        2.9% 과산화수소를 함유한 부착형 미백제의 임상적 효능과 안정성에 관한 연구

        2.9%의 과산화수소를 함유한 시험용 부착형 미백제(Medison dental whitening strip, Samsung medical Co.,Anyang,Korea)를 실험군 피험자 23명, 시험용 미백제에서 과산화수소를 제외한 동일한 제재를 대조약으로 대조군 피험자 24명에게 매일 1시간 30분씩, 2주간 적용하여 임상적 효능과 안전성을 평가하였다. 미백 효과는 Shade Vision, Chroma Mete 및 Vitapan classical shade guide를 이용하여 색변화를 측정하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 실험군에서의 전체 치아의 색변화량(ΔE^(*))은 세 가지 측정법에서 모두 대조군에 비해 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였고 (p < 0.05). 쉽게 인지할 수 있는 정도였다. 2. 색변화는 색좌표 상에서 명도의 증가와 녹색조 및 청색조로의 변화에 의해 얻어졌다. 3. 치아별로는 어두운 견치의 색변화량이 가장 컸고, 측절치, 중절치 순으로 감소하였다. 4. 47명의 피험자 중 5명이 경도의 과민증을 경험하였으나 곧 완화되었다, 치은염증지수와 전기치수검사 결과 시험 전후에 차이가 없어 안전성을 확인하였다. This study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of an experimental bleaching strip (Medison dental whitening strip, Samsung medical Co., Anyang, Korea) containing 2.9% hydrogen peroxide. Twenty-three volunteers used the bleaching strips for one and a half hour daily for 2 weeks. As control group, the same strips in which hydrogen peroxide was not included were used by 24 volunteers with the same protocol. The shade chang (ΔE^(*), color differnce) of twelve anterior teeth was measured using Shade Vision (X-Rite Inc., S. W. Grandville, MI, USA), Chroma Meter (Minota Co., Ltd. Osaka, Japan) and Vitapan classical shade guide (Vita Zahnfabrik, Germany). The shade change of overall teeth in the experimental group was significantly greater than that in the control group (p < 0.05) and was easily perceivable. The change resulted from the increase of lightness (CIE L^(*) value) and the decrease of redness (CIE a^(*) value) and yellowness (CIE b^(*) value). The shade change of individual tooth was greatest in canine, can smallest in central incisor. The safety of the bleaching strip was also confirmed. 〔J Kor Acad Cons Dent 31(4):269-281, 2006〕

        Partial nucleotide sequencing and phylogenetic analyses of Newcastle disease virus and infectious bursal disease virus isolated in South Korea

        The present study was conducted to investigate the genetic profile of two prevalent avian pathogens in Korea namely, Newcastle disease virus (NDV) and infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV). Two farms located in Yeongi-gun, Chungnam were selected for this study. The two viruses were isolated from various organs (spleen, trachea, bursa of Fabricius) of deceased chickens that showed clinical symptoms of Newcastle Disease or Infectious bursal disease like swelling and congestion of the F bursa, facial edema, lacrimation, greenish yellow diarrhea as well as pathological signs like airsacculitis, haemorrhages in the intestines and so on. For analysis of NDV and IBDV, a 466 and 435 base pair fragments corresponding to the HN and VP2 regions which are highly conserved among related strains of NDV and IBDV, respectively, were amplified by RT-PCR and analyzed by sequencing. Comparison of the VP2 region showed a $99.3\%$ homology between the Korean IBDV isolate and the BJ836-attenuated vaccine strain. In contrast, the HN region of the Korean NDV isolate only has an 83 to $84\%$ homology with the vaccine strains LaSota, B1 and VGGA. Our findings reveal that the prevalent NDV strain in Korea is genetically different from the vaccine strains and may explain the recent outbreaks of Newcastle disease in the region.

        Droplet impinging phenomena frequently happens in many fields such as spray cooling, coating and inkjet technology and it became origin of single droplets impingement and spray process to modify. Droplet behavior after collision is relative to droplet velocity, droplet size and other parameters. Simulation of contact angle between wall and droplet in wetting phenomena, in particular, accounts for inertia force, viscous force, gravity and surface tension. While static contact angle which is material property has influent to analyze phase interaction between gas and liquid phases, dynamic contact angle is necessary to calculate for dynamic interaction. Dynamic contact angle has various values according to capillary numbers in term of droplet velocity, viscous force and surface tension. The aim of this study is that numerical result considering dynamic contact angle is compared with the numerical data when using static contact angle and experimental data. The numerical result predicted well the deformation of droplet spreading radius and height. The numerical results considering dynamic contact angle have smaller spreading radius and higher height than the data considering static contact angle. Furthermore, the numerical result shows good agreement with experimental data in spreading diameter, height and contact angle change as time elapsed.

