The effects of dried green tea leaf powders on serum lipid concentrations were evaluated in rats. Sixty male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 100±10g were divided into six groups and fed high fat diets for six weeks. Experimental groups were administered with following diets: Normal fat diet and normal and high fat diets with 1% dried green tea leaf powders. Tissue weights of live, lung, stomach, heart, kidney and spleen of high fat diet exposed rats were reduced by dried green tea leaf powders groups. The concentrations of serum triglyceride in rats fed the dried green tea leaf powers were lower than those in other groups. The concentrations of total cholesterol in green tea leaf powders the were lower powders green tea were significantly higher than those of other groups. The levels of LDL-cholesterol in serum of the dried green tea leaf powders groups were tended to be lower than those of other groups. GPT and GPT were decreased in dried green tea leaf powders groups and than in the high fat groups. LDHase was lower in the dried green tea leaf powders groups than in the high fat group. These results suggest that dried leaf powders green tea groups may reduce elevated levels of serum lipid concentrations in rats fed high fat diets.

An eleven year old castrated male Maltese was presented to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. In physical examination, approximately 0.5 cm round mass was observed on tail base. This small elevated mass has also shown alopecic and firm configuration. It was differentially diagnosed as sebaceous adenoma and hyperplasia by fine needle aspiration. After surgical removal, the sample was diagnosed as sebaceous hyperplasia by histopathological examination. It has not yet shown any signs of recurrence and prognosis has teen good.
초등학교 급식소에서의 HACCP 적용을 위한 계절별 환경미생물학적 위해분석

Foodservice at elementary schools has been povided nation-wide. It is predictable that foodborne diseases would increase continuously. Formation of a counterplan is urgently needed. This study was designed to identify the stage which contains the critical control points (CCPs) for the microbiological management of HACCP(Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) at the foodservice provided at elementary schools. Foodservice places at four elementary schools in Seoul were sampled and the overall hygiene of cooking, utensils and equipment, employees, and environment by season were examined. The results showed that the number of bacteria in overall samples was increased and that E. coli, Salmonella and Staphylococcus by biochemical test emerged in more diverse samples in summer than in spring. Particularly, the number of aerial bacteria in summer was three-fold greater than that in either spring or winter. E. coli 0157 was not detected, although Salmonella was identified by PCR analysis in the meat Knives, chopping boards, waste bins and meat dish at elementary school foodservice. According to this data, cross-contamination should be managed in the stage of mixing up the ingredients with improper equipments and insanitary treatments. Thus, the establishment of SSOP (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) at elementary school foodservice is stringently required, along with sanitation education for workers and employees as CCPs.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are an important public health issue in Korea and many important questions remain to be addressed with respect to assessing exposure to these compounds. Because they are ubiquitous and highly volatile, special techniques must be applied in their analytic determination. Valid personal exposure assessment methods are needed to evaluate exposure frequency, duration and intensity, as well as their relationship to personal exposure characteristics. Biological monitoring is also important since it may contribute significantly in risk assessment by allowing the estimation of effective absorbed doses. This study was onducted to establish the environmental measurement, personal dosimetry and biological monitoring methods for VOCs. These methods are needed to compare blood, urinary and exhalation breath VOC levels and to provide tools for risk assessment of VOC exposure. Passive monitors (badge type) and a active samplers (trap) for the VOCs collection were used for air sampling. Methods development included determining the minimum detectable amounts of VOCs in each media, as well as evaluating collection methods and developing analytical procedures. Method reliability was assessed by determining breakthrough volumes and comparing results between laboratories and with other methods. A total capacity of trap used in this study was 60ℓ. Although variable by compound, the average breakthrough was 20%. Also, there was no loss of compounds in trap even if keep for 45 day in -70℃. The recovery of active and passive methods was 69%~126% and method detection limit was 0.24㎍/trap and 0.07㎍/badge. There was no statistical difference (P>0.05) between active and passive methods.

Many cities and provinces are rapidly depleting landfill spaces. As the result, some municities have adopted to Incinerate their municipal solid waste(MSW). The motive behind the choice is that incineration significantly reduces the volume of solid waste in need of disposal, destroys the harmful organic compounds that are present in MSW, and provides an attractive source of alternative energy. Conclusively, the generation of MSW ash is expected to increse in the furture. However, disposing the MSW ash in landfills may not always be an environmentally or an economically feasible solution. This paper addresses the various issues associated with MSW ash and its possible use in construction applications.

A 4 years old male poodle dog with gastro-intestinal distress was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. The patient was presented with history of vomiting, hemorrhagic diarrhea and inappetence. Laboratory evaluation revealed that WBC (23.8 x 10^(3)/㎕). BUN (87.9 ㎎/㎗), creatinine (7.3 ㎎/㎗) and phosphate (9.6 ㎎/㎗) was elevated, and proteinuria, hematuria and bilirubinuria were detected on urinalysis. Increased renal cortical echogenicity and parenchymal calcification of kidney were observed by ultrasonography. Based on the findings of history, clinical signs, laboratory assessment and ultrasonography, it was diagnosed as acute renal failure. The present patient showed favorable therapeutic response by fluid therapy. diuretics, peritoneal dialysis and blood transfusion.

Intracellular high energy phosphorus metabolism can be assessed noninvasively and dynamically by in vivo ^31P NMRS of skeletal muscle have shown various applications of this technique in evaluating the pathophysiology of diseased or normal muscles. High energy phosphate metavolsim in the human skeletal muscle was studies in the work. ^31P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy allowed the evaluate of the lactic acid and aerobic energy system in the intracellular skeletal muscle by energy concentration of ^31P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy allowed the evaluate of the lactic acid and aerobic energy system in the intracellular skeletal muscle by energy concentration of ^31P metabolite, (Pi), (PCr), (ATP). The ratio of Pi/PCr the spectra measured from normal volanteers and elite athleties indicated a signetifcant difference between the two group for each exercise protocal. It was generally ovserved that the all out time of normal volunteers in shorter that that of elite athletes, and the ration of Pi/PCr is samller for elite athlets than for normal volunteers.
