Life table attributes of Clitostethus arcuatus (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) feeding on Trialeurodes vaporariorum and Siphoninus phillyreae (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae)

        Maryam Yazdani,Mohammad Amin Samih 한국응용곤충학회 2012 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.15 No.2

The ladybird beetle Clitostethus arcuatus Rossi (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) is one of the most effective predators of the greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum Westwood, and the ash whitefly, Siphoninus phillyreae Haliday (Hem: Aleyrodidae). Two stock cultures of C. arcuatus were established under controlled conditions (25±2 °C, 65±5%RH and L–D:16–8), one using T. vaporariorum and one using S. phillyreae as prey. Newly laid C. arcuatus eggs from each culture were evaluated for immature survival. Thirty pairs of C. arcuatus (24 h-old)were selected for studying the reproductive life history of C. arcuatus on the two hosts. Results showed that the period between oviposition and hatch did not show significant difference on different prey. Duration of different instars stages of C. arcuatus differed significantly, except second instars, which was 4 days for both diets. Pupal period differed significantly between the two prey types. Egg hatch was 95% and 91.7% for adults fed on T. vaporariorum and S. phillyreae, respectively. Therewas a significant difference among some treatments for gross fecundity rate and net reproductive rate (R0), indicating that prey had a significant impact on the biological activities of C. arcuatus. The intrinsic rate (rm) and finite rate of increase (λ) were 0.063 and 0.078, respectively, for T. vaporariorum, and 1.0026 and, 1.08, respectively, for S. phillyreae.

Synthesis of Evidence to Support EMS Personnel's Mental Health During Disease Outbreaks: A Scoping Review

        Du Bronson B.,Rezvani Sara,Bigelow Philip,Nowrouzi-Kia Behdin,Boscart Veronique M.,Yung Marcus,Yazdani Amin 한국산업안전보건공단 산업안전보건연구원 2022 Safety and health at work Vol.13 No.4

Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel are at high risk for adverse mental health outcomes during disease outbreaks. To support the development of evidence-informed mitigation strategies, we conducted a scoping review to identify the extent of research pertaining to EMS personnel's mental health during disease outbreaks and summarized key factors associated with mental health outcomes. We systematically searched three databases for articles containing keywords within three concepts: EMS personnel, disease outbreaks, and mental health. We screened and retained original peer-reviewed articles that discussed, in English, EMS personnel's mental health during disease outbreaks. Where inferential statistics were reported, the associations between individual and work-related factors and mental health outcomes were synthesized. Twenty-five articles were eligible for data extraction. Our findings suggest that many of the contributing factors for adverse mental health outcomes are related to inadequacies in fulfilling EMS personnel's basic safety and informational needs. In preparation for future disease outbreaks, resources should be prioritized toward ensuring adequate provisions of personal protective equipment and infection prevention and control training. This scoping review serves as a launching pad for further research and intervention development.