        중년여성들의 12주간 Circuit Training이 최대산소섭취량과 혈중지질에 미치는 효과

        The study, by preventing diseases through health care and aging of older women conducting circuit training is aimed at establishing anti-aging system based on newly emerging demand by the social health care costs and aging and carrying out comparison, analysis about effect on the maximum oxygen intake and blood lipid after circuit training program for 12 weeks. Statistical analysis method by Window ver. SPSS 22.0 program used Two-way repeated ANOVA. statistical level of the results was established with .05. First, the difference verification of maximum oxygen consumption in group appears to be remarkably effective interaction(p<.01). Second, blood lipid in HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, neutral fat of total cholesterol between the period and the group appeared. to be remarkably effective interaction comparison and analysis between groups appeared. to be a significant difference in neutral fat after experiment(p<.05, p<.01, p<.01, p<.001). Like the above results, circuit training is considered an effective exercise for older women both increase in maximum oxygen intake and improve blood lipid components Entering an aging society, with health care and aging disease care, circuit training is considered an positive exercise both social health care costs decrease and slow aging it is thought that anti-aging for 100 years old through sustainable exercise can do its role as a member of an aging society. Further study, if precise fitness and measurement related in anti-aging is presented in terms of a variety of visual with selection of a variety of subjects, the current healthy life in an aging society can be achieved and we can live happily with healthy life.

      • Current Practices toward Fertility Issues for Young Breast Cancer Patients: A Survey of the Korean Breast Cancer Society; The SMARTSHIP Study

        Purpose: This study aimed to investigate and analyze the current fertility-related practices for breast cancer patients; the results are intended to help improve the quality of life of young patients and survivors. Methods: This study collected voluntary responses to a questionnaire that was used to survey Korean breast cancer specialists. The questionnaire consisted of five categories: knowledge, practice behaviors regarding fertility preservation, barriers to discussing fertility preservation, attitude toward fertility issues, and demographics and medical background. Results: A total of 120 copies of the questionnaire were distributed; the response rate was 89%. The section of the questionnaire regarding knowledge indicated that most respondents had adequate fertility preservation knowledge for cancer patients. However, 13.1% of the respondents indicated that they thought pregnancy increased the cancer recurrence risk. Respondents’ knowledge and attitudes about fertility preservation were not correlated with actual practice. The absence of patient’s expressions (24.30%), high recurrence risk (27.10%), insufficient time in the clinic (21.50%), and hospital conditions such as no reproductive specialists or infertility clinic (16.82%), were considered major barriers to discussing fertility issues. Conclusion: Although more than 50% of the respondents thought that cancer treatment is more important than fertility preservation and it is complex and difficult, the Korean breast surgical oncologists were generally encouraging when discussing fertility issues with young breast cancer patients. Hence, breast clinicians should share with young patients the updated evidence regarding the feasibility and safety of pregnancy after cancer treatment and the available options so that the best decisions can be made.

        The contact angle is one of the significant parameters to simulate droplet spreading phenomena after impingement on the solid surface. It is usually assumed that contact angle is a material property and adapted in boundary condition to analyze the droplet spreading motion. However, in wetting phenomena, contact angle has various values according to contact line movement. In the present study, we analyze the droplet spreading and impingement motion considering dynamic contact angle function that is obtained from single droplet impingement and spreading experiment on the bare and flat surface for different Weber numbers. Fluent 6.3 is used for droplet simulation and Volume of Fluid (VOF), the most famous interface tracking method, is adapted for analysis of interface between liquid and gas phases. The numerical result considering dynamic contact angle is compared to the experimental data, numerical result using the Cubic Interpolated Pseudo-particle (CIP) method by Yabe, and numerical result considering static contact angle in terms of droplet deformation, spreading radius, spreading height at Weber numbers, 4.43 and 11.33, respectively. The study shows that numerical results agree well with the experimental data in maximum spreading radius and spreading height. Indeed, overall, the study shows increasing spreading radius and height as the Weber numbers increase.

