      • The fate of spinal schwannomas following subtotal resection: a retrospective multicenter study by the Korea spinal oncology research group.

        <P>The fate of residual spinal schwannomas needs to be estimated in order to plan further management after subtotal removal. Our aim was to evaluate the growth rate of residual spinal schwannomas and compare results in regrowth and no regrowth groups by using data collected from the Korea Spinal Oncology Research Group database. From January 1989 to August 2011, 27 patients with residual spinal schwannomas were selected. Patients with at least two follow-up magnetic resonance image (MRI) studies after subtotal resection were included. The mean period of MRI follow-up was 62.4 months. A tumor size increase of over 2 mm in the maximal diameter was considered indicative of regrowth. Age, sex, size at initial diagnosis, postoperative tumor size, and Ki-67 labeling index were compared between regrowth and no regrowth groups. Eight residual schwannomas regrew (29.6 %), and 19 (70.4 %) did not regrow. Average growth rate of the regrowing tumors was 1.0 4.4 mm/year. The mean percentage increase in tumor size during follow-up was 10.0 28.8 %. The Ki-67 labeling indices were significantly different between regrowth and no regrowth groups (P = 0.014). Two patients underwent a revision operation for significant tumor regrowth. Nineteen cases (70.4 %) among 27 residual spinal schwannomas did not regrow significantly, but further surgical treatments were necessary in 2 patients due to significant regrowth. The Ki-67 labeling index was higher in the regrowth group. Earlier follow-up MRI is recommended for patients whose tumors have higher Ki-67.</P>

        Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

        In order to adduce the cytogenic effect of Benz(a)anthracene(B(a)A) in pregnant mice through placental barrier to fetus, 125㎎/㎏, 250㎎/㎏, 500㎎/㎏, of B(a)A were administrated to groups of mice 16th pregnancy day About 20 hrs later, freauency of micronuclei in polychromatophilic normoblasts of liver tissues extracted from fetus was measured At the same time, 200 ㎎/㎏ and 400 ㎎/㎏ of Benzo(a) pyrene(B(a)P) were administered with same procedure to compare the frequencies between in cases of B(a)A and B(a)P administration. Especially incase of B(a)A administration, frequencies of their appearances in bone marrows of mother mice and livers of fetuses were compared. On the other hand, pathological changes of fetus liver caused by B(a)A and B(a)P in mothers were observed through microscopic examination in order to reconfirm and compare their transplacental effects. As the results, cytogenic toxicity for feture caused of B(a)A was confirmed. It means that some amount of B(a)A which was administered to pregnant mice could be transmitted to fetus through placental barriers Mutagenicity caused of B(a)A was higher in fetus than mother mouse. The cytogenic toxicity caused of B(a)A both for mother mouse and fetus was lower than that of B(a)p.

        Garlic extract using super-critical carbon dioxide is influenced by temperature and pressure, and The optimum condition must make under super-critical state. We can know the defects in process of super-critical extration, It can indicate the drop of product rate, energy loss, equipment expense etcs. According to the result of this experiment, we can know that the microbe of S. aureus and E. coli has disappeared in the incubation time more than 12 hours and in concentration more than 800ppm.

        흰쥐 삼차신경 척수감각핵 미측소핵 세포의 흥분성 시냅스 전도에 대한 nociceptin의 효과

        The caudal subnuleus of the spinal trigeminal nucleus(medullary dorsal horn;MDH)is implicated in the processing of nociceptive information in the orofacial region. In the present study, whole cell patch clamp recordings were carried out on MDH neurons in brainstem slic of neonatal rats to investigate the characteristics of spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents(sEPSCs) and the roles of nocieptin/orphanin FQ on excitatory synaptic transmission. In the presence of atrychnine(1uM) and bicuculline(20uM), spontaneous inward currents at -70㎷ were observed. the baseline frequency, amplitude and decay time constant of sEPSCs were 2.0±0.5㎐,23.0±1.8㎀, 3.8±0.2㎳, repectively. sEPSCs were mediated by non-NMDA and NMDA receptors. The specific AMPA receptor antagonist GYKI-52466(50uM)completely blocked the non-NMDA mediated sEPSCs, indicating that they are mediated by an AMPA-preferring receptor. Perfusion of the opioid orphan receptor(ORL₁)agonist nociceptin(3uM)reduced the frequency of sEPSCs and miniature EPSCs(mEPSCs). The effects of nociceptin were blocked by the selective ORL₁receptor antagonist〔Nphe'〕nociceptin(1-13)NH_2(3uM)and were not affected by the non-specific opioid receptor antagonist naloxone(10uM). To investigate the specificity of this synaptic inhibition, we selectively astivated the nociceptive C fibers with capsaicin, which induced a strong increase in the frequency of sEPSCs. In the presence of nociceptin, the response to capsaicin was diminished. In concilsion, these results suggest that nociceptin inhibits excitatory synaptic transmission in the MDH by acting on presynaptic ORL₁receptors.

        The Kinetics velocity for synthesis reaction of vanillylidene derivatives has been measured by ultra-violet ray spectrophotometer in 20wt% dioxane-H_(2)O at 25 C. It was measured the reaction rate constant of vanillylidene derivatives that can be applied widely following to PH-change at 25 C. Final products that hydrolyzed the vanillylidene certified in vanillin and aniline derivative, and the effect of substitution radical that has affected on synthesis reaction was largely promoted to reaction rate by electron attrating group in acidity and electron donoring group in basic. From the results of rate equation to synthesis reaction, substituent radical effect and final products, It has certified the reaction mechanism of vanillylidene derivatives.

        Indole derivative is obtained by 1-benzoyl-2methyl indole 3-acetic acid. It is aldo synthesized from N¹-benzoyl phenylhydrazine hydrochloride and levulinic acid. It's reaction mechanism is cyclization of 1,2,3-tri substitution of N¹-benzoyl phenylhydrazine hydrochloride and levulinic acid. In this reaction, er can know that it does not form at all less than 50˚C but reacts smoothly at 75˚C and obtains high yield.

      • 저온처리한 Georgia lily의 촉성재배에 관한 연구

        Bulbs of the Georgia lily were planted and cooled under natural conditions in a cold frame. Other bulbs were precooled at 4-8℃. These bulbs were transplanted in a vinyl house varying the planting periods. Some of these bulbs were exposed to incandescent lights for experimental purposes. The bloom date, bloom rate, number of flowers, stem length, and number of leaves were recorded to study the effects influenced by the bulb weights and transplanting periods. Plant growth during normal growing season was also recorded. The results were as follows. 1. Naturally cooled Georgia lilies transplanted on Dec. 5 and Dec. 30 were among the first to bloom. Therefore, the Georgia lily may be planted in December, after chrysanthemums and other plants harvesteod from the same vinyl house. 2. The bloom rate and number of flowers increased in large bulbs. Stem lenghts were elongated considerably when the Georgia lily was transplanted earlier and larger bulbs were used. 15g-bulbs transplanted on Dec. 30 were 93.8% in bloom rate with 1.5 flowers and 54.5㎝ in stem lengths. 3. The leaves were more numerous when larger bulbs were planted and not influenced by the transplanting periods. 4. From the above results, it can be determined that 15g-bulbs of Georgia lily showed considerable growth effect when cooled naturally and growth is induced in a vinyl house. Therefore, forcing 15g-bulbs for cultivation is possible. 5. The weight of developed new bulbs was increased when transplanted earlier. 6. Precooling and lighting affected the earlier blooms, and the stem lengths were increased by lighting. 7. Internode was noticeably elongated as soon as the leaves emerged without rosetting of foliage on the precooled Georgia lily.
