During a comprehensive study of indigenous prokaryotic species in South Korea, nine bacterial species in the phylum Bacteroidetes were isolated from freshwater environmental samples that were collected from three major rivers in the Republic of Korea. High 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity (${\geq}98.7%$) and robust phylogenetic clades with the closely related species suggest that each strain was correctly assigned to an independent and predefined bacterial species. There were no previous reports of these nine species in Korea. Within the phylum Bacteroidetes, four species were assigned to the genus Flavobacterium, order Flavobacteriales, and five species to three genera of two families in the order Cytophagales. Gram reaction, colony and cell morphology, basic biochemical characteristics, isolation source, and strain IDs are described in the species description section.

Park, Kunsu,Ahn, Kyunghan,Cha, Joonil,Lee, Sanghwa,Chae, Sue In,Cho, Sung-Pyo,Ryee, Siheon,Im, Jino,Lee, Jaeki,Park, Su-Dong,Han, Myung Joon,Chung, In,Hyeon, Taeghwan American Chemical Society 2016 JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY - Vol.138 No.43
<P>Thermoelectrics directly converts waste heat into electricity and is considered a promising means of sustainable energy generation. While most of the recent advances in the enhancement of the thermoelectric figure of merit (ZT) resulted from a decrease in lattice thermal conductivity by nanostructuring, there have been very few attempts to enhance electrical transport properties, i.e., the power factor. Here we use nanochemistry to stabilize bulk bismuth telluride (Bi2Te3) that violates phase equilibrium, namely, phase-pure n-type K0.06Bi2Te3.18. Incorporated potassium and tellurium in Bi2Te3 far exceed their solubility limit, inducing simultaneous increase in the electrical conductivity and the Seebeck coefficient along with decrease in the thermal conductivity. Consequently, a high power factor of similar to 43 mu W cm(-1) K-2 and a high ZT > 1.1 at 323 K are achieved. Our current synthetic method can be used to produce a new family of materials with novel physical and chemical characteristics for various applications.</P>

Sanghwa Park,Akira Yokota,Takashi Itoh,박진숙 한국미생물학회 2011 The journal of microbiology Vol.49 No.2
A Gram-negative, non-motile, rod shaped, and orange-pigmented chemoheterotrophic bacterium, strain MS-31^T was isolated from the marine sponge Hymeniacidon flavia, collected from near Jeju Island, Korea. The Strain MS-31^T was subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic study. The phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the novel isolate could be affiliated within the genus Sphingomonas. The strain MS-31^T showed 95.6% of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with the most closely related species Sphingomonas koreensis JSS26T. The DNA G+C content of the strain MS-31^T was 69.4 mol%. The major isoprenoid quinone was ubiqunone 10 and predominant cellular fatty acids were summed feature 7 (comprising C_(18:1) ω7c, C_(18:1) ω9t and/or C_(18:1) ω12t, 39.7%), C_(16:0) (16.3%), C_(14:0) 2OH (15.9%) and summed feature 3(comprising C_(16:1) ω7c and/or C_(15:0) iso 2OH, 11.7%). The polar lipids were sphingoglycolipid, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol and unidentified glycolipid. Based on the evidence from the polyphasic taxonomic study, the strain should be classified as a new species of the genus Sphingomonas. As a result, the name Sphingomonas jejuensis sp. nov. (type strain MS-31^T =KCTC 23321^T =NBRC 107775^T)is proposed.
Delayed postpartum regression of theca lutein cysts with maternal virilization: A case report
Sanghwa Kim,Inha Lee,Eunhyang Park,Yeo Jin Rhee,Kyeongmin Kim,Aminah Ibrahim Aljassim,Joo Hyun Park,Jae Hoon Lee,Bo Hyon Yun,Seok Kyo Seo,Sihyun Cho,Young Sik Choi,Byung Seok Lee 대한생식의학회 2021 Clinical and Experimental Reproductive Medicine Vol.48 No.4
Theca lutein cysts are rare, benign lesions responsible for gross cystic enlargement of both ovaries during pregnancy. This condition is also termed hyperreactio luteinalis. Elevated human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels or states of hCG hypersensitivity seem to promote these changes, which in up to 30% of patients produce clinical signs of hyperandrogenism. Given the self-limiting course of theca lutein cysts, which are subject to spontaneous postpartum resolution, conservative treatment is the mainstay of patient management. Described herein is a rare case of theca lutein cysts with maternal virilization that failed to regress by 9 months after childbirth. Surgical intervention was eventually undertaken, necessitated by adnexal torsion.

