The multiple merger assembly of a hyperluminous obscured quasar at redshift 4.6

        Dí,az-Santos, T.,Assef, R. J.,Blain, A. W.,Aravena, M.,Stern, D.,Tsai, C.-W.,Eisenhardt, P.,Wu, J.,Jun, H. D.,Dibert, K.,Inami, H.,Lansbury, G.,Leclercq, F. American Association for the Advancement of Scienc 2018 Science Vol.362 No.6418

<P><B>Mergers drive a powerful dusty quasar</B></P><P>Massive galaxies in the early Universe host supermassive black holes at their centers. When material falls toward the black hole, it releases energy and is observed as a quasar. Astronomers found a population of powerful distant quasars that are obscured by dust, but it has been unclear how they are formed. Díaz-Santos <I>et al.</I> observed the dust-obscured quasar WISE J224607.56-052634.9 at submillimeter wavelengths, finding three small companion galaxies connected to the quasar by bridges of gas and dust. They inferred that galaxy mergers can provide both the raw material to power a quasar and large quantities of dust to obscure it.</P><P><I>Science</I>, this issue p. 1034</P><P>Galaxy mergers and gas accretion from the cosmic web drove the growth of galaxies and their central black holes at early epochs. We report spectroscopic imaging of a multiple merger event in the most luminous known galaxy, WISE J224607.56−052634.9 (W2246−0526), a dust-obscured quasar at redshift 4.6, 1.3 billion years after the Big Bang. Far-infrared dust continuum observations show three galaxy companions around W2246−0526 with disturbed morphologies, connected by streams of dust likely produced by the dynamical interaction. The detection of tidal dusty bridges shows that W2246−0526 is accreting its neighbors, suggesting that merger activity may be a dominant mechanism through which the most luminous galaxies simultaneously obscure and feed their central supermassive black holes.</P>

      • HCV, Acute, LT : A Disparate Subset of Double Negative T cells Contributes to the Outcome of Murine Fulminant Viral Hepatitis via Effector Molecule Fibrinogen-like Protein 2

( Di Wu ),( Hong Wu Wang ),( Tao Chen ),( Yong Zou ),( Wei Ming Yan ),( Mei Fang Han ),( Ze Guang Wu ),( Xiao Jing Wang ) 대한간학회 2013 춘·추계 학술대회 (KASL) Vol.2013 No.1

Aims: The underlying pathogenesis of fulminant viral hepatitis (FVH) has not been fully elucidated. As a subset of regulatory T cells, CD3+CD4-CD8- double negative (DN) T cells can suppress T cell responses. In this study, we present new insights into the immune mediated mechanisms involved in FVH caused by murine hepatitis virus strain 3 (MHV-3). Methods: The phenotype and cytokines of DN T cells were detected by flow cytometric analysis. The levels of mfgl2 were measured by real-time PCR and western-blot. The function of mfgl2 was measured by PCA. Results: After MHV-3 infection, the proportions of DN T cells increased significantly in BALB/cJ mice, and splenic DN T cells expressing high levels of CD69 were recruited by MHV-3 infected hepatocytes to the liver. Serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and total bilirubin (TBil) increased, accompanied by massive hepatocyte necrosis. These DN T cells were predominantly consisted of a TCRαβ+ subset expressing high levels of CD44, and did not produce cytokine except IL-2. Adoptive transfer of this subset of DN T cells to the MHV-3 infected mice resulted in an increase of murine fibrinogen-like protein 2 (mfgl2) expression in association with massive fibrin deposition in the liver. Following MHV-3 infection, membrane mfgl2 expression and functional procoagulant activity (PCA) increased remarkably in the DN T cells. Introduction of a recombinant adenovirus which encoded a microRNA specifically targeting mfgl2 gene (Ad-mfgl2-miRNA) in vivo significantly inhibited the hepatic expression of mfgl2, increased mice survival. However, under this condition, adoptive transfer of the DN T cells accelerated the disease progression and reversed the benefit from mfgl2 gene silence, led to a 100% death. Conclutions: Our results demonstrated that DN T cell-derived mfgl2 may serve as an important effector molecule contributing to the pathogenesis of MHV-3-induced FVH.

      • A Pilot Online Shopping System For College Students

Wu Di,Jung-Ja Kim 한국공학안전보건예술학회 2009 한국공학예술학회 논문지 Vol.1 No.-

We review on college students shopping market. By analyzing a conceptual model of college students’ shopping behaviors and intentions, we propose an empirical online shopping system which uses a storytelling method to give persuasive information and product recommendation for college students. Purchasing motivations are potentially combined into our proposed system.