        약사위원회 운영 현황조사 및 비교검토

        Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (PTC) is responsible for advisory and educational roles about the policies for rational drug uses and pharmaceutical affairs in the hospital. To promote the drug appropriate and effective drug uses, PTC may give interventions to the medical and administrative staffs by the formulary restriction, therapeutical substitution policy, medical staff education and so on. The most of 3^(rd) Korean hospitals have PTC, but their performances had not been reviewed. This survey was aimed to compare the present functions of PTC in Korean hospitals, and also compare to the services of PTC in American hospital. Questionnaires related to services of PTC were made and sent to 63 hospitals which were reported to have PTC, and the data on the organization, activities, subcommittes and so on of PTC were collected. The response rate was 79.4%. Members of PTC consists of physicians, pharmacists and other members. PTCmeeting was an average of four times per year and responsibilities of the v were to develop and manage formulary, drug use policy, monitoring of adverse drug reaction, drug use evaluation and so on. Almost of hospitals reported most important therapeutic efficacies in their hospital's formulary-system management process. While 10.4% of all hospitals reported PTC, drug use evaluation and 4% of those involved adverse drug reaction., ASHP national survey(2001) reported drug use evaluation 77.9%, adverse drug reaction 95.8%. PTC have traditionally evaluated new drug products on the basis on their safety, efficacy and pharmaceutical characteristics. It is increasingly important that PTC committees base their decisions on quality of life and usual pharmacoeconomic considerations. Currently this either dose not exist or performed by selected PTC. Future PTC will include the clinical outcomes information for various treatment alternatives and pharmacoeconomic data about new drug, which may be utilised by these committees in making their recommendations for formulary addition. And PTC will include the evaluation of clinical outcomes information for various treatment alternatives, CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement) for current therapeutic recommendations. For this, it is necessary that guidelines of PTC committees must be estabilished and informations derived from healthcare system utilised by other hospitals are exchanged.

        Carpinus turczaninowii extract modulates arterial inflammatory response: a potential therapeutic use for atherosclerosis

        BACKGOURND/OBJECTIVES: Vascular inflammation is an important feature in the atherosclerotic process. Recent studies report that leaves and branches of Carpinus turczaninowii (C. turczaninowii) have antioxidant capacity and exert anti-inflammatory effects. However, no study has reported the regulatory effect of C. turczaninowii extract on the arterial inflammatory response. This study therefore investigated modulation of the arterial inflammatory response after exposure to C. turczaninowii extract, using human aortic vascular smooth muscle cells (HAoSMCs). MATERIALS/METHODS: Scavenging activity of free radicals, total phenolic content (TPC), cell viability, mRNA expressions, and secreted levels of cytokines were measured in LPS-stimulated (10 ng/mL) HAoSMCs treated with the C. turczaninowii extract. RESULTS: C. turczaninowii extract contains high amounts of TPC ($225.6{\pm}21.0mg$ of gallic acid equivalents/g of the extract), as well as exerts time-and dose-dependent increases in strongly scavenged free radicals (average $14.8{\pm}1.97{\mu}g/mL$ $IC_{50}$ at 40 min). Cell viabilities after exposure to the extracts (1 and $10{\mu}g/mL$) were similar to the viability of non-treated cells. Cytokine mRNA expressions were significantly suppressed by the extracts (1 and $10{\mu}g/mL$) at 6 hours (h) after exposure. Interleukin-6 secretion was dose-dependently suppressed 2 h after incubation with the extract, at $1-10{\mu}g/mL$ in non-stimulated cells, and at 5 and $10{\mu}g/mL$ in LPS-stimulated cells. Similar patterns were also observed at 24 h after incubation with the extract (at $1-10{\mu}g/mL$ in non-stimulated cells, and at $10{\mu}g/mL$ in the LPS-stimulated cells). Soluble intracellular vascular adhesion molecules (sICAM-1) secreted from non-stimulated cells and LPS-stimulated cells were similarly suppressed in a dose-dependent manner after 24 h exposure to the extracts, but not after 2 h. In addition, sICAM-1 concentration after 24 h treatment was positively related to IL-6 levels after 2 h and 24 h exposure (r = 0.418, P = 0.003, and r = 0.524, P < 0.001, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that C. turczaninowii modulates the arterial inflammatory response, and indicates the potential to be applied as a therapeutic use for atherosclerosis.
