      • A nonNMDA antagonist, GYKI 52466 improves microscopic O₂balance in the cortex during focal cerebral ischemia

        Chi, Oak Z.,Chang, Qiang,Wang, Guolin,Liu, Xia,Harvey R. Weiss 경희대학교 동서의학연구소 1999 INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON EAST-WEST MEDICINE Vol.1999 No.1

Oak Z.Chi,Qiang Chang, Guolin Wang*, Xia Liu, Harvey R. Weiss□.Deprtments of Anesthesai, Departments of Physiology and Biophysics, University of Medicne and Dentisrty of New Jersey,Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA and*Department of Anesthesia, Medical University, Tianjing, People's Republic of China. A non-NMDA antagonist, GYKI 52466 improves microscopic O² balance in the cortex during focal cerebral ischemia. Proceedings of International Symposium on East-West Medicine, Seoul. 172-182, 1999.-This study was performed to test whether GYKI 52466, a non-NMDA receptor antagonist, would improve microregional oxygen supply and consumption balance in the focal cerebral ischemic area. Rats were anesthetized with 1.4% isoflurance. For the GYKI Group (n=8), 19 min before middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion, a bolus of 5mg/kg of GYKI 52466 iv was administered and was followed by an infusion of 5mg/kg/hr. For the control Group(n=8), the same volume of the vehicle was administered. One hour after MCA occlusion, regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) was measured using the 14C-iodoantipyrine autoradiographic technique. Microscopic arterial and venous oxygen saturations were determined using microspectrophotometry. In the cortex contralateral to MCA occlusion, the average rCBF and the average O² consumption were lower in the GYKI Group than in the Control Group (rCBF:GYKI 65.5±24.1, Control 97.7 33.4ml/100g/min;O² consumption: GYKI3.9±1.2, Control 6.2±2.5ml O²/100g/min) without a significant difference in the number of veins with SvO²<50%. In the ischemic cortex, the number of veins with SvO²<50% was significantly smaller in the GYKI Group (21 veins out of 63)than in the Control Group(45 out of 59)without a significant difference in the average rCBF(GYKI44.9±17.7, Control 29.7±10.4) or regional O² consumption between these two groups (GYKI 3.3±1.4,Control 27.7±1.2). Our data demonstrated that GYKI 52466 was effective in improving microscopic O² balance in the focal ischemic cortical area of the brain and it decreased O² consumption in the non-ischemic cortex. • Analysis on Early Detection of Lung Cancer by PET/CT Scan

Wang, Huo-Qiang,Zhao, Long,Zhao, Juan,Wang, Qiang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.6

Background: This systemic analysis was conducted to to evaluate the application value of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in early diagnosis of lung cancer. Methods: Clinical studies evaluating the application value of PET/CT for patients underwent PET/CT imaging. The histological diagnosis served as the standard of truth. Results: Four clinical studies which including 1330 patients with pulmonary spaceoccupying lesions were considered eligible for inclusion. Systemic analysis suggested that, in all 1330 patients, pooled sensitivity was 98.7% (1313.2/1330) and specificity was 58.2%(276.85/476). Conclusion: This systemic analysis suggests that integrated PET/CT imaging provides high sensitivity, and reasonably high specificity, and could be applied for early diagnosis of lung cancer.

      • Association study of vitamin E content in rice using whole genome re-sequencing

        Xiao-Qiang Wang,Qiang He,Wei Tong,Byung-Kook Yun,Young-Sang Lee,Tae-Sung Kim,Chang-Yong Lee,Yong-Jin Park 한국육종학회 2014 한국육종학회 심포지엄 Vol.2014 No.07

Rice is the major food for half of the world population. The nutrition component in rice is critical for improvement of people’s health. Vitamin E serves as important antioxidant by quenching the free radical intermediates and thus protects the cell membrane. Because of the high nutritional value and the benefits of vitamin E in human health, increasing the tocochromanol content of major agricultural crops has long been in the focus of breeding programs and genetic engineering approaches. The key genes involved in tocopherol biosynthesis have been elucidated in Arabidopsis and other model organisms. Quantitative trait locus (QTL) study performed in Arabidopsis suggested that some of these key genes and a few additional loci contribute to natural tocopherol variations. Identifying such genetic variations in rice, enrich our understanding of the genetic mechanisms controlling tocopherol variation, which can be directly applied to rice breeding programs. In this study, we used genome-wide association mapping with high-resolution density SNPs of rice core set to identify natural allelic variations, which contribute to tocopherol increase in rice