      • Neither External nor Multilateral: States' Digital Diplomacy During Covid-19

Wu, Di,Sevin, Efe The Korean Association for Public Diplomacy 2022 Journal of public diplomacy Vol.2 No.1

How does a public health crisis play into the digital rhetoric of states? As Covid-19 is presenting a situation in which countries need to manage the international environment in a relatively short period, their practices could signal how digitization is going to influence public diplomacy in the longer run. This paper explores state public diplomacy in the context of a public health crisis. It develops a theoretical framework of public diplomacy on social media through how and what states communicated during the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic. Through keyword and hashtag analyses, we identify two patterns. First, states usually regard social media as an instrument for domestic communication rather than public diplomacy. The international impact of messaging has not been prioritized or well-recognized. Social media platforms such as Twitter have global outreach and messaging can be seen by audiences all over the world. Messages intended for the domestic audience could have an international impact. Thus, any communication on digital platforms should consider their public diplomacy outcomes. Second, while social media platforms are claimed to be for networking at different levels, states tend to connect with other states rather than with international organizations during the pandemic. States do not like to mention international organizations like the WHO and the UN on Twitter. Instead, they were either busy dealing with internal problems or cooperating with another state to combat the virus.

A novel stress distribution analytical model of O-ring seals under different properties of materials

Di Wu,Shaoping Wang,Xingjian Wang 대한기계학회 2017 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.31 No.1

The elastomeric O-ring seals have been widely used as sealing elements in hydraulic systems. The sealing performance of O-ring seals is related to stress distribution. The stresses distribution depends on the squeeze rate and internal pressure, and would vary with properties of O-ring seals materials. Thus, in order to study the sealing performance of O-ring seals, it is necessary to describe the analytic relationship between stress distribution and properties of O-ring seals materials. For this purpose, a novel Stress distribution analytical model (SDAM) is proposed in this paper. The analytical model utilizes two stress complex functions to describe the stress distribution of O-ring seals. The proposed SDAM can express not only the analytical relationship between stress distribution and Young’s modulus, but also the one between stress distribution and Poisson’s ratio. Finally, compared results between finite element analysis and the SDAM validate that the proposed model can effectively reveal the stress distribution under different properties for O-ring materials.

Mechanical simulation for the bending process of the AMOLED panel pad

        Wu Di,Jia Yongzhen,Liao Dunming,Zhang Bo,Liu Chen,Wang Ning,Peng Wenjing,Huang Liting 한국정보디스플레이학회 2023 Journal of information display Vol.24 No.2

Panel pad bending is a critical process to improve the screen-to-body ratio of an active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) panel. The failure analysis of the metal wirings is the key to ensure the reliability of signal transmission when the pad be bent to the back of the panel. In the present work, the sub-modeling technique combined with the periodic boundary condition was used to simulate the stress distribution of the bending area of the pad. The progressive failure of bent metal wirings was investigated by the extended finite element method. It is proved to be rational to prevent the wirings damage if the interlayer dielectric is replaced by an organic layer. In order to reduce stress of metal wirings, it is a measure to replace the original ultraviolet (UV) curable adhesive with a higher-modulus UV adhesive. The simulated results also show that rectangular perforations can avoid the stress concentration caused by the holes compared with circular perforations. For better stress distribution of metal wirings, it is necessary to increase the lengths of the rectangular holes and decrease the widths of that to a certain extent, which is helpful for restraining crack propagation by means of low-stress zones and holes.

Relationship between ICT supporting conditions and ICT application in Chinese urban and rural basic education

        Di Wu,Cong‑Cong L,Wen‑Ting Zhou,Chin‑Chung Tsai,Chun Lu 서울대학교 교육연구소 2019 Asia Pacific Education Review Vol.20 No.1

To investigate the relationships between schools’ ICT supporting conditions and ICT application, a total of 2567 primary and secondary schools from 47 prefecture-level cities were surveyed. The questionnaire was administered to collect the ICT supporting conditions in school (ISCS) and the ICT application in school (IAIS) for each school. Among the ISCS factors, the ICT Environment and School Scale were indicated as being significant predictors of IAIS. In addition, the significant predictive relationship between the ISCS and the IAIS factors for rural schools was much stronger than for urban schools. This indicates that the rural and urban schools in China are now at different ICT development stages. Furthermore, rural schools should focus on the improvement of physical ICT infrastructure and the quality digital resources, whereas urban schools should try to improve teachers’ inadequate epistemic beliefs and design thinking ability. Nevertheless, there are other external and individual-level factors that could directly and indirectly influence schools’ ICT application in education.

A many-objective optimization WSN energy balance model

( Di Wu ),( Shaojin Geng ),( Xingjuan Cai ),( Guoyou Zhang ),( Fei Xue ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2020 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.14 No.2

Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a distributed network composed of many sensory nodes. It is precisely due to the clustering unevenness and cluster head election randomness that the energy consumption of WSN is excessive. Therefore, a many-objective optimization WSN energy balance model is proposed for the first time in the clustering stage of LEACH protocol. The four objective is considered that the cluster distance, the sink node distance, the overall energy consumption of the network and the network energy consumption balance to select the cluster head, which to better balance the energy consumption of the WSN network and extend the network lifetime. A many-objective optimization algorithm to optimize the model (LEACH-ABF) is designed, which combines adaptive balanced function strategy with penalty-based boundary selection intersection strategy to optimize the clustering method of LEACH. The experimental results show that LEACH-ABF can balance network energy consumption effectively and extend the network lifetime when compared with other algorithms.
