In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

By the development of plant molecular biology these days which has been accomplishing much an attempt to get mutants. However, there have been haying many issues in lacking of recognition for transformants and the right of ownership of the gene. The breeding method of cell fusion without any problems can easily make new variety with an excellent character having plant itself. The purpose of this study was therefore to carry out to get trantsformants having sweeter taste and the original character of Citrus unshiu itself using PEG method of cell fusion. The yield of protoplasts per gram of leaf was 7 × 105 ~ 1 × 106/㎖ and callus cell was 1 × 106 / ㎖ . The first protoplast division and formation of micro-calli were observed 7 to 9 days and 30 to 40 days after incubation, respectively. To induce embryo from these calllus were inoculated solid medium containing 1.6% agarose and 5% sucrose. Green somatic embryo and plantlet were appeared from 1 to 2 months after plating and transfered to MT basal medium to stimulate rooting and shoot elongation. It was difficult to get normal plant directly through embryo of globular, heart and terpenoid state, and more effective method was directly to get plantlet from the globular embryo without heart and terpenoid state to control properly agar concentration.
Phytochrome이 보리잎 Protoplast의 팽윤에 미치는 영향

암조건에서 생육시킨 보리(Hordeum valgare)잎의 생장점 부근에서 분리한 Protoplast가 적색광 처리에 의해서 팽윤되었고 적외선광에 의해서는 적색광 효과과 소멸되었다. 이 사실은 Protoplast의 팽윤이 Phytochrome에 의해서 조절됨을 시사하는 것이나 Phytochrome의 작용기작을 알기 위해서는 다각적인 연구가 필요하다. 실험결과로 부터 적색광 처리시간은 2분 적색광 처리후 배양시간은 2시간이 적당함을 알았다. Protoplast 배양액의 Sorbitol 농도에 따른 크기변화는 농도가 낮을수록 커졌으며 0.4M 이하에서는 Protoplast가 파괴되었다. Light effect on the size of protoplasts isolated from etiolated barley leaves was studied. Red light irradiation caused a swelling of protoplasts while little change in size found under the dark condition. Photoreversibility by red light and far-red light was found in protoplast swelling, indicating the involvement of phytochrome. Action mechanism of phytochrome on protoplast swelling should be clarified in aspect of growth regulators and intermediates involved. Two minute irradiation time and two hour incubation after red light treatment were found sufficient to induce protoplast swelling. The protoplasts were swollen according to the sorbitol concentration of incubation media but destroyed below 0.4M-sorbitol concentration.

This study was conducted to understand health status by general characteristic, and to find out relationship between the general characteristics and rural elderly's health status. Health status was measured using SF-36(Medical Outcome Study Short From 36). The finding of this study were as follow; Mean scores of health status by sex were higher in male on physical function, social function and role limitation-emotion. The elderly educated more reported good health on physical function, role limitation-physical, vitality, bodily pain and general health than did the elderly educated less. The elderly who have disease reported bad health on social function, mental health and general health. Therefore we reviewed the evidence that sex, education and illness are associated with health status in the elderly, and that specific public health service that related such condition should be considered for the rural elderly.

High selective and sensitive thick film type methane gas sensors were fabricated and their sensing characteristics for various hydrocarbon gases were investigated. Raw material, SnO_(2)/Au, prepared by coprecipitation was even grain size. SEM, TEM, BET and XRD analyses were carried out for investigation of surface morphology and crystalline structure. The thick film devices using the above materials exhibited high sensitivity to methane gas at the operating temperature of 400°C. The sensitivity of SnO_(2)/Au+Pd thick film devices to methane gas was higher than that to the other hydrocarbon gases such as iso-butane and propane. The optimal adding amounts of Au and Pd were 1wt.% and 3wt.%, respectively. The sensitivity, S, is defined as {(R_(A)-R_(G))/R_(A)}><100, which R_(A) and R_(G) are resistance in air and that in the gas ambient, respectively.
음성인식을 위한 음성신호와 인식 인수의 상관 모델링에 대한 연구

Speech is one of the most natural communication tools for human beings. So everyone can use this tool easily without leaning. In the future, speech will be the new man-machine interface. However in order to use speech for the new man-machine interface, we must solve many of problems on the speech recognition. So that, this paper presents a speech modelling that reconstructs its signal by using of zero crossing interval and its energy, and makes research on the characteristics of the speech features - LPC, cepstrum coefficients, and LSF coefficients, for the speech recognition applications. Experiments indicate that the modelling speech signal shows better performance than non-modelling signal on the speaker independency, noise effects, and the stationarity of speech features in syllable interval. But also it indicates that the non-modelling signal takes better performance in the boundary characteristics between each syllables.

Kinetic studies of nucleophilic substitution reactions of phenacyl. benzeneslfonates(PBS) with N, N-dimethyl anilines(DMA) were conducted by conductometric method. Hammett and Broensted values were determined, in order to examine the transition state variations caused by changes in nucleophiles, substituents and indicated a relatively advanced bond-formation in the transition state. Application of potential energy surface(PES) and quantum mechanical(QM) models of transition state characterization lead us to conclude that the reaction proceeds via associative S_N2 mechanism. It was found that reactivity-selectivity principle(RSP) and Bell-Evans principle(BEP) held within the DMA series and hence constituted a good example of a thermodynamically controlled reaction series but are violated between two different reaction series with DMA and aniline.
