      • 김치가 노화촉진쥐 간의 유리기 생성 및 항산화효소 활성에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 김치가 노화 억제에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위하여 AIN-76마우스 식이에 배추, 갓김치, 갓배추김치를 각 동결건조 김치를 5%씩 첨가하여 만든 후 김치식이를 노화촉진쥐인 SAMP8에게 1년간 섭취시키면서 간의 노화관련 특성인 유리기 농도와 항산화효소계의 효소활성 변화를 살펴 보았다. 노화촉진쥐 간의 총유리기, OH radical, H_2O_2 그리고 TBARS모두 가령에 따라 증가되었으며, 간에서 생성된 유리기 농도와 TBARS 농도는 대조군에 비해 김치섭취시 유의적으로 감소되었다(p<0.05). 그러나 생성된 유리기를 제거하기 위한 SOD활성은 오히려 김치섭취군에서 유의적으로 증가되었으며(p<0.05), catalase와 GSH-px, GSH/GSSG의 비율도 김치섭취군에서 유의적으로 증가하였다(p<0.05). 따라서 김치섭취는 노화에 따라 발생되는 간의 유리기 및 TBARS 생성은 억제시키면서, 이를 제거하는 항산화계 효소는 활성화시켜 노화를 억제한 것으로 생각된다. 김치종류 중에서는 배추김치보다 배추갓김치와 갓김치가 유리기 생성 억제 및 항산화 효소 활성을 더욱 증진시킨 것으로 관찰되어 이는 첨가된 갓의 항산화물질 때문인 것으로 생각된다. This study was performed to investigate the effect of kimchi intake on antiaging characteristics in the brain of senescence-accelerated mouse (SAM) in terms of free radical production and anti-oxidative enzymes. Two hundreds twenty SAM (20 mice) were divided into four groups and fed kimchi diet for 12 months. Experimental groups were kimchi free AIN-76 diet (control) group, Korean cabbage kimchi diet (KCK)group, 30% mustard leaf added Korean cabbage kimchi diet (MKCK) group, and mustard leaf kimchi diet (MLK) group. Concentrations of total free radical, OH radical and H_2O_2 of control group increased up to 123%, 262% and 174% of initial value (p<0.05) after one year. Increase in free radical production in kimchi groups due to aging was decreased by kimchi feeding. Among kimchi groups. MKCK and MLK groups showed greater inhibiting effect against free radical production than KCK. The concentration of TBARS in the bruin of control group also significantly increased up to 362% of initial value as aged (p<0.05) and production of TBARS in kimchi groups were decreased. When the activities of Cu, Zn-SOD, Mn-SOD, GSH-px and catalase of kimchi groups were compared to those of control at the same experimental period, anti-oxidative enzyme activities of kimchi groups were lower than those of control (p<0.05). But GSH/GSSG in kimchi groups were higher compared to control. In conclusion, decrease in free radical production and increase in anti-oxidative enzyme activities were observed from kimchi groups suggesting that kimchi might have important role on retarding aging. Among kimchi variety tested in this experiment, MKCK and MLK seem to have greater effect on inhibiting free radical production and increasing anti-oxidative enzyme activities than KCK. Further study is needed to find out the mechanism of kimchi on retarding aging.

      • 김치가 청장년 및 노인의 유리기 생성 및 산화억제에 미치는 영향

        This study was performed to investigate the effect of kimchi intake on free radical and oxidative substance production in young adults and the elderly. Daily kimchi intake by people in their twenties (n = 93, 20 to 29 years old) and over sixty-five (n = 143, over 65 years old) in M city were surveyed and blood was drawn to analyze the free radicals in their plasma. The average amount of kimchi intake by the subjects was 115.8 ± 91.7 g. The amount of kimchi intake of those in their twenties (106.1 ± 80.6 g) was significantly lower than that of those over sixty-five (125.5 ± 102.9 g, p < 0.05). Concentrations of total free radicals and OH radicals were 27 and 33% greater respectively, in those over sixty-five than in those in their twenties, indicating that more free radicals were produced by the older group. The concentration of GSH was not signiacantly different in the two groups, but that of GSSG in the over sixty-five age group was 53% greater than in the twenties group, which resulted in a 35% reduction in GSH/GSSG in the elderly group. TBARS concentration in the over sixty-five group was 26% greater than that of the twenties group. In order to see the effect of kimchi intake on free radical production, subjects in same age group were divided into two sub groups-the mean over and the mean under groups-according to the average amount of kimchi intake, which was 115.8 g. The total free radicals, the OH radicals, the GSH, the GSSG, and the GSH/GSSG in the twenties group were not significantly different in the two kimchi intake groups. However, those in the over sixty-five group were significantly different. The concentration of total free radicals and OH radicals of the mean over group were 21 and 26% lower respectively, than those of the mean ova. group (p < 0.05). The GSH and GSH/GSSG of the mean ova. groups were higher by 8 and 12%, respectively. The correlation coefficient between the kimchi intake and the total free radicals was -0.1862 (p < 0.05) and that for GSH/GSSG was 0.1861 (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the production of free radicals and oxidative substances increased with age, and kimchi seemed to retard this phenomena.

