Efficient Unlinkable Secret Handshakes for Anonymous Communications

        Eun-Kyung Ryu1,Kee-Young Yoo,Keum-Sook Ha 보안공학연구지원센터(JSE) 2010 보안공학연구논문지 Vol.7 No.6

The technique of secret handshake is used as a fundamental building block for anonymous peer-to-peer communications over untrusted networks. However, the fact that most existing schemes fail to meet unlinkability causes the use of schemes to limit for practical use. In this paper, we provide new constructions for unlinkable secret handshake, allowing arbitrary two communication parties with the same role in either one single group or multiple groups to privately authenticate each other. Compared to previous works, our techniques have much better performance in terms of both computational and communication cost, while they obtain good security results.

      • 단일 기관에서 경험한 소아청소년기 Kikuchi-Fujimoto병의 임상적 고찰

강희원,김한울,이소영,유경하,김혜순,유은선,최희정,김경효 이화여자대학교 의과학연구소 2018 EMJ (Ewha medical journal) Vol.41 No.4

Objectives: Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) is characterized by lymphadenopathy and fever, and is usually self-limited. This study analyzed the clinical characteristics of pediatric patients with KFD. Methods: This retrospective, observational, single-center study was conducted in South Korea from March 2008 to October 2015. KFD was diagnosed based on clinical, radiological or histological findings and excluded when there were any other causes of lymphadenopathy. Medical records were reviewed for clinical and laboratory manifestations. Results: A total of 35 cases were included. The mean patient age was 12.1±2.9 years (range, 5 to 17 years); the male-to-female ratio was 1:0.8. The main clinical manifestations were cervical lymphadenopathy and fever in 34 cases (97%). The mean duration of fever was 12.2±8.3 days (range, 2 to 37 days). We noted enlargement of lymph nodes in the cervical, mesenteric (n=5, 14%), axillary (n=2, 6%), and inguinal (n=1, 3%) regions. Hepatosplenomegaly, loss of appetite, and rash were observed. On laboratory examinations, elevation of ferritin, leukopenia, and positivity for anti-nuclear antibodies were frequently observed. Twelve patients underwent biopsy and 23 cases were diagnosed by radiological findings. The mean duration of hospitalization for all cases was 7.9±2.9 days (range, 3 to 13 days) and steroids were administered in 10 cases. KFD recurrence was observed in 2 cases (5.7%) with the time to relapse of 7 months and 4 years. There were no cases with systemic lupus erythematous or other autoimmune disease. Conclusion: KFD should be considered in pediatric patients with lymphadenopathy and prolonged fever. Patients with KFD should be monitored for recurrence and the development of autoimmune disease.

A Study on the Equipotent Switching Direct Current Potential Drop Method for the Monitoring of Piping Thinning

Ryu, Kyung Ha,Lee, Na Young,Hwang, Il Soon Trans Tech Publications, Ltd. 2007 Key Engineering Materials Vol.345-346 No.-

Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) has become a hot issue because of aging of passive components. Ultrasonic Technique (UT) has been adopted to inspect the secondary piping. UT, however, covers only narrow region, which results in numerous detecting points and thus takes time. In this paper, we suggested a Wide Range Monitoring (WiRM) concept with Equipotent Switching Direct Current Potential Drop (S-DCPD) method to monitor the thickness of piping. Since the DCPD method covers area, not a point, it needs less monitoring points. We use the SDCPD method to screen the candidate area to monitor. Based on the monitoring results, we can determine the inspection area. To improve the applicability to the piping system, we suggested the Equipotent concept, which eliminates the leakage current. Finite element analysis results and developed resistance model are presented for the simple analysis to describe the wall thinning by DCPD signals. And also validation test results are presented, from which we can identify the consistency of the model and the experiment.

Hepatocyte Growth Factor is the Key Cytokine in Stimulating Potential Stem Cells in the Cord Blood into Hepatic Lineage Cells

        Ryu, Kyung-Ha,Cho, Su-Jin,Woo, So-Youn,Seoh, Ju-Young,Jung, Yun-Jae,Han, Ho-Seong The Korean Association of Immunobiologists 2007 Immune Network Vol.7 No.3

Background: This study was designed to investigate the role of the hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) with regards to differentiation of somatic stem cells originating from the human umbilical cord blood (UCB) into hepatic lineage cells in vitro culture system. Methods: Mononuclear cells from UCB were cultured with and without HGF based on the fibroblast growth factor (FGF)-1, FGF-2, and stem cell factor. The cultured cells were confirmed by immunofluorescent staining analysis with albumin (ALB), cytokeratin-19 (CK-19), and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) MoAb. ALB and CK-18 mRNA were also evaluated by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. In order to observe changes in proliferating capacity with respect to the cultured period, CFSE with affinity to proliferating cells were tagged and later underwent flow cytometry. Results: In the HGF-treated group, cultured cells had a large oval shaped appearance with adherent, but easily detachable characteristics. In the HGF-non treated group, these cells were spindle-shaped with strong adherent characteristics. Expressions of ALB and CK-19 were evident in HGF-treated group compared to non-expression of those in to HGF-non treated group. Dual immunostaining analysis of the ALB producing cells showed presence of PCNA in their nuclei, and ALB and CK-18 mRNA were detected on the 21st day of cultured cells in the HGF-treated group. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that HGF has a pivotal role in differentiating somatic stem cells of human UCB into hepatic lineage cells in vitro.

