      • 계면활성제에 의한 피부 생리적 활성 변화에 대한 Rose, Lavender essential oil의 유효성 연구

        The summary of a study of efficacy of Rose essential oil and Lavender essential oil against physiologic active change s of skin caused to surfactant is as follows. 1. In feed intake efficiency, there is more significant difference than control group, and then in water intake, there are significant differences between each group. It is presented that the water intake efficiency ratio of the group treated by Rose essential oil and Lavender essential oil is higher than all of groups to be participated in experiment. And then, the reason that the group treated Lavender essential oil is lower than any other group is needed water intake to be caused by stress. 2. As the result of serum analysis, in atherosclerotic index(A.I), the cholesterol of control group is higher than that of the group treated. As HDL cholesterol is activated, the dan1aged group is higher than control group, in LDL cholesterol the control group is higher. It is seen that the damaged group of the quantity of HDL cholesterol is lower frequently in A.I. This fact is presented that HDL cholesterol that cholesterol is exhausted is changed, because of the dan1aged group that replacement is activated. 3. As the observed result of alteration of sebaceous glands, it is appeared that the demage of sebaceous glands is destroyed in the damaged group. It is observed that epidermis of the group applied by Rose essential oil after treated surfactant is dry, secretion of phenomenon of water and sebum is appeared more. It is observed that the epidermis recovery of the group applied by Lavender essential oil after treated surfactant is insufficient. And then it is seen that stratum corneum is recovered and the quantity of sebum secretion is decreased. 4. As the observed result of alteration of Mast cell group treated by Rose essential oil and Lavender essential oil for 3 weeks Luna's stain(*100), it is observed that the damaged group treated by Lavender essential oil is numerous in alteration of mast cell's number and Mast cell's size is larger than the dan1aged group. It is presented that the Mast cell's number and Mast cell's size is larger than the damaged group, the Mast cell's size and quantity of the group treated by Rose essential oil and Lavender essential oil is decreased more.

        세포독성과 형태학적 변화 관찰을 통한 5종 에센셜 오일의 안전성 검색

        In medical- and esthetic area the aromatherapy has spread widely by using of inhalation, bath and topical massage with essential oil. Thereby the safety, danger of irritation and sensitive reaction and injury of essential oil must be considered for clients and therapists. Therefore, in this study the safety of 5 species essential oils (ginger, cypress, rosemary, lavender and black pepper) was proven by the measurement of MTT-assay and sirius red staining. Liver cell, brain cell and kidney cell were chosen for the cell viability assay and morphological change observations. In this result, ginger and rosemary have shown as 50% of liver cell viability in concentration of 0.0012㎕/㎖ and 0.0014㎕/㎖. Cell lysis and nucleus breaking were shown in concentration of 0.002% cypress and lavender treated liver cell, and 0.001% black pepper and cypress treated brain cell. Ginger, rosemary and lavender were appeared as very low cytotoxicity on brain cell (in concentration of 0.0006 ㎕/㎖(ginger oil), 0.0011㎕/㎖(rosemary) and 0.00054 ㎕/㎖(lavender)). And lavender, rosemary and ginger revealed very low toxicity on kidney cell, and cell lysis and nucleus breaking did not observed in concentration of 0.002% lavender and rosemary treated kidney cell. Cypress has shown a low cytotoxicity on liver, brain and kidney cell. In conclusion, 5 essential oils such as ginger, cypress, rosemary, lavender and black pepper may be use carefully in very low dosage for inhalation and the concentrated essential oil should not be directly touched and exposed. Absolute essential oils must be diluted with carrier oil for topical and systematic massage.

