        Derivation of reasonable design rainfall was attempted by comparative analysis of design rainfall derived by frequency analysis of Type I extremal distribution and probability plotting technique for annual maximum 1-day, 1-hour and 10-minute rainfalls observed at Cheong Ju. The results were analyzed and summarized as follows : 1.Basic statistics were calculated for the analysis of Type I extremal distribution with annual maximum 1-day, 1-hour and 10-minute rainfalls at Cheong Ju. 2.Necessary parameters were derived by frequency analysis of Type I extremal distribution for annual maximum 1-day, 1-hour and 10-minute rainfalls at Cheong Ju. 3.Design annual maximum 1-day, 1-hour and 10-minute rainfalls in mm were derived by frequency analysis of Type I extremal distribution and probability plotting technique respectively at Cheong Ju. 4.Design annual maximum 1-hour and 10-minute rainfalls were derived by frequency analysis of Type I extremal distribution and probability plotting technique are shown to be much closer to the observed data but design annual maximum 1-day rainfall is not to be closer to the observed data. 5.Design annual maximum rainfalls following the duration derived by Type I extremal distribution are seemed to be more reasonable than those of probability plotting technique owing to the difference of individual eyefitting.

      • FRP Rope의 부착특성에 관한 실험적 연구

        Bond strength of fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) Rope was experimentally investigated in this study and compared to that of steel rebars. A total of 20 pullout specimens and 5 concrete beams with four type of FRP Ropes and two type of steel rebars, respectively, were tested. The key parameters are the diameter, outer surface of FRP Rope and concrete strength. Two nominal diameters of FRP Rope and steel rebars, namely, 10 and 16mm and one embedment length, 25cm were used. Results of the tests indicated that the applied tensile load approached the tensile strength of rebars and the FRP Ropes showed lower bond strength values compared to steel rebars. The bond strength was calculated according to the relevant ACI Code requirements for steel rebars in concrete.

      • 年流出量의 模擬發生에 관한 硏究

        This study was conducted to get best fitting frequency distribution for the annual runoff and to simulate long aeries of annual flows by single-season first order Markov Model with comparison of statistical parameters which were derived from observed and synthetic flows at three watersheds in the Yeong San river basin. The results summarized through this study are as follows. 1.Hydrologic persistence for three watersheds were acknowledged by the correlogram analysis. 2.Normal distribution of the annual runoff for the applied watersheds was confirmed as the best by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. 3.Statistical parameters were calculated from synthetic flows simulated by normal distribution. It was confirmed that those are very similar to statistical parameters of observed data. 4.Hydrologic persistence between observed flows and synthetic flows simulated was confirmed by the correlogram analysis. 5.It is to be desired that generation technique of synthetic flow in this study would be compared with other simulation techniques for the objective time series.

      • 이동형 생체계측을 위한 임베디드 컴퓨팅

        연구목적: 초소형 정밀 기계 기술로 제작된 2차원 가속도 센서와 916 MH2 단거리 고주파 데이터 통신 기술을 응용하여 인체의 운동상태를 자동으로 감지하고 분류하는 기법을 제안 하고자 하였다. 재료 및 방법: 인체의 신호를 획득하기 위하여 미국 버클리대에서 제작한 무선 센서를 등 산용 조끼의 전면상단에 부착해서, 대상자의 흉골 부위에 위치하도록 하고, 앉은 상태에서 일어서거나 눕거나 하는 동작 및 그 역동작이 일어날 때, 가속도 센서에서 감지되는 4가지 종류의 파형 현화에 해당되는 데이터를 무선센서 네트웍을 통해 획득하였다. 결과: 획득한 신호를 주성분분석(Principal Component Analysis)과 지원벡터머신(Support Vector Machine)을 사용하여, 2차주성분까지를 도표화하고 클러스터링 함으로써, 4개의 영역으로 분할하는 것이 가능함을 말 수 있었다 결론: 소형 센서들이 작동되는 임베디드 컴퓨팅 환경에서 일상생활 중에 발생하는 인체의 4가지 동작을 자동으로 감지하고 분류하는 것이 가능함을 보였다. Purpose: New monitoring and classifying method of human motion contort was pro- posed by using 2-axial MEMS accelerometer and 916 MHz short-range data communica-tion technology. Materials and Methods: The wireless sensor of MICA mote was attached to a woman mountain vest and located close to the subject's sternum. During four types of sub-ject's motion, that is, sit-to-stand, stand-to-sit, sit-to-tying, and tying-to-sit, waveform changes of the accelerometer data were acquired by wireless sensor network. Results: The acquired signal was analyzed by Principal Component Analysis(PCA) and Support Vector Machine(SVM) technique. By clustering the first and second principal components, four regions corresponding to the four types of motion, were clearly segment-ed. Conclusion: Human motion context during daily life could be monitored and classified automatically by using small sensors in embedded computing environment