      • Natural circulation characteristics under various conditions on heavy liquid metal test loop

Ryu, Kyung Ha,Ban, Byoung Min,Lee, Tae Hyun,Lee, Jeonghyeon,Lee, Sang Huk,Cho, Jae Hyun,Ko, Sung-ho,Kim, Ji Hyun Elsevier 2018 International journal of thermal sciences Vol.132 No.-

Abstract

In advanced small modular reactors, a natural circulation system with liquid metal is preferred, as it offers enhanced safety features, simplicity of reactor design, and is economical with respect to construction. A natural circulation system also provides potential non-proliferation benefits to the international community. To test lead-bismuth eutectic as a liquid metal coolant, we have studied its natural circulation characteristics. We present the results of experiments on natural circulation conducted in a full-height scale test loop for varying core power, heat exchanger coolant oil temperature, and bubble injection rate. The experiments on the liquid metal were conducted under core power source conditions ranging from 2.5 kW to 15 kW. The aim of this experiment was to study natural circulation under various conditions. With our demonstration facility-based technology, we plan to verify small modular reactor cooling system safety and the technology of the bubble injection system that has been developed for liquid metal flow devices.

Graphical abstract

Liquid metal fast breeder reactors such as the sodium-cooled fast reactor and the lead-cooled fast reactor are candidates for GEN-IV nuclear energy systems. The advantages of the fast reactor design come from using liquid metal as the coolant. Small modular reactors are ideal for providing electricity to countries, offer a comparatively low initial capital investment, and offer flexibility for locations previously unable to accommodate nuclear reactors. A natural circulation system also provides potential non-proliferation benefits to the international community. The tests on liquid metal natural circulation were carried out on the liquid metal loop. Experimental studies on the isothermal natural circulation of the liquid metal were conducted in an integral test loop system, under steady state, and at varying core power source conditions ranging from 2.5 kW to 15 kW. The mass flow rate of the LBE increased rapidly from 0 to 0.36 kg/s over 500 s, and, as the core power increased, the mass flow rate of the LBE in the riser increased. As the oil temperature of the heat exchanger decreased, the temperature of the LBE also decreased. Because the temperature difference between the hot and cold legs was maintained, the mass flow rate was not affected. As the bubble injection rate was increased, the mass flow rate of the LBE in the riser also increased.

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

      • Human tonsil-derived mesenchymal stromal cells enhanced myelopoiesis in a mouse model of allogeneic bone marrow transplantation

        Ryu, Jung-Hwa,Park, Minhwa,Kim, Bo-Kyung,Kim, Yu-Hee,Woo, So-Youn,Ryu, Kyung-Ha D.A. Spandidos 2016 MOLECULAR MEDICINE REPORTS Vol. No.

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) have therapeutic potential for repairing tissue damage and are involved in immune regulation. MSCs are predominantly isolated from bone marrow (BM), adipose tissue or placental tissue. Further to these well-known sources, the isolation of MSCs from human tonsils was previously reported. The aim of the present study was to investigate a potential role for tonsil-derived MSCs (T-MSCs) in BM reconstitution and application towards supplementing hematopoiesis in a mouse model of BM transplantation (BMT). Eight-week-old BALB/c female mice received 80 mg/kg busulfan (Bu)/200 mg/kg cyclophosphamide (Cy) conditioning chemotherapy for BM ablation. Subsequently, human T-MSCs were injected into the Bu/Cy-treated mice with or without BM cells (BMCs) obtained from allogeneic C57BL/6 male mice. After 3 weeks, peripheral blood and BM was collected for analysis. The red blood cell count in the group that received BMCs had almost returned to normal, whereas mononuclear cell counts and BM cellularity were most improved in the T-MSCs + BMCs group. These results indicate that the T-MSCs enhanced myelopoiesis in the allogeneic BMT mouse model, as evidenced by the restoration of BM with hematopoietic cells, as well as increased myeloid colony formation in vitro. Therefore, T-MSCs may provide a source of MSCs to facilitate myelopoiesis and megakaryocytosis following BMT.

Superoxide and Nitric Oxide Involvement in Enhancing of N-methyl-D-aspartate Receptor-Mediated Central Sensitization in the Chronic Post-ischemia Pain Model

        Ryu, Tae-Ha,Jung, Kyung-Young,Ha, Mi-Jin,Kwak, Kyung-Hwa,Lim, Dong-Gun,Hong, Jung-Gil The Korean Pain Society 2010 The Korean Journal of Pain Vol.23 No.1

Background: Recent studies indicate that reactive oxygen species (ROS) are involved in persistent pain, including neuropathic and inflammatory pain. Since the data suggest that ROS are involved in central sensitization, the present study examines the levels of activated N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors in the dorsal horn after an exogenous supply of three antioxidants in rats with chronic post-ischemia pain (CPIP). This serves as an animal model of complex regional pain syndrome type-I induced by hindpaw ischemia/reperfusion injury. Methods: The application of tight-fitting O-rings for a period of three hours produced CPIP in male Sprague-Dawley rats. Allopurinol 4 mg/kg, allopurinol 40 mg/kg, superoxide dismutase (SOD) 4,000 U/kg, N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) 10 mg/kg and SOD 4,000 U/kg plus L-NAME 10 mg/kg were administered intraperitoneally just after O-ring application and on the first and second days after reperfusion. Mechanical allodynia was measured, and activation of the NMDA receptor subunit 1 (pNR1) of the lumbar spinal cord (L4-L6) was analyzed by the Western blot three days after reperfusion. Results: Allopurinol reduced mechanical allodynia and attenuated the enhancement of spinal pNR1 expression in CPIP rats. SOD and L-NAME also blocked spinal pNR1 in accordance with the reduced mechanical allodynia in rats with CPIP. Conclusions: The present data suggest the contribution of superoxide, produced via xanthine oxidase, and the participation of superoxide and nitric oxide as a precursor of peroxynitrite in NMDA mediated central sensitization. Finally, the findings support a therapeutic potential for the manipulation of superoxide and nitric oxide in ischemia/reperfusion related pain conditions.
