yu-Dong,Sun Hu-Nan 한국응용생명화학회 2020 Applied Biological Chemistry (Appl Biol Chem) Vol.63 No.3

Severe inflammatory reactions caused by macrophage activation can trigger a systemic immune response. In the present study, we observed the anti-inflammatory properties of hispidin on LPS induced RAW264.7 macrophage cells. Our results showed that hispidin treatment significantly reduced the production of cellular NO, IL-6 and reactive oxygen species (ROS) while has not inhibitory effect on TNF-α productions. Excitingly, hispidin treatment retains the phagocytosis ability of macrophages which enabling them to perform the function of removing foreign invaders. Signaling studies showed, hispidin treatment dramatic suppressed the LPS induced mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPK) and JAK/STAT activations. In conclusion, our findings suggest that hispidin may be a new therapeutic target for clinical treatment of macrophages-mediated inflammatory responses.

Effects of zinc-bearing palygorskite on rumen fermentation in vitro

        Mengjiao Chen,Yumeng Xi,Lin Zhang,Hanfang Zeng,Yeqing Li,Zhaoyu Han 아세아·태평양축산학회 2019 Animal Bioscience Vol.32 No.1

Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of zinc-bearing palygorskite (Zn-Pal) on rumen fermentation by in vitro gas-production system. Methods: In trial, 90 incubators were evenly divided into five groups: control (0% Zn-Pal), treatment I (0.2% Zn-Pal), treatment II (0.4% Zn-Pal), treatment III (0.6% Zn-Pal), and treatment IV (0.8% Zn-Pal). The contents of zinc for treatments were 0, 49, 98, 147, 196 mg/kg, respectively. The main chemical composition and microstructure of Zn-Pal was investigated by X-ray diffraction. The physicochemical features were evaluated by Zeta potential analysis, cation-exchange capacity, ethylene blue absorption and specific surface area (the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller method). In vitro gas production (GP) was recorded at 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, 60, and 72 h incubation. Incubation was stopped at 0, 6, 12, 24, 48, and 72 h and the inoculants were tested for pH, microbial protein yield (MCP), NH3-N, volatile fatty acids (VFAs), lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Results: The results showed that the GP in the treatment groups was not significantly different from the control groups (p>0.05). Compared to the control group, pH was higher at 24 h, 48 h (p<0.05), and 72 h (p<0.01) (range 6 to 7). The concentration of NH3-N in the three treatment groups was higher than in the control group at 24 h (p<0.01), meanwhile, it was lower at 48 h and 72 h (p<0.01), except in the treatment IV. The concentration of MCP in treatment I group was higher than in the control at 48 h (p<0.01). Compared with control, the LPS concentration in treatment III became lower at 12 h (p<0.05). Total VFAs in treatments were higher than in the control at 24 h, 48 h (p<0.05). Conclusion: These results suggest that the addition of Zn-Pal can improve the rumen fermentation, especially when adding 0.2% Zn-Pal.

Optimal Tracking Control for Discrete-time Systems with Multiple Input Delays under Sinusoidal Disturbances

        Shi-Yuan Han,Yue-Hui Chen,Dong Wang,Gong-You Tang,Xi-Xin Yang 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2015 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.13 No.2

This study researches the tracking control problem for discrete-time systems with multiple input delays affected by sinusoidal disturbances. This study is organized around the expression of sinusoidal and disturbances and the delay-free transformation. First, based on the periodic characteristic of the sinusoidal disturbance, the sinusoidal disturbances are considered as the output of an exosystem. By proposing a discrete variable transformation, the discrete-time system with multiple input delays and the quadratic performance index are transformed into equivalent delay-free ones. Then, by constructing an augmented system that comprises the states of the exosystems of sinusoidal disturbances, the reference input, and the delay-free transformation systems, the original tracking problem is transformed into the optimal tracking problem for a delay-free system with respect to the simplified performance index. The optimal tracking control (OTC) law is obtained from Riccati and Stein equations. The existent and uniqueness of the optimal control law is proved. A reduced-order observer is constructed to solve the problem of physically realizable for the items of the reference input and sinusoidal disturbances. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approaches are validated by numerical examples.

한류가 한국 화장품 브랜드의 이미지에 미치는 영향

        한충민(Choong Min Han),진희(Xi Chen),이상엽(Sang Youp Rhee) 한국경영학회 2011 經營學硏究 Vol.40 No.4

This study is intended to empirically examine how the Korean wave in China affects Chinese consumers` images of Korean cosmetics brands. Specifically it is proposed that the Korean wave positively influences images of Korean cosmetics brands through favorable Korean images and favorable attitudes toward advertisements featuring Korean drama stars. Many Korean marketers, in order to captialize on goodwill built through popular Korea TV dramas and stars, have employed TV advertising featuring Korean TV stars. In other words, the Korean Wave in China may lead to Chinese favorable perceptions of Korean brands through Korean wave advertising. On the other hand, one can argue that the Korean wave can lead to Chinese favorable images toward Korean brands without Korean wave advertising. the Korean wave can lead to favorable images of Korea, which may influence Chinese perceptions of Korean brands throuhg country-of-origin effects. Therefore, we examine two possible paths on how the Korean wave may affect Chinese images of Korean cosmetic brands through Korean wave advertising and country-of-origin effects. The Korean wave was examined with Chinese affections toward Korean television dramas and drama stars. A structural model was proposed to test these propositions. Surveys were conducted with 181 young female Chinese in Peking. The respondents were mostly graduate students from two major universities in Peking. They were selected because firstly they were active users of cosmetics and secondly they were also believed to be reasonably familiar with Korean dramas and TV stars. We chose Korean stars and cosmetic brands which are quite well known to the respondents. They were Song Hye Kyo and Bae Yong Jun with Laneige and The Face Shop brands. We tested internal consistencies of the measures through Cronbach alpha coefficients and congeneric reliabilities, convergent and nomological validities through confirmatory factor analysis. We found that our measures were reasonably reliable and valid. In addition, Amos 6.0 was employed to estimate structural path coefficients. The overall goodness of fit indices for the model were reasonable good, which suggest a reasonable good fit for the proposed model. The findings suggest that Chinese women with strong affection toward Korean television dramas and stars tend to have favorable images of Korea and favorable attitudes toward advertisements featuring Korean stars. and finally positive perceptions of Korean cosmetics brands. In addition, we found that Korean drama stars showed greater influence in images of the brands that do Korean dramas. Interestingly we also found that the mediating role of Korean country image in brand attitudes were greater than that of attitudes toward advertisements features Korean drama stars. Finally, marketing implications were discussed. Our findings suggest that Korean marketers without employing Korean wave advertising featuring Korean stars may still benefit greatly from goodwill built from the Korean wave. In addition, since stars` influences are greater than TV dramas, marketers perhaps ought to concentrate more on Korean stars than the content of TV dramas in their marketing.
