It is argued that one key reason behind Korea's stalling economic growth is the lack of sufficient investments in facilities, especially by the chaebol companies. The government charges the chaebols with under-investing and has put considerable pressure on them to invest more aggressively. Since one main pathological feature of the chaebols has been their propensity to over-invest, this paper examines whether there has been a change in chaebol behavior. Evidence shows that chaebols are not under-investing in facilities. The chaebols are engaging in investments that make business sense, even though these levels of investment may fall short of what the government would like to see. By misreading the true situation, the government may be initializing a complex power game with the chaebol, which will prove to be counter-productive.
Fuzzy Ownership : A Theory of Corporate Governance and Evidence from Korea

This paper presents a model with "fuzzy ownership rights" for explaining corporate governance. The purpose of this model is to capture the theoretical underpinnings of corporate governance in real-world situations, which emphasize social, economic and cultural networks. The existence of strong fuzzy ownership rights affects corporate governance in many important ways, beginning with the firm being forced to go beyond solving the shareholder interest maximization problem: instead, the firm attempts to solve more complex problem, which is to maximize the interests of other fuzzy ownership right-holders as well. In the wake of the Asian financial crisis in 1997, many countries in Asia were encouraged to adopt western-style corporate governance reforms. Although systemic changes are being adopted, with particular emphasis placed on strengthening minority shareholders' legal rights, these reforms fail to remove fuzzy ownership rights. This paper predicts that the reform effort will be ineffectual since it leaves the behavior of the firm and its corporate governance structure fundamentally unchanged. This paper challenges the proposition that globally disparate corporate governance systems in the long run will converge to the Anglo-Saxon shareholder primacy model. Fuzzy ownership rights holders can be expected to protect and refuse to surrender their rights when targeted by corporate reform efforts. The vested interests, which are personal to the olders because they arise from the holder's position in the economy or in relation to the firm, present a high barrier to convergence toward a global standard based on the shareholder primacy model.
MicroRNA-23a: A Novel Serum Based Diagnostic Biomarker for Lung Adenocarcinoma

Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have demonstrated their potential as biomarkers for lung cancer diagnosis. In recent years, miRNAs have been found in body fluids such as serum, plasma, urine and saliva. Circulating miRNAs are highly stable and resistant to RNase activity along with, extreme pH and temperatures in serum and plasma. In this study, we investigated serum miRNA profiles that can be used as a diagnostic biomarker of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods: We compared the expression profile of miRNAs in the plasma of patients diagnosed with lung cancer using an miRNA microarray. The data from this assay were validated by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). Results: Six miRNAs were overexpressed and three miRNAs were underexpressed in both tissue and serum from squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) patients. Sixteen miRNAs were overexpressed and twenty two miRNAs were underexpressed in both tissue and serum from adenocarcinoma (AC) patients. Of the four miRNAs chosen for qRT-PCR analysis, the expression of miR-23a was consistent with microarray results from AC patients. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were done and revealed that the level of serum miR-23a was a potential marker for discriminating AC patients from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. Conclusion: Although a small number of patients were examined, the results from our study suggest that serum miR-23a can be used in the diagnosis of AC.

This study was performed to evaluate the effect of oriental medical treatment on aged female obese patient. Methods : We experienced an aged female obese patient. We applied herbal medication(Choweseuncheng-tang), electrolipolysis, auricular acupuncture to her from 26th, March. 2007 to 25th, May. 2007. And we examined the changes of her weight, body composition, body size, skin resistance variability, visual analogue scale of knee pain. Results : 1. Her weight decreased from 73.5kg to 71.1kg and body mass index(BMI) decreased from 29.46kg/m2 to 28.11kg/m2. 2. Body fat mass(BFM) decreased from 25.7kg to 21.6kg but body muscle mass(BMM) increased from 45.1kg to 46.7kg. 3. Waist-hip ratio(WHR) decreased from 0.96 to 0.92. 4. Basal metabolic rate(BMR) increased from 1,273kcal to 1,314kcal. 5. The circumference of upper extremity decreased 1.03cm and lower extremity decreased 1.30cm but the circumference of the muscle of upper extremity increased 0.41cm and lower extremity increased 0.63cm. 6. The circumference of chest and hip are decreased. In addition to the circumference and fat of abdomen are decreased. 7. The visual analogue scale of knee pain is improved. Conclusions : According to above results, oriental medical treatment could be used safety to aged obese patients without loss of fat free mass. The study is more required to aged obese patient from now on.
당귀수산을 처방받은 교통사고환자의 피부저항변이도 특성에 관한 연구

