The Battlefield Management System(BMS) of Ground Fighting Vehicles has employed its own message format but there have been requirements of using the standard message format, KVMF. To meet these requirements, we analyzed BMS and KVMF and incorporated KVMF into BMS. In this paper, we would like to introduce our implementation of KVMF in BMS.

This work describes the possibility of ABL(Airborne Laser) applications to the Korean missile defense. The missile defense system is the multilayered defense system that consists of shooters, sensors and BM/C4I. The ABL is the missile defense system of boost phase. It is placing a high energy, megawatt class chemical oxygen iodine laser and highly sophisticated beam control/fire control and battle management systems on a modified Boeing 747-400F aircraft to detect, track and destroy ballistic missiles in their boost phase of flight. This work analysis the ballistic missile's threat of North Korea and the flight trajectory for the SCUD missile that is cut-off by the ABL. From this analysis the possibility of the ABL applications to the Korean missile defense is presented.

Transmission is a core component of helicopter to transmit power from engine to rotor and must have a endurance to be able to show satisfactorily its performance required during its life time. When developing a new helicopter, both military and civil airworthiness authorities require a tie-down test to verify its endurance. Procedure for transmission endurance test is described in FAR part 29 or US military specification but its details are more or less ambiguous. In this paper, we have proposed a proper procedure for transmission endurance test by giving KUH transmission endurance test example including determination of applicable torque, load and test profile.

Korean military is currently using and operating a precision approach and landing system, called RAPCON (ASR/PAR), which is imported from overseas. However, drawbacks of this system are operational and cost problems that come along, e.g. straightness of the radio waves, limited ability of narrow searching, lack of interoperability, and high cost of installation and maintenance. Moreover, as the civilian air traffic control uses a similar system compared to the military, the so called DME/VOR/ILS, disturbance between these two systems triggered the consideration of GNSS as alternative system. In this paper, we conduct a research on trends in the field of precise approach and landing systems based on GNSS, analyze weaknesses of GNSS(jamming, fault) and consider possible solutions. Furthermore, we propose the precise approach and landing system based on GNSS to be used by the Korean military as we found it to be also suitable for military purposes. Finally, we examine the benefits of a domestic development with different focuses(development/cost of mass production/operational advantages and potential for increased performance).

The LVC(Live, Virtual, Constructive) system of CTC(Combat Training Center) is at the very cutting edge of modeling and simulation technology, which has become widely accepted an enabler for a new military training transformation. In this paper, the architecture of LVC system is proposed for the Korean brigade-level CTC, and high level operational architecture, system architecture, and technical standard architecture are suggested.

Avionics system tends to be designed to have the integrated architecture, and it is getting difficult and complex to verify the flight-critical function because of sophisticated structure. In Korean Utility Helicopter, mission computer acts as the MUX Bus Controller to handle the data from both communication, identification, mission/display and survivability equipment inside Mission Equipment Package and aircraft subsystems such as fuel system and electrical system while it is interfacing with Automatic Flight Control System and Full-Authority Digital Engine Control via ARINC-429 bus. The Flight Displays which is classified as flight-critical function in aircraft is implemented on Primary Flight Display after mission computer processes data from AFCS in order to generate graphics. This paper defines the flight-critical function implemented in mission computer for KUH, and presents the static and dynamic test procedures which is performed on System Integration Laboratory along with Playback Recorder prior to flight test.

Unmanned surface vehicles(USVs) have been developed for special operations in foreign navies. These will be employed to conduct critical missions including inspection, coast guard, ISR, fire protection, precision strike, mine interception warfare and antisubmarine warfare. It is also known the USVs will be deployed at the front line of the network-centric warfare to replace the manned naval operations. The unmanned operation can, thus, minimize unnecessary risk to personnel and enhance the success probability for the imposed mission. In this research, the USVs which are under operation and development in foreign navies are investigated. Based on this, an USV with $7\~10m$ of length and 10ton of weight for the Korean Navy which can be deployed near the Northern Limit Line(NLL), is proposed.

Next Generation Weapon system from the center of the platform to share information in real-time Network Centric Warfare(NCW: Network Centric Warfare) has been changed. Data link system is defined as a network. That is, all in real-time battlefield information is to enable sharing. Data link system is classified as a precision strike, Monitoring/control, control of a Patriot missile battery systems. These systems are most effective in a Joint warfare and precision strike. Data Link Systems(Data Communications) implementation is accomplished by using the KDLM(Korean Data Link Modem) and Radio Transceiver. KDLM is operated in conjunction with the legacy Radios(re-using fielded HF/VHF/UHF radio systems). In this paper, we describe in terms of KDLM system design. In this paper, the proposed design structure is how to effectively interact with legacy various radio. First, The results provide an analysis of that Dynamic TDMA system and apply modem structure. Radio characteristics data are necessary for an effective TDMA system design. This article analyzes the test results and describes the structure to improve the receive performance.

The load requirements should be known to design mechanical structure. This paper proposes a generation method of load requirements using U.S. military specification to design the external mounting structure of the helicopters of which the flight environments such as aerodynamic forces and inertia forces are unknown. In this study, the load requirements which were applied at the design of the pod structure for helicopter captive flight test could be computed by using this method. The validation of proposed method was confirmed from the test flight using developed pod system.

"Electronic equipment mounted on military vehicles is exposed to external shocks and vibrations. This causes problems in tactical operation and also causes cost loss in equipment maintenance. Therefore, to optimize the test standards for military vehicles with vibration, dynamic characteristics should be analyzed and standardized through actual driving tests. In this paper, the internal structure of 2.5tons military vehicle is designed in the form of a drawer and lathe, and the dynamic characteristics are identified by experiment, and the design is proposed."
