Steering gear rattle noise is one of NVH quality problems raised by field customers and robust design should be taken into consideration to prevent rattle noise. In this study, steering gear layout effect on rattle noise has been investigated for yoke side design optimization. for this, vehicle interior noise and gear vibration have been measured when driving on test road with rough surface and also low frequency vibration of steering gear housing and tie rod were analyzed to understand the gear behavior which can account for rattle mechanism. As the result of this, the effect of steering gear layout for rattle noise has been identified and simple design concept for yoke side proposed to contain rattle noise according to gear layout.