      • A chloroplast variation map generated using whole genome re-sequencing of Korean landrace rice reveals phylogenetic relationships among Oryza sativa subspecies

        Wei Tong,Qiang He,Xiao-Qiang Wang,Min-Young Yoon,Won-Hee Ra,Feng Peng Li,Jie Yu,Win Htet Oo,Sun-Kyung Min,Buung Choi,Eun-Beom Heo,Byoung-Kook Yun,Kyu-Won Kim,Tae-Sung Kim,Chang-Yong Lee,Yong-Jin Park 한국육종학회 2015 한국육종학회 심포지엄 Vol.2015 No.07

Although the overall structure of the chloroplast genome is generally conserved, a number of sequence variations have been identified, which are valuable for plant population and evolutionary studies. Here, we constructed a chloroplast variation map of 30 landrace rice strains of Korean origin, using the Oryza rufipogon chloroplast genome (Genbank: NC_017835) as a reference. Differential distribution of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and indels across the rice chloroplast genome is suggestive of a region-specific variation. Population structure clustering revealed the existence of two clear subgroups (indica and japonica) and an admixture group (aus). Phylogenetic analysis of the 30 landrace rice strains and six rice chloroplast references suggested and supported independent evolution of O. sativa indica and japonica. Interestingly, two “aus” type accessions, which were thought to be indica type, shared a closer relationship with the japonica type. One hypothesis is that “Korean aus” was intentionally introduced and may have obtained japonica chloroplasts during cultivation. We also calculated the nucleotide diversity of 30 accessions and compared to six rice chloroplast references, which shown a higher diversity in the indica and aus groups than in the japonica group in lower level substitution diversity.

      • Galectin-9 Acts as a Prognostic Factor with Antimetastatic Potential in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

        Zhang, Zhao-Yang,Dong, Jia-Hong,Chen, Yong-Wei,Wang, Xian-Qiang,Li, Chong-Hui,Wang, Jian,Wang, Guo-Qiang,Li, Hai-Lin,Wang, Xue-Dong Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.6

Considerable research has been conducted concerning galectin-9 and carcinomas, but little information is available about any relation with the hepatocellular carcinoma. In this study, we employed a small interfering RNA (siRNA) targeting galectin-9 to down-regulate the expression in HepG2 cells. As a result, after galectin-9 expression was reduced, cell aggregation was suppressed, while other behaviour such as the proliferation, adhesion and invasion to ECM, cell-endothelial adhesion and transendothelial invasion of the cells were markedly enhanced. When tumors of 200 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma were tested for galectin-9 expression by immunohistochemistry, binding levels demonstrated intimate correlations with the histopathologic grade, lymph node metastasis, vascular invasion and intrahepatic metastasis (P<0.05). Moreover, survival analysis indicated that patients with galectin-9 expression had much longer survival time than those with negative lesions, and the Log-rank test indicated that this difference was statistical significant (P<0.0001). The Cox proportional hazards model suggested that negative galectin-9 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma represented a significant risk factor for patient survival. We propose that galectin-9 might be a new prognostic factor with antimetastatic potential in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.

      • A Trust Game Model and Algorithm for Cooperative Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Radio Networks

Wang Zhendong,Wang Huiqiang,Zhu Qiang 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Future Generation Communi Vol.8 No.3

The existence of malicious secondary users will bring damage to the performance of cooperative spectrum sensing and spectrum access in cognitive radio networks, so effectively curbing malicious behavior of secondary users become the key to success for cooperative spectrum sensing mechanism. Inspired by economics of repeated game theory, a trust game model and algorithm of distributed cooperative spectrum sensing oriented to malicious secondary users named FRTrust is proposed. In FRTrust, the reputation status is used to describe the performance of a secondary user in cooperative spectrum sensing process. It encourages secondary users to choose positive and honest behavior strategies for greater and long term benefits. Simultaneously, a ‘differentiation’ punishment mechanism is presented to respond malicious behaviors of secondary users. By this way, the ‘first offender’ secondary users and the ‘recidivist' secondary users can be distinguished effectively. If a secondary user departs from the normal times in its life period, it will be punished superimposed. Simulation results show that the FRTrust algorithm can encourage secondary users to participate in spectrum sensing in a cooperative attitude, improve the transaction success ratio of cooperative spectrum sensing, and guarantee the fairness and spectrum access performance for cognitive radio networks.

