In a line heating process for hull forming, the phase of the steel transforms from austenite to martensite, bainite, ferrite, or pearlite depending on the actual speed of cooling following line heating. In order to simulate the water cooling process widely used in shipyards, a heat transfer analysis on the effects of impinging water jet, film boiling, and radiation was performed. From the above simulation it was possible to obtain the actual speed of cooling and volume percentage of each phase in the inherent strain region of a line heated steel plate. Based on the material properties calculated from the volume percentage of each phase, it should be possible to predict the plate deformations due to line heating with better precision. Compared to the line heating experimental results, the simulated water cooling process method was verified to improve the predictability of the plate deformation due to line heating.
Study on Scheduling Algorithm for High-Power Short Message Delivery via Multiple Non-GSO Satellites

Global short message delivery services via satellites are considered attractive if the service can be supported to indoor subscribers. In order to establish the communications link, it is required to concentrate high transmission power into a spotbeam even by a Non-GSO satellite system with low Earth orbits. The idea can be realized by a kind of TDMA scheme where only a single spotbeam per satellite is fired at a timeslot in an efficiently scheduled manner. The paper proposes a scheduling algorithm that enables each satellite to concentrate its power into a spotbeam illuminating an addressed area at a prescribed timeslot, while causing no interference with other spotbeams from adjacent satellites, so that a subscriber in the area can easily establish the synchronization and efficiently receive a message addressed to him or her. Some numerical evaluations are given for a 6-hour period MEO system, for example, to demonstrate the effectiveness and performances.

Mobile devices are being widely used to access Internet contents. However, most available web pages are designed for desktop computers and consequently it is inconvenient to browse large web pages on mobile devices with small screen. Text identification is a process to extract texts from the body of a web page, which are then displayed in a comfortable way for reading. In this paper, we propose a text extraction scheme and discuss its implementation.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and aggressive type of primary brain neoplasm. The current standard therapy for GBM consists of maximal surgical resection within safe limits, followed by radiation therapy (RT) and chemotherapy with temozolomide. Despite advances in treatment, the prognosis of GBM remains poor. Epileptic seizure is one of the most common symptoms in patients with GBM. Valproic acid (VPA), a histone deacetylase inhibitor, is often used as an anti-epileptic drug in patients with brain neoplasms due to its effectiveness and low toxicity profile. Several in vivo and in vitro studies have indicated that VPA has radiosensitizing effects for gliomas and radioprotective influence on normal brain tissue or hippocampal neurons. The results of several retrospective studies have also indicated potential benefit to improve survival of patients with GBM. Moreover, the promising treatment results of a phase 2 trial of concurrent radiation therapy, temozolomide, and VPA for patients with GBM have been recently reported. The use of VPA in patients with GBM has thus recently receiving more attention. In this article, we review the role of VPA in radiation therapy for GBM, focusing on the clinical evidence.

Prostate cancer is the secondary most frequently diagnosed cancer in the world. Although numerous prospective randomized trial have been conducted to guide the management of patients with localized or locally advanced prostate cancer, few clinical trials targeting node-positive prostate cancer have been reported. Therefore, there are still controversies in the optimal management of node-positive prostate cancer. Recently, efficacy of multimodality treatment, including radiation therapy (RT), for such patients has been reported in several articles. The results indicate potential benefit of RT both in adjuvant therapy after prostatectomy and in definitive therapy for node-positive prostate cancer. The aim in this article was to summarize the current evidence for RT and evaluate the role in multimodality treatment for patients with node-positive prostate cancer.

This paper describes a basic method to estimate satellite-transmitting power to compensate for rain attenuation by an advanced broadcast satellite system in which a beam steering antenna is employed for rain attenuation compensation. A method to estimate the mode of peak rain attenuation in a certain 10-minute-rainfall is proposed in this paper. Satellite-transmitting power needed to compensate for rain attenuation by use of 10-minute-rainfall data collected from about 1300 points in Japan is estimated. As a result, it is shown that an additional satellite transmitting power of about 1000 W with plural boosted beams, which are about 100km in diameter, might be able to compensate for most of rain attenuation events on Ku band in Japan.
Optimum Traffic Distribution Algorithm for Satellite System Taking Account of Satellite Power Limit

In satellite communications systems, satellite transmitting power (in short, 'satellite power') is one of the critical radio resources for satellite systems, as well as spectrum resources, due to the limited ability of onboard electric generator. Therefore, for attaining optimum satellite radio resource utilization, it is not enough to just consider the spectrum resources but also to take account of the satellite power. In multiple satellites systems, the coverage of a satellite has overlapping areas with those of adjacent satellites. In this case, the traffic demand in overlapping area can be accommodated by either of visible satellites. For these systems, this paper proposes an algorithm to provide an optimum traffic distribution among satellites. The algorithm adopts linear programming model considering satellite power limits. Numerical examples demonstrate that the proposed algorithms contribute to maximizing the system capacity.
Hydrolysis of Biopex-R-allografts cement and the osteoblastic response to the cement

A composite of clinically used Biopex-R and allografts was hydrolyzed in calf serum to obtain hydroxyapatite (HAP), while Biopex-R was hydrolyzed in calf serum to obtain octacalcium phosphate (OCP) and HAP. The products from Biopex-Rallografts composite as well as the Biopex-R exhibited rough surfaces. After the hydrolysis, MC3T3-E1 cells were cultured on the Biopex-R-allografts composite. Adherence of cells on Biopex-R-allografts composite is greater in number than on the Biopex-R. The composition of the resulting products affected the cell growth.
