      • Drug adsorption and anti-microbial activity of functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes

        Saxena, Megha,Mittal, Disha,Boudh, Richa,Kumar, Kapinder,Verma, Anita K.,Saxena, Reena Techno-Press 2021 Advances in nano research Vol.11 No.6

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were first oxidized (O-CNTs) to introduce carboxylic group and then further functionalized (F-CNTs) with m-phenylenediamine, which was confirmed by FTIR and SEM. It was used as an effective adsorbent for the adsorptive removal of diclofenac drug from water. Under optimum conditions of pH 6, stirring speed 600 rpm, the maximum adsorption capacity obtained was 532 mg g-1 which is superior to the values reported in literature. The adsorption was quite rapid as 25 mg L-1 drug solution was adsorbed in only 3 minutes of contact time with 10 mg of adsorbent dose. The adsorption kinetics and isotherms were studied using various models to evaluate the adsorption process. The results showed that the data best fit in kinetics pseudo-second order and Langmuir isotherm model. Furthermore, the oxidized and functionalized MWCNTs were applied on gram-negative Escherichia coli and gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus using agar disc diffusion assay to validate their anti-microbial activity. Results were unique as both oxidized and functionalized MWCNTs were equally active against both E. coli and S. aureus. The newly synthesized F-CNTs have great potential in water treatment, with their dual action of removing drug and pathogens from water, makes it potential applicant to save environment.

      • Systematic review of the effectiveness of homoeopathy in the treatment of autism spectrum disorder

Vibha Saxena,Gish Chacko,Udit Saxena 한국언어재활사협회 2021 Clinical Archives of Communication Disorders Vol.6 No.1

Purpose: Over the years there is a significant increase in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), yet there is no standard medical treatment available for this population. Homoeopathy as reported in literature can prove to be a boon for ASD treatment as in homoeopathy patients are prescribed medicine based on specific symptoms in light of associated physical and mental aspect. A systematic review of literature was required to put together the reported information on the relation between homoeopathy and ASD. This work reviews all the related literature in-depth. Methods: Literature on the concerned issue was searched from databases like Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, JASTOR, Google Scholar, PsycINFO (psychology and psychiatry literature), and ERIC (Education Resources Information Center). Results: In total, 19 published articles were found on the investigation of using homoeopathy in the treatment of ASD. Seventeen studies showed that homoeopathy can be effective in the treatment of ASD. Result of 1 study was inconclusive and 1 more study found homoeopathy to be not suitable in treating ASD. Conclusions: Most reports support the use of homoeopathy in the treatment of ASD. They describe that homoeopathy efficiently control ASD symptoms and also supplements other therapies used in the treatment of ASD. Few authors suggested otherwise too.

      • Efficient 5G Small Cell Planning With eMBMS for Optimal Demand Response in Smart Grids

        Saxena, Navrati,Roy, Abhishek,Kim, HanSeok IEEE 2017 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INDUSTRIAL INFORMATICS - Vol.13 No.3

<P>Smart Grids (SGs) are emerging cyber-physical systems, equipped with sophisticated communication and information technologies, for efficient and large-scale power supply and management. SGs demand advanced communication technologies between energy providers and consumers, for enabling a control-feedback loop, by using time-dependent pricing. In this paper, we propose an efficient planning of 5G small cells, with evolved multimedia broadcast and multicast communication, between aggregators (small cells) and SG consumers, for efficient demand-response (DR) programs. After pointing out that optimal multicast scheduling and radio resource management problem is NP-complete, we propose two different solutions, based on dynamic programming (DP) and greedy heuristics, for minimizing the energy cost for DR customers. We also analyze the performance of SG user capacity for 5G single cell multicast and multicast broadcast single frequency network. Extensive OPNET simulation results, over actual energy data and real wireless trace, demonstrate that our proposed 5G small cell planning and multicast solutions are capable of reducing energy production cost by 30%, with up to 35% shift in peak energy load, low latency and packet drop.</P>

A Novel Test Structure for Process Control Monitor for Un-Cooled Bolometer Area Array Detector Technology

Saxena, R.S.,Bhan, R.K.,Jalwania, C.R.,Lomash, S.K. The Institute of Electronics and Information Engin 2006 Journal of semiconductor technology and science Vol.6 No.4

