Balanced Buck-Boost Switching Converter to Reduce Commom-mode Conducted Noise
Shoyama, Masahito,Ohba, Masashi,Ninomiya, Tamotsu The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2002 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.2 No.2
Because conventional switching converters have been usually using unbalanced circuit topologies, parasitice between the drain/collertor of an active switch and frame ground through its heat sink may generate the commom-mode conducted noise. We have proposed a balanced switching converter circuit, whitch is an effective way to reduce the commom-mode converter version of the balanced switching converter was presented and the mechanism of the commom-mode noise reduction was explained using equivalent circuits. This paper extends the concept of the balanced switch converter circuit and presents a buck-boost converter version of the blanced switching converter. The feature of common-mode niose reduction is confirmed by experimental resuits and the mechanisem of the commom-mode niose reduction is explained using equivalent circuits.
Evaluation of Clothing Colors for Elderly People(2)
Shoyama, Shigeko,Kim, Jung-Sook,Tochihara, Yutaka 한국의류산업학회 2001 한국의류산업학회지 Vol.3 No.5
The present study focused on the color of clothing for elderly Korean women, from the viewpoint of helping elderly people live more interesting lives with regard to their clothing, considering that the Korean society will become elderly-oriented in the near future. We took photographs of the elderly served as the models, displayed them on a computer screen , and produced 75 colors of the clothing in the elderly using computer graphics. The 75 colors were evaluated by 2 groups, one of elderly Korean woman group and a group of female students. We compared the ideal colors for and the colors actually worn by elderly people. The evaluation of the clothing colors for elderly women differed between the elderly woman group and the female student group. Analysis of images of the clothing colors selected by the elderly women showed that they attach importance to elegance when selecting clothing colors and have a strong desire to become active. The images held by female students concerning ideal clothing colors for elderly women closely pertained to commonness and inactivity

The present study selected female Japanese and Korean university students (a population that is assumed to be sensitive to the subject of fashion) as subjects. We investigated (1) their awareness of and attitudes about clothing styles, and (2) their relationships to fashion and various media. In both Japan and Korea, female students were highly interested in fashion and their major motive for adopting a given fashion was "style change" (the desire to change one's style by adopting a novel fashion) or "self-expression" (the desire to express oneself and achieve self-realization). They most frequently adopted a fashion during the acceptance phase (when the fashion has spread through the market and been shown extensively by the media). Korean students were more interested in and positive to fashion than were Japanese counterparts. Fashion magazines often served as the major source of information on clothing fashions. The frequency of buying magazines and the number of magazines bought were higher in Korea than in Japan. The time spent in reading these magazines was also longer in Korea. The frequency of buying fashion magazines correlated with the degree of interest in fashion and the time when a fashion was adopted. Students who adopted a fashion earlier tended to buy fashion magazines more frequently.
Steady-State Characteristics of Resonant Switched Capacitor Converters
Shoyama Masahito,Deriha Fumitoshi,Ninomiya Tamotsu The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2005 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.5 No.3
Conventional switched capacitor converters have an inherent drawback that their efficiency decreases as the output current increases. This inherent drawback is due to a periodical forced charging and discharging operation in the internal switched capacitors accompanied by a large capacitor current. Their efficiency can not be increased by decreasing its internal resistance. As a result, conventional switched capacitor converters have been limited to uses with a very small output current. To solve this problem we presented a novel switched capacitor converter topology that uses a resonant operation instead of the forced charging and discharging operation. Its advantage over a conventional switched capacitor converter is higher efficiency even in a high output current region. In this paper, the operation analysis and steady-state characteristics are described in detail for a half buck type switched capacitor converter, and they are confirmed by experimentation.

Common-mode Noise Reduction in the Watkins-Johnson Converter
Masahito Shoyama,Tamotsu Ninomiya 전력전자학회 2007 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.- No.-
Common-mode conducted noise in switching converters frequently causes radiated noise emission from their power code, so it is important to reduce this noise to meet EMC. In this paper common-mode conducted noise is much reduced in the Watkins-Johnson converter by current cancellation. The mechanism of the noise reduction is investigated, and the condition for the noise reduction is obtained by experiments.