A gram-negative, motile, coccoid- and amorphous-shaped, non-pigmented chemoheterotrophic bacterium, designated strain PZ-5^T, was isolated from sea water of Sagami Bay in Japan and subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic study. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the novel isolate could be affiliated with the class Gammaproteobacteria. Strain PZ-5^T showed below 93.9% similarity with validly published bacteria and demonstrated the highest sequence similarity to Dasania marina KOPRI 20902^T (93.9%). Strain PZ-5^T formed a monophyletic group with D. marina KOPRI 20902^T. The DNA G+C content of strain PZ-5^T was 49.8 mol%. The major isoprenoid quinone was Q-8 and predominant cellular fatty acids were C_(15:0) ISO 2OH (19%), C_(16:1) ω7c (17.4%), C_(17:1) ω8c (16.2%), C_(11:0) 3OH (7.5%), and C_(15:1)ω8c (6.5%). Based on evidence from a polyphasic taxonomical study, it was concluded that the strain should be classified as representing a new genus and species of the class Gammaproteobacteria, for which the name Oceanicoccus sagamiensis gen. nov., sp. nov., (type strain PZ-5^T =NBRC 107125^T =KCTC 23278^T) is proposed.
GOLGA2 loss causes fibrosis with autophagy in the mouse lung and liver
Park, Sungjin,Kim, Sanghwa,Kim, Min Jung,Hong, Youngeun,Lee, Ah Young,Lee, Hyunji,Tran, Quangdon,Kim, Minhee,Cho, Hyeonjeong,Park, Jisoo,Kim, Kwang Pyo,Park, Jongsun,Cho, Myung-Haing Elsevier 2018 Biochemical and biophysical research communication Vol.495 No.1
<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Autophagy is a biological recycling process via the self-digestion of organelles, proteins, and lipids for energy-consuming differentiation and homeostasis. The Golgi serves as a donor of the double-membraned phagophore for autophagosome assembly. In addition, recent studies have demonstrated that pulmonary and hepatic fibrosis is accompanied by autophagy. However, the relationships among Golgi function, autophagy, and fibrosis are unclear. Here, we show that the deletion of <I>GOLGA2</I>, encoding a cis-Golgi protein, induces autophagy with Golgi disruption. The induction of autophagy leads to fibrosis along with the reduction of subcellular lipid storage (lipid droplets and lamellar bodies) by autophagy in the lung and liver. <I>GOLGA2</I> knockout mice clearly demonstrated fibrosis features such as autophagy-activated cells, densely packed hepatocytes, increase of alveolar macrophages, and decrease of alveolar surfactant lipids (dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine). Therefore, we confirmed the associations among Golgi function, fibrosis, and autophagy. Moreover, <I>GOLGA2</I> knockout mice may be a potentially valuable animal model for studying autophagy-induced fibrosis.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> GOLGA2/GM130 loss induces autophagy with Golgi disruption in liver cells and transgenic mice. </LI> <LI> GOLGA2/GM130 loss leads to degradation of lipid structures (LBs and LDs) by autophagy. </LI> <LI> GOLGA2/GM130 loss causes liver and lung fibrosis. </LI> </UL> </P>

In this paper, we propose a neural network that has improved convergence performance based on redundancy modification in the multi-layer perceptron. The algorithm adjusts continuously weight in the limited learning condition. And the neural networks is learned by the sign of the modified weight. The simulation results show that the proposed learning method is faster than the general back-error propagation method in convergence speed.