      • 김치가 노화촉진쥐 뇌의 유리기 생성 및 항산화효소 활성에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 김치가 노화와 직접적인 관련이 있는 유리기 생성 및 항산화 효소활성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위하여 배추김치, 배추갓김치 그리고 갓김치를 식이중량의 5% 첨가하여 실험식이를 제조하여 이를 노화촉진쥐인 SAMP8에게 1년간 섭취시켰다. 총유리기, OH radical, H_2O_2농도 그리고 TBARS 농도 모두 가령에 따라 증가하였으며, 김치섭취시 유의적으로 감소되었다(p<0.05), 김치군에 있어서 생성된 유리기를 제거하기 위해 항산화계 효소인 SOD, catalase, GSH-px 그리고 GSH/GSSG는 모든 김치군에서 유의적으로 증가 하였다(P<0.05). 따라서 김치섭취는 먼저 가령에 의해 생성되는 유리기의 생성은 억제시키면서, 둘째 이를 제거하기 위한 항산화계 효소 활성은 더욱 활성화시키므로써 항노화 기능을 발휘한다고 생각된다. 김치종류 중에서는 배추갓김치와 갓김치가 배추김치보다 유리기 생성을 억제하고, 항산화계 활성을 증진시킨 것으로 보아 이들의 항노화 효과가 클것으로 생각된다.       • 智異山 北面의 植物調査 : 第1報 木本植物 1. Woody Plants (Trees and Shrubs)

        This work was carried out from 1969 to 1974 to investigate the flowering plants and ferns in the northern side of the Mt. Jiri for the purpose of finding the change of vegatation. Author enumerated 343 kinds of woody plants which belong to 139 genera and 65 families but on investigation by Okamoto in 1935 there were 275 kinds of woody plants which belong to 109 genera and 54 families. Therefore, if it were compared with Okamoto's 40 years ago, 68 kinds of woody which belong to 30 genera and 11 families were increased but 5 kinds of them were unfounded. Some causes of the change of vegetation compared with Okamoto's were regarded as follows. 1. By reforestation for exchanging species: 20kinds 2. By planting of useful plants: 29 kinds 3. New species that Okamoto couldn't find: 19 kinds.

        This work was carried out from 1969 to 1975 to investigate the fIowering plants and ferns in the northern side of the Mt. Jiri for the purpose of finding the change of vegetation. Author enumerated 470 kinds of herbs which belong to 233 genera and 62 families of dicotyledones but on investigation by Okamoto in 1935 there were 468 kinds of herbs which be1ong to 228 genera and 61 families of dicotyledones. Therefor, if it were compared with Okamoto's 4O years ago, 23 kinds of herbs which belong to 9 genera and 1 family were increased but 21 kinds of them were unfounded.Some causes of the change of vegetation compared with Okamoto's were regarded as follows. 1. By planting of usefu1 plants (medicinal plants) ; 18 kinds. 2. New species that Okamoto couldn't find: 5 kinds 3. 23 kinds of Okamoto's were unfounded.

