By having accurate knowledge of the magnetic field distribution and the thrust calculation in linear synchronous motors, assessing the performance and optimization of the motor design are possible. In this paper, after carrying out a performance analysis of a single-sided wound secondary linear synchronous motor by varying the motor design parameters in a layer model and a d-q model, machine single- and multi-objective design optimizations are carried out to improve the thrust density of the motor based on the motor weight and the motor efficiency multiplied by its power factor by defining various objective functions including a flexible objective function. A genetic algorithm is employed to search for the optimal design. The results confirm that an overall improvement in the thrust mean, efficiency multiplied by the power factor, and thrust to the motor weight ratio are obtained. Several design conclusions are drawn from the motor analysis and the design optimization. Finally, a finite element analysis is employed to evaluate the effectiveness of the employed machine models and the proposed optimization method.

The main objective of this a paper is to improve the efficiency of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) by using an improved direct torque control (DTC) strategy. The basic idea behind the proposed strategy is to predict the impact of a small change in the stator flux amplitude at each sampling period to decrease electrical loss before the change is applied. Accordingly, at every sampling time, a voltage vector is predicted and applied to the machine to fulfill the flux change. The motor drive simulations confirm a significant improvement in efficiency as well as a very fast and smooth response under the proposed strategy.

End-Effect Compensation in Linear Induction Motor Drives
Mohammad Reza Satvati,Sadegh Vaez-Zadeh 전력전자학회 2011 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.11 No.5
In this paper a control system with a high performance dynamic response for linear induction motors (LIMs) is proposed which takes into account the end-effect in both the machine model and the control system. Primary flux oriented control has two major drawbacks i.e. a lack of decoupling of the thrust and the flux and a possibility of system instability due to the end-effect. Both of these drawbacks have been dealt with in this paper. A flux estimation method is proposed to correct the flux orientation error caused by the end effect. Extensive motor performance evaluations under the proposed control system prove its superiority over conventional vector control.
Performance Analysis of Contactless Electrical Power Transfer for Maglev
S. Hasanzadeh,S. Vaez-Zadeh 한국자기학회 2012 Journal of Magnetics Vol.17 No.2
Contactless electrical power transfer through an air gap is a revived technology for supplying energy to many movable applications including Maglev. In this paper, magnetic equivalent circuits and analytical models of contactless electrical power transfer systems are developed and evaluated through experiment. Overall coupling coefficient and overall efficiency are introduced as means for evaluating the systems’ performance. Compensating capacitors in primary and secondary sides of the systems improve the overall coupling coefficient and overall efficiency. Using the analytical models, the effects of different parameters and variables such as air gap and load current are analyzed to give a high coupling coefficient and an improved efficiency of power transfer for different compensation structures.