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to know the characteristics of Skin Resistance Variability(SRV) in the traffic accident patients prescribed Dangkisoo-san(Dangguixu-san). Methods : 65 traffic accident patients were selected from those who took the Skin Resistance Variability(SRV) test in Oriental Medical Hospital of Sang-Ji University from March 2007 to January 2008. The traffic accident patients were prescribed Dangkisoo-san(Dangguixu-san). Mean values of factor AA on skin resistance variability of the traffic accident patients were analyzed. Results and Conclusions : The mean values of electrodermal activity of preexamination was higher than those of postexamination in all areas except 3 area in 2nd measurement. In most cases, the gap of electrodermal activity between preexamination and postexamination within the female group was higher than those of the male group. In most cases, the gap of electrodermal activity between preexamination and postexamination within the more than 21 days group was higher than those of the 20days and less group. In most cases, the gap of electrodermal activity between preexamination and postexamination within the 36 years old group was higher than those of the 35years old and less group. Dangkisoo-san(Dangguixu-san) will be more effective for acute and strong traffic accident patients than chronic and weak traffic accident patients. So, further studies will be needed.
성인기에 재발한 복합성 운동 틱 장애에서 Aripiprazole로 치료한 1예

Tic disorder is a childhood-onset neuropsychiatric disorder that is characterized by both motor or phonic tics. Two thirds of children with tic disorder experience reduction or complete resolution of tic symptoms duhng adolescence. Doluble-blind trial have demonstrated that the typical antipsychotics are better than placebo. Recently, atypical antipsychotics have been used successfully. A 37 - year - old man, was diagnosed with chronic motor tic disorder during childhood. Over the last 27 years, his tic symptoms have improved. At the age of thirty-seven, he abruptly developed complex motor and vocal tics. The mMotor tics included shoulder shrugging, and neck and leg movement. The severity of tics was assessed at baseline using the Yale global tics everity sca1e(YGTSS) before initiating treatment. Global severity score of YGTSS at baseline was 58. He was initially prescribed with aripiprazole 5mg /day. After two days, his global severity score of YGTSS decreased to 20, and. this improvement was main-tained for eight weeks. Aripiprazole, a newer atypical antipsychotic with a unique pharmacodynamic profile, appears to be efficacious in treatment of tic disorder.

Research activities are being carried out through many collaborative writing activities in various disciplines. However, there is minor research on collaborative research in the field of architecture, although meaningful results can be drawn in many ways. Therefore, in this study, we used technology statistics and social network analysis (SNA) to investigate cooperative relationship for collaborative research analysis from the Architectural planning committee of the Korean Institute of Architects in the past ten years (2006 ~ 2015) of development characteristic, systematics of co-author networks and centrality. As a result of the study, the number of co - authorship was two, the number of independent authors was increasing, and the office workers" writing activities were daunted. The probability of becoming a core researcher with many numbers of papers was 44.00%, becoming a connected researcher was 70.59%, becoming an approximate researcher was 32.87%, and the becoming an intermediation researcher was 60.3%. It is important the core researchers number of papers, but moreover important to have a collaborative relationship with other researchers. In addition, researchers play different roles depending on the centrality of each centrality analysis result, and if the collaborative research network through collaborations is expanded, it will have a positive effect on the results of the architectural field.