        항파상풍 톡소이드 주사후 항파상풍 항체 역가

        Objective : Tetanus decreased in prevalence since the systemic vaccination began in 1940s. Despite of the improvement in treatment like critical care with ventilatior or antibiotics, the mortality rate resides around 45%. Currently the tetanus prevention protocol recommends immunization in infancy and boosters every tenth years. Thereafter the immunization with toxoid only or toxoid plus immunoglobulin injections is recommended according to the type of injury. In most of ED in Korea, only tetanus immunoglobulin is given without any basis. Previously we proved the effect that passive immunization with the immunoglubulin 250 IU last long for only a month. At this time we measured the effect of the active immunization with toxoid and its effect was compared to the effect of the tetanus immunoglobulin to find out the logical tetanus prevention after an injury. Method: 20 healthy adult volunteers were injected with tetanus toxoid and their anti-tetanus antibody titers measured before the injection, 1 week and 4 weeks after the inection. No volunteers have taken any medication for chronic illness(e.g. hepatits, tuberculosis) or had an tetanus immunization or booster in the last 6 months. Antibody titers were measured by IMMUNOZYM??-TETANUS and t-test was performed on the results, Results: 1. Total 20 volunteers(12 males and 8 females) were participated. 2. Subjects` ages were 21 to 44 years old and there were no relevance to the antibody titer. 3. The antibody titers of before the anti-tetanus toxoid injection and 1 week, 4 weeks after the injection revealed significant difference and the antibody titers of the first and the forth week after the injection also showed a significant difference. Conclusion: Currently in Korea, the tetenus immunoglobulin 250 IU given alone as tetanus prevention was injected, but it did not elevate the anti-tetanus antibody titer for 4 weeks where as tetanus toxoid injected intramuscularly did significantly. Therefore, tetanus toxoid should be given on the dirty injuries with additional tetanus immunoglobulin injection to accomplish the correct method of tetanus, tetanus toxoid prevention.

        VDT작업별 정신사회적 스트레스와 근골격계 장애에 관한 연구

        It has been hypothesized that jobs that have both high psychological demands and low decision latitude("job strain") can lead to musculoskeletal disorder. The objective of this study was to test whether job strain was correlated with the presence of work-related musculoskeletal disorder, especially myofascial pain syndrome(MPS). Information on demographic factors, confounders such as household load and taking care of children or not, and scores for decision latitude, job demand, and social support was obtained by self-administered questionnaire, which had been developed in Korean language, by adopting NIOSH instrument and Extended Karasek Model(16 items). All subjects were also examined by rehabilitation medicine specialists for musculoskeletal disorders. Subjects(n=370) could be categorized into 4 groups, these were, housewives(n=89), shipyard CAD workers(n=89), general female workers(n=79; nurses, insurance counselors, public officials, clerks, etc), and telephone directory assistance operators(n=113). Results from univariate analyses indicated that all demographic factors, all confounders, scores for decision latitude and social support were not associated with the risk of musculoskeletal disorder. However, score for job demand was higher in musculoskeletal disorder cases than others. In subgroup analysis, this association was convinced again, in telephone directory assistance operators. Job strain model showed that the group of telephone directory assistance operators was high-stain group, and OR of musculo skeletal disorder was 2.446(95% C. I. : 1.174, 5.096), when comparing this with the low strain group. In conclusion, job strain is a risk factor for work-related musculoskeletal disorder.

        Cloning of metK from Actinoplanes teichomyceticus ATCC31121 and Effect of Its High Expression on Antibiotic Production

        A metK gene encoding S-adenosyl-L-methionine synthetase was cloned from the non-Streptomyces actinomycetes, Actinoplanes teichomyceticus ATCC31121. In order to evaluate the effect of the metK expression on antibiotic production in actinomycetes, an expression vector harboring the metK gene was constructed and introduced into Streptomyces lividans TK24 and A. teichomyceticus, and the antibiotic production of the exconjugants was assessed. As a result, it was determined that the expression of metK induced 17-fold and 2.2-fold increases in actinorhodin production from S. lividans TK24 and teicoplanin production from A. teichomyceticus, respectively, compared with the control strains.

      • Characterization of Polyacrylonitrile Based Carbon Nanofiber Mats via Electron Beam Processing

        <P>The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of electron beam irradiation to drive stabilization reactions within PAN nanofiber mats to obtain carbon nanofiber mats. PAN nanofiber mats with fiber diameters of 300-400 nm were prepared via an electrospinning method. Electrospun PAN nanofiber mats were stabilized by electron beam irradiation with various doses up to 5,000 kGy. Using the irradiation-stabilized PAN nanofiber mats, carbon nanofibers were obtained by pyrolysis in a tube furnace for 1 h at 1,000 degrees C under an N2 atmosphere. FT-IR analysis indicated that the transformation of C[triple bond]N groups to C==N groups was accelerated by electron beam stabilization. The thermal behavior of the PAN nanofiber mats was studied using DSC and TGA. DSC thermograms showed that the peak temperatures of the exothermic reactions were found to decrease with increasing electron beam irradiation doses. Irradiation-stabilized PAN nanofiber mats were not observed to dramatically decrease in weight between 290 degrees C and 320 degrees C, an observation presumed to be related to cyclization. The char yields of PAN were found to increase with increasing irradiation doses.</P>