This paper presents the results of a novel test structure for process control monitor for uncooled IR detector technology of microbolometer arrays. The proposed test structure is based on resistive network configuration. The theoretical model for resistance of this network has been developed using 'Compensation' and 'Superposition' network theorems. The theoretical results of proposed resistive network have been verified by wired hardware testing as well as using an actual 16x16 networked bolometer array. The proposed structure uses simple two-level metal process and is easy to integrate with standard CMOS process line. The proposed structure can imitate the performance of actual fabricated version of area array closely and it uses only 32 pins instead of 512 using conventional method for a $16{\times}16$ array. Further, it has been demonstrated that the defective or faulty elements can be identified vividly using extraction matrix, whose values are quite similar(within the error of 0.1%), which verifies the algorithm in small variation case(${\sim}1%$ variation). For example, an element, intentionally damaged electrically, has been shown to have the difference magnitude much higher than rest of the elements(1.45 a.u. as compared to ${\sim}$ 0.25 a.u. of others), confirming that it is defective. Further, for the devices having non-uniformity ${\leq}$ 10%, both the actual non-uniformity and faults are predicted well. Finally, using our analysis, we have been able to grade(pass or fail) 60 actual devices based on quantitative estimation of non-uniformity ranging from < 5% to > 20%. Additionally, we have been able to identify the number of bad elements ranging from 0 to > 15 in above devices.

Bayesian Estimation of Shape Parameter of Pareto Income Distribution Using LINEX Loss Function

Saxena, Sharad,Singh, Housila P. The Korean Statistical Society 2007 Communications for statistical applications and me Vol.14 No.1

The economic world is full of patterns, many of which exert a profound influence over society and business. One of the most contentious is the distribution of wealth. Way back in 1897, an Italian engineer-turned-economist named Vilfredo Pareto discovered a pattern in the distribution of wealth that appears to be every bit as universal as the laws of thermodynamics or chemistry. The present paper proposes some Bayes estimators of shape parameter of Pareto income distribution in censored sampling. Asymmetric LINEX loss function has been considered to study the effects of overestimation and underestimation. For the prior distribution of the parameter involved a number of priors including one and two-parameter exponential, truncated Erlang and doubly truncated gamma have been contemplated to express the belief of the experimenter s/he has regarding the parameter. The estimators thus obtained have been compared theoretically and empirically with the corresponding estimators under squared error loss function, some of which were reported by Bhattacharya et al. (1999).

Endotracheal tube cuff pressure during laparoscopic bariatric surgery: highs and lows

        Saxena Dipti,Raghuwanshi Jyoti,Dixit Atul,Chaturvedi Subodh 대한마취통증의학회 2022 Anesthesia and pain medicine Vol.17 No.1

Background: Gastric calibration tubes (GCTs) are a unique component of bariatric surgery. This study aimed to assess changes in the endotracheal tube (ETT) cuff pressure during laparoscopic bariatric surgery. Methods: This was a prospective observational study consisting of 124 American Society of Anesthesiologists class I–III morbidly obese patients (body mass index > 40 kg/m2) undergoing elective laparoscopic bariatric surgery under general anesthesia. The baseline ETT cuff pressure was 28 cmH2O. Cuff pressure, peak airway pressure, and hemodynamic changes were observed during various steps of bariatric surgery. Immediate postoperative complications during the first 24 h were recorded. Results: ETT cuff pressure increased significantly from the baseline (28 cmH2O) after insertion of GCT (36.3 ± 7.3 cmH2O) and creation of carboperitoneum (33.3 ± 3.8 cmH2O). Cuff pressure decreased significantly on GCT removal (24.0 ± 3.0 cmH2O) and release of carboperitoneum (24.7 ± 3.0 cmH2O). Peak airway pressure increased from the initial baseline value of 25.1 ± 3.1 to 26.5 ± 4.5 after GCT insertion, creation of carboperitoneum (32.6 ± 4.4), attainment of reverse Trendelenburg position (32.3 ± 4.0), and subsequent return to supine position 32.5 ± 4.8.Conclusions: The endotracheal cuff pressure significantly varies during the intraoperative period. Routine monitoring and readjustment of cuff pressure are advisable in all laparoscopic bariatric surgeries to minimize the possibility of postoperative complications.

LOWER AND UPPER FORMATION RADICAL OF NEAR-RINGS

        Saxena, P.K.,Bhandari, M.C. Department of Mathematics 1979 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.19 No.2

In this paper we continue the study of formation radical (F-radical) classes initiated in [3]. Hereditary and stronger properties of F-radical classes are discussed by giving construction for lower hereditary, lower stronger and lower strongly hereditary F-radical classes containing a given class M. It is shown that the Baer F-radical B is the lower strongly hereditary F-radical class containing the class of all nilpotent ideals and it is the upper radical class with $\{(I,\;N){\mid}N{\in}C,\;N\;is\;prime\}{\subset}SB$ where SB denotes the semisimple F-radical class of B and C is an arbitrary but fixed class of homomorphically closed near-rings. The existence of a largest F-radical class contained in a given class is examined using the concept of complementary F-radical introduced by Scott [5].