        라벤더 에센셜 오일의 항균력을 이용한 청소년 여드름 억제효과

        본 연구에서는 라벤더 오일의 항균력을 이용한 여드름 억제 효과 확인하기 위하여 실험대상자에게 4주 동안 라벤더 오일로 여드름을 관리한 결과 면포는 실험 초기에 빠른 개선효과를 보았으며 시술부위는 실험 종료 시기까지 지속적으로 호전되어 현저한 흉터 완화효과를 보았다. 라벤더 오일을 이용한 여드름 피부의 개선효과를 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 여드름의 감소와 피부의 유․수분량이 유의하게 효과적인 변화를 보였다. 둘째, 아로마 오일 사용 후 모공의 크기, 피지 분비, 피부 톤, 각질 상태 등이 정상적인 수준으로 효과적인 변화를 보였다. 셋째, 염증성 여드름 억제 효과 및 흉터 완화효과를 보였다넷째, P. acnes에 대한 항균력을 확인할 수 있었다. 이상의 결과로부터 볼 때 라벤더 오일은 여드름 피부개선에 상당히 효과적인 것으로 사료된다. 따라서 본 논문에서 진행된 여드름에 대한 라벤더 에센셜 오일의 피부개선 효과가 확인됨에 따라 라벤더 오일을 여드름의 예방적인 관리 및 스킨케어 등에 적용하는 것이 효과적이라 생각된다. This study conducted lavender oil treatment with the subjects for 4 weeks to identify inhibitory effects on acne using the oil's anti-bacteria. Cotton stuff had a quick improving effect in early experiment and treatment regions were continuously improved until the experiment was finished and a remarkable alleviative effect was demonstrated on scars. As a result, improving effects on the acne skin using lavender oil are as follows. First, there was a decrease in acne and a significantly effective change in oil and water of the skin. Second, after the use of aroma oil, pore size, sebum secretion, skin tone, and keratin condition were improved to a normal level. Third, the effects of inhibiting inflammatory acne and alleviating scars were found. Finally, the anti-bacteria effect of P. acnes was confirmed. Based on this result, lavender oil is considered to have great effects on the improvement of acne skin. Considering the effects of lavender essential oil on the improvement of acne skin demonstrated in this study, it will be effective to apply lavender oil to acne prevention and skin care.

        라벤더와 로즈마리 에센셜 오일 나노에멀션의 항균 활성

        Purpose: Essential oils are secondary metabolites of herbs and have antibacterial activities against foodborne pathogens. However, their applications for food protection are limited due to the hydrophobic and volatile natures of essential oils. Methods: In this study, essential oil nanoemulsions of rosemary and lavender were formulated with non-ionic surfactant Tween 80 and water using ultrasonic emulsification, and their antibacterial effects were determined. Results: The antibacterial activities of nanoemulsions were evaluated against 12 strains of 10 bacterial species, and significant antibacterial effects were observed against four Gram-positive and four Gram-negative bacteria but not against Streptococcus mutans and Shigella sonnei. In the disc diffusion test, the diameter of the inhibition zone proportionally increased with the concentration of nanoemulsions. Using cell turbidity measurement, minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of the nanoemulsions, which is the lowest concentration reducing viability of the initial bacterial inoculum by ${\geq}99.9%$, was significantly higher than the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the nanoemulsions. The largest bactericidal effects of lavender and rosemary essential oil nanoemulsions were observed against S. enterica and S. aureus, respectively. Conclusion: Nanoemulsion technique could improve antibacterial activity of essential oil nanoemulsions by increasing the solubility and stability of essential oils. Our findings shed light on the potential use of essential oil nanoemulsions as an alternative to chemical sanitizers in food protection.

        라벤더 오일이 자외선에 의해 손상된 피부의 항산화 효소 활성에 미치는 영향

        In this study, the Backs with a hair cut of 6-week-old healthy ICR male mice were once exposed to a dose of 400 mJ / cm2 ultraviolet B(UVB). An acute dermal inflammation was observed, and the certified 100% pure and natural lavender essential oil were applied to the UVB-exposed mice twice a day. At 24hours after exposure, the activity of Xanthine oxidase(XO) showed a significant increase (p<0.05) in up to 144 hours, the lavender essential oil-treatment group did not show any significant increase except for 48 hours after the exposure. Both the control and lavender essential oil-treatment groups had a significant decrease in the activities of Catalase(CAT) and Superoxide dismutase(SOD) up to 96 hours. Particularly, the CAT activity was significantly lower(p<0.05) in the lavender essential oil-treatment group than the control group at 24 hours and 48 hours as an average of 53% and 52%, respectively. the Glutathione S-transferase(GST) activity was significantly decreased in both the control and lavender essential oil-treatment groups up to 96 hours after the UVB exposure, not being in the control group at 24 hours. Therefore, it is assumed that the application of the lavender essential oil to the ultraviolet-damaged skin can be effective in treatment for the damaged skin.