Numerical Investigation on Electromagnetism and Heat Transfer in Electroslag Remelting Process with Triple- Electrode

QIANG WANG,Fengsheng Qi,Fang Wang,Baokuan Li 한국정밀공학회 2015 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.

A transient three-dimensional (3D) model is developed for understanding the electromagnetism, heat transfer and phase change in electroslag remelting (ESR) furnace with triple-electrode. The electromagnetic fields are solved by Maxwell’s equations using the finite element method. The temperature field and phase change are modeled by the enthalpy approach. A reasonable agreement is obtained between experiment and simulation. The electric current flows from one electrode into the slag and comes out from other two electrodes. Most electric current travels through the slag near the slag/ingot interface. A great amount of the Joule heating is generated by the slag and a higher value is found in the slag around the three electrodes. The highest temperature is located at the center of the slag layer. Increase in the current causes the increase in the Joule heating. A hotter slag and a deeper metal pool therefore are formed. The total Joule heating in the slag increases with more slag, while the average Joule heating density reduces. The metal pool depth increases and then decreases with the increasing slag thickness, and the deepest metal pool is obtained at the slag thickness of 200 mm. The power efficiency and the slag temperature reduce with the increasing electrode immersion depth. A shallower electrode immersion depth is a better choice for the ESR process with triple-electrode.

        Wang, Zhi-Jun,Wang, Mao-Qiang,Duan, Feng,Song, Peng,Liu, Feng-Yong,Wang, Yan,Yan, Jie-Yu,Li, Kai,Yuan, Kai Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.3

Objective: This work aimed to evaluate the safety and clinical efficacy of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) combined with c-arm cone-beam CT guided synchronous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in treatment of large hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: 21 patients with large HCC were studied from January 2010 to March 2012. TACE combined with synchronous C-arm cone-beam CT guided RFA were performed on a total of 25 lesions. Conventional imaging examination (CEUS, enhanced CT or MRI) and AFP detection were regularly conducted to evaluate the technical success rate of combined treatment, complications, treatment response, time without disease recurrence and survival rate. Results: The technical success rate of combined treatment was 100%, without any significant complication. After 1 month, there were 19 cases with complete response and 2 cases with partial response, with an complete response rate of 90.4% (19/21) and a clinical effective rate of 100% (21/21). The complete response rates of single nodular lesions (100%, 17/17) was significantly higher than that of multiple nodular lesions (50%, 2/4) (P<0. 05). During 2 to 28 months of follow-up, in 19 cases with complete response, the average time without disease recurrence was $10.8{\pm}6$ months. The total survival rates of 6, 12 and 18 months in 21 patients were 100%, respectively. Conclusion: TACE combined with synchronous C-arm CT guided RFA is safe and effective for treatment of large HCC. The treatment efficacy for single nodular lesion is better than that for multiple nodular lesions.

Effect of Solidified Slag on Magnetohydrodynamic Flow and Heat Transfer in Electroslag Remelting Process

QIANG WANG,Baokuan Li 한국정밀공학회 2015 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.

A transient three-dimensional (3D) model has been developed to investigate the impact of the solidified slag on the heat transfer and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow during the electroslag remelting process. The solution of the mass, momentum, and energy conservation equations are simultaneously implemented by the finite volume method with full coupling of the Joule heating and Lorentz force through solving the Maxwell’s equations. The solidification is modeled by an enthalpy-based technique. A reasonable agreement is obtained between the experiment and simulation. The results definitely highlight that the solidified slag skin does not behave as a perfect electrical insulator during the process. The electrical insulation hypothesis of the solidified slag makes a significant influence on physical fields which must be used with extreme care.