        Long-Term Outcome of Unilateral Acoustic Neuromas With or Without Hearing Loss: Over 10 Years and Beyond After Gamma Knife Radiosurgery

        Background: Since the long-term outcomes of 162 patients who underwent gamma knife radiosurgery (GKS) as an initial or adjuvant treatment for acoustic neuromas (ANs) with unilateral hearing loss were first reported in 1998, there has been no report of a comprehensive analysis of what has changed in GKS practice. Methods: We performed a retrospective study of the long-term outcomes of 106 patients with unilateral sporadic ANs who underwent GKS as an initial treatment. The mean patient age was 50 years, and the mean initial tumor volume was 3.68 cm3 (range, 0.10–23.30 cm3 ). The median marginal tumor dose was 12.5 Gy (range, 8.0–15.0 Gy) and the median follow-up duration was 153 months (range, 120–216 months). Results: The tumor volume increased in 11 patients (10.4%), remained stationary in 27 (25.5%), and decreased in 68 patients (64.2%). The actuarial 3, 5, 10, and 15-year tumor control rates were 95.3 ± 2.1%, 94.3 ± 2.2%, 87.7 ± 3.2%, and 86.6 ± 3.3%, respectively. The 10-year actuarial tumor control rate was significantly lower in the patients with tumor volumes of ≥ 8 cm3 (P = 0.010). The rate of maintaining the same Gardner-Robertson scale grade was 28.6%, and that of serviceable hearing was 46.4%. The rates of newly developed facial and trigeminal neuropathy were 2.8% and 4.7%, respectively. The patients who received marginal doses of less than 12 Gy revealed higher tumor control failure rates (P = 0.129) and newly occurred facial or trigeminal neuropathy rates (P = 0.040 and 0.313, respectively). Conclusion: GKS as an initial treatment for ANs could be helpful in terms of tumor control, the preservation of serviceable hearing, and the prevention of cranial neuropathy. It is recommended to perform GKS as soon as possible not only for tumor control in unilateral ANs with hearing loss but also for hearing preservation in those without hearing loss.

      • A case of adult Gaucher disease improved with the enzyme replacement therapy

        Gaucher disease is an autosomal recessive, lysosomal storage disease caused by the deficiency of glucosylceramidase. Deficiency of this enzyme results in accumulation of glucoceramide in the macrophage and leads to hepatosplenomegaly, pancytopenia, bone damage and sometimes can be fatal. It is usually diagnosed in the first or second decade of life with the appearance of bone pain, splenomegaly and thrombocytopenia. There are several reports of Korean pediatric patient’s case with Gaucher disease instead ofrare adult patient. We report the case of a-40-years old man diagnosed Gaucher disease and successfully improved with the enzyme replacement therapy. A-40-years old man visited hospital with leukopenia and thrombocytopenia. On abdominal CT scan, his spleen was huge and mild hepatomegaly was shown. Initial laboratory test was perfomed including enzyme test, angiotensin-converting enzyme level was high. On bone marrow aspiration examination, there were no hematologic malignancies, just only few gaucher cellswith coarse cytoplasm and eccentric nucleus are found. Also, some collections of large cells with fibrillary cytoplasm were shown on bone marrow biopsy specimen, that suggests Gaucher disease. And he was performed hip MRI because of hip pain, there were marrow edema involving right SI joint. The patient received the enzyme replacement therapy with active enzyme using Cerezyme(imiglucerase), a recombinant form of glucosylceramidase. On enzyme replacement therapy, angiotensin-converting enzyme level was normalized, and spleen size was much decreased. His hip pain was improved with no other abnormal signal intensity on hip MRI. Gaucher disease should be considered in the differential diagnosis of adult patients with unexplained splenomegaly and bicytopenia. The early diagnosis of Gaucher disease would lead to safe and effective treatment with enzyme replacement, which can decrease morbidity.

      • Activation of Defense Responses in Chinese Cabbage by a Nonhost Pathogen, Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato

        Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato (Pst) causes a bacterial speck disease in tomato and Arabidopsis. In Chinese cabbage, in which host-pathogen interactions are not well understood, Pst does not cause disease but rather elicits a hypersensitive response. Pst induces localized cell death and $H_2O_2$ accumulation, a typical hypersensitive response, in infiltrated cabbage leaves. Pre-inoculation with Pst was found to induce resistance to Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora, a pathogen that causes soft rot disease in Chinese cabbage. An examination of the expression profiles of 12 previously identified Pst-inducible genes revealed that the majority of these genes were activated by salicylic acid or BTH; however, expressions of the genes encoding PR4 and a class IV chitinase were induced by ethephon, an ethylene-releasing compound, but not by salicylic acid, BTH, or methyl jasmonate. This implies that Pst activates both salicylate-dependent and salicylate-independent defense responses in Chinese cabbage.