      • 라벤더 향유를 이용한 향기흡입법이 중년기 여성의 수면장애와 우울에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 중년기 여성을 대상으로 라벤더 향유를 이용한 향기흡입법을 적용하여 수면장애와 우울에 미치는 영향을 규명하고자 실시하였다. 연구설계는 실험 전후의 수면과 우울을 비교한 단일 실험군 사전-사후조사의 원시실험설계이며, 대구광역시와 경북에 거주하고 주관적 수면장애를 호소하는 중년기 여성 17명을 대상으로 2000년 8월 10일에서 10월 20일까지 자료수집이 이루어졌다. 연구방법은 라벤더 향유를 이용한 향기흡입법을 적용하기 위하여 일주일간 대상자들에게 오후 3시부터 라벤더 향유를 채운 목걸이를 착용하고, 잠자리에 들기 전에는 목걸이 대신 라벤더 향유를 베게나 이불에 1~2방울 떨어뜨리게 하였다. 실험처치 동안 수면일지는 매일 아침에 직접 작성하였고, 연구자는 2일에 1회 선화방문을 통해 실험처치와 기록을 확인하고 격려하였다. 연구도구는 오진주 등(1998)이 개발한 주관적 수면측정도구, 수면일지(취침시각, 기상시각, 입면시간, 수면 중 각성횟수, 기상시 휴식감, 낮잠시간, 약물 복용여부 및 총 수면시간으로 구성된 8개 문항) 및 Zung의 자가평가 우울척도(1965)를 신석철(1977)이 번역한 것을 사용하였다. 자료분석은 SPSS 10.0 for Windows 프로그램을 이용하여 빈도와 백분율, Wilcoxon signed ranks test를 사용하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 제1가설 : 중년기 여성의 수면점수는 라벤더 향유를 이용한 향기흡입법 적용 전보다 향기흡입법 적용 후에 높을 것이다는 지지되었다 (p=0.005). 제2가설 : 중년기 여성의 수면실태는 라벤더 향유를 이용한 향기흡입법 적용 전보다 향기흡입법 적용 후에 향상될 것이다. 가설 2-1: 중년기 여성의 총 수면시간은 라벤더 향유를 이용한 향기흡입법 적용 전보다에 향기흡입법 적용 후에 더 길 것이다는 기각되었다(p=0.052). 가설 2-2: 중년기 여성의 입면 시간은 라벤더 향유를 이용한 향기흡입법 적용전보다 향기흡입법 적용 후에 더 짧을 것이다는 기각되었다(p=0.052). 가설 2-3: 중년기 여성의 수면 중 각성횟수는 라벤더 향유를 이용한 향기흡입법 적용전보다 향기흡입법 적용 후에 더 적을 것이다는 기각되었다(p=0.055). 가설 2-4: 중년기 여성의 기상시 휴식감은 라벤더 향유를 이용한 향기흡입법 적용 전보다 향기흡입법 적용 후에 더 높을 것이다는 기각되었다(p=0.103). 제3가설 : 중년기 여성의 우울점수는 라벤더 향유를 이용한 향기흡입법 적용 전보다 향기흡입법 적용 후에 더 낮을 것이다는 지지되었다(p=0.004). 이상의 결과에서 수면장애를 호소하는 중년기 여성에게 적용한 라벤더 향유를 이용한 향기흡 입법은 주관적인 수면점수와 우울점수에서 유의한 차이를 보였고, 수면실태(총 수면시간, 입면시간, 수면 중 각성횟수, 기상시 휴식감)에서는 유의한 변화에 도달하지는 못하였지만 향상되는 추세를 보임으로써 수면증진과 우울감소에 효과가 있는 것으로 생각된다. Objectives : The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of aromatherapy with lavender essential oil on sleep disturbance and depression in middle-aged women. Methods : The study design was an one-group pretest-posttest design. The study subjects were 17 middle-aged women with self-reported sleep disturbance for more than a month. The study was carried out from August 10 to October 20, 2000. The women were interviewed to assess the sleeping pattern for one week and depression prior to the aromatherapy. They were instructed to wear a necklace filled with lavender essential oil in the afternoon and to drop 1 - 2 drops of oil on their pillow or mattress at night for one week and to record a sleep diary. Sleeping pattern and depression were measured again after the aromatherapy for a week. Sleep pattern was assessed by the Korean sleep scale of Oh, Son & Kim (1998) and Sleep Diary (included a bed time, rise time, sleep latency, frequency of awaking, morning refreshment, nap, medication and sleep length) and depression was measured with Self Depression Scale of Zung. SPSS 10.0 for Windows program was used for data analysis. Results : The score of Korean sleep scale was significantly increased after aromatherapy with lavender essential oil. However, sleep patterns (sleep length, sleep latency, frequency of awaking and morning refreshment) showed no significant change. The score of Self Depression Scale was significantly decreased after the aromatherapy. Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that aromatherapy with lavender essential oil is effective in sleep promotion and depression reduction in middle-aged women.

        Streptococcus mutans 대한 Lavender와 Peppermint Oil의 항균효과

        Objectives: The main objectives of this study were to verify the antibacterial activity of two essential oils, lavender and peppermint, against dental caries and to review their synergistic effect when used in combination. Our results provide basic data for the evaluation of the use of these two substances towards the prevention and cure of dental caries. Methods: The sample solutions of lavender and peppermint oils were prepared in three different concentrations (30%, 50%, and 70% (v/v)) by diluting them with third-distilled water and Tween 20. Streptococcus mutans was selected as the bacterial species for testing. The disk diffusion method was used to measure the antibacterial activity of the sample solutions. For generating growth curves and measuring the number of clusters of the bacterial, the liquid medium-dilution method was used; the absorbance of the medium was measured at 600 nm after 3, 6, 12 and 24 hours. Results: When the antibacterial activity of the oils was tested via the disk diffusion method, the activity improved with increasing concentrations of all the sample solutions of peppermint, lavender, and the blend, but there was no significant difference between them with respect to the type of oil. In the growth curves of S. mutans, growth inhibition was observed after 12 hours. The inhibitory effect of 30% lavender oil on growth was 64.9% and 80.1% after 12 and 24 hours of treatment, respectively whereas that of peppermint oil was 71.3% and 80.1% after 12 and 24 hours of treatment, respectively. The inhibitory effect of the blended oil was 71.9% and 81.0% after 12 and 24 hours of treatment, respectively. Conclusions: Further research is still required in order to determine the efficacy of lavender and peppermint oils, as well as other essential oils, for wider use in preventing dental caries.

        제주산 로즈마리와 라벤더(Rosmarinus officinalis L., Lavandula angustifolia Mill.)로부터 추출한 essential oil과 hydrosol의 성분 분석 및 항산화 활성

        제주도에서 생산된 로즈마리(Rosmarinus officinalis L.)와 라벤더(Lavandula angustifolia Mill.) 두 종의 허브 에센셜 오일과 하이드로졸 성분을 GC-MS로 분석하였다. 로즈마리 에센셜 오일에는 α-pinene (40.96%)의 함량이 가장 높았으며, 라벤더 에센셜 오일에는 camphor (34.44%)가 가장 높았다. 로즈마리 하이드로졸에는 verbenone이 (45.31%) 가장 높게 나타났으며, 라벤더 하이드로졸에서는 camphor (67.04%)로 가장 높게 나타났다. 또한 로즈마리와 라벤더 에센셜 오일과 하이드로졸의 항산화 효능을 검증해 본 결과, 두 종류의 에센셜 오일 모두 DPPH, ABTS 라디칼 소거능과, Fe2+ ion 킬레이팅 활성을 나타냈으나, alkyl 소거능은 거의 나타나지 않았다. DPPH 라디칼소거능은 로즈마리 에센셜 오일이 라벤더 에센셜 오일보다 우수한 반면, Fe2+ ion 킬레이팅 실험에서는 라벤더 에센셜 오일이 로즈마리 에센셜 오일보다 더 우수했다. 로즈마리, 라벤더하이드로졸 모두 alkyl 라디칼 소거능을 나타냈으나, 라벤더 하이드로졸만이 Fe2+ ion 소거능을 나타냈다. 특히 H2O2에 의해 유도된 Fibroblast와 HaCaT에서의 세포독성 실험에서 하이드로 졸이 에센셜 오일보다 우수한 세포사멸 억제능을 나타냈다. Constituents of the essential oil (EO)s and hydrosol of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) and lavender (Lavandula angustifolia Mill.) were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The identified major constituents were α- pinene (40.96%), camphor (34.44%), verbenone (45.31%), and camphor (67.04%) in rosemary EO, lavender EO, rosemary hydrosol, and lavender hydrosol, respectively. The antioxidant activity of EO and hydrosol extracted from rosemary and lavender were evaluated. Both EO showed di(phenyl)-(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl) iminoazanium (DPPH) and 2,2`-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline- 6-sulphonic acid) free radical scavenging activities as well as Fe2+ ion chelating activity but no alkyl radical scavenging activity. Rosemary EO showed higher DPPH radical scavenging activity than lavender, whereas lavender EO showed higher Fe2+ ion chelating activity. Both rosemary and lavender hydrosols showed alkyl radical scavenging activity, but only lavender hydrosol showed an activity on Fe2+ chelating assay. Both rosemary and lavender hydrosols also protected the dermal fibroblast and the HaCaT keratinocytes against H2O2-induced cytotoxicity.

        라벤더 정유 흡입이 운동 스트레스와 운동 수행 시 뇌파의 변화양상에 미치는 영향

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects by the inhalation of lavender essential oil on the changes of electroencephalogram(EEG) patterns under cognitive and physical stress situation in both male and female university students. A total of twelve university students(males = 6; females = 6) were recruited in this study. In order to measure EEG patterns, EEG electrodes were attached at the prefrontal(Fp1, Fp2), frontal(F3, F4), temporal(T3, T4) and parietal(P3, P4) areas under the international 10-20 system, and EEG patterns measured for 3 min per each period of immediately before the study, immediately after the inhalation of lavender essential oil for 2 min, immediately after cognitive stress for 2min and immediately after physical stress through treadmill running for 10 min, respectively. There were trends of the decrease of relative α and β waves with the increase of relative θ wave suggesting the relaxing effect of this aromatherapy, and also, trends of the increase of relative α wave immediately after cognitive and physical stress stimuli, suggesting the stress reduction effect of this intervention. In addition, these trends was more noticeable in female university students than male university students. With respect to repetitive measure ANOVA test, the sex and time interaction effects were observed in EEG patterns of some brain areas. In other words, the effects of lavender essential oil under cognitive and physical stress situation indicated sex-specific differences. Thus, further studies will be required to define the precise mechanism behind this sex-specific effects of lavender essential oil.

        라벤더 오일의 통증완화 효과

        Formalin-induced 22-kHz ultrasonic vocalizations by rats have been implicated to be a behavioral marker of negative affective state. Lavender essential oil is predominantly used as a relaxant, sedative and anxiolytic action in aromatherapy. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether there inhibition effect in lavender aganist to formalin–induced negative affective state, By measuring 22-kHz frequency ultrasonic vocalizations in rats. Increased 22-kHz frequency ultrasonic vocalizations were monitored after injecting of 5% formalin on hindpaw. Lavender essential oil showed inhibition effect against formalin-induced 22-kHz ultrasonic vocalizations with no affect comparing to the pre-treatment 22-kHz ultrasonic calls. These results suggest that formalin-induced negative affective state can be inhibited by lavender essential oil.
