Histone modifications have been demonstrated to play a significant role in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) epigenetic regulation. An in-silico analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) of various histone acetyl transferases (HATs) and histone deacetylases (HDACs) suggested that HATs do not differ between normal and tumor samples whereas HDAC2 and HDAC1 change maximally and marginally respectively between normal and tumor patients with no change being noted in HDAC6 expression. Hence, this investigation was carried out to validate the expression states of HDAC 1, 2 and 6 mRNAs in buccal mucosa and tongue SCC samples in an Indian cohort. Buccal mucosa and tongue squamous cell carcinoma tissues with intact histopathology were processed for RNA isolation followed by cDNA synthesis which was then subjected to q-PCR for HDACs. The average RNA yield of the tongue tissue sample was ∼2 mg/mg of tissue and the A260/280 ratios were between 2.03 and 2.06. The average RNA yield of buccal mucosa tissue sample was ∼1 mg/mg of tissue and the A260/280 ratio were between 2.00 and 2.08. We have demonstrated that HDAC2 was overexpressed in tongue and buccal mucosa samples. Over-expression of HDAC2 imply potential use of HDACi along with standard chemotherapeutic drug in oral cancer treatment.
Carotid Artery Stenting and Its Impact on Cognitive Function: A Prospective Observational Study
Gupta Avinash N,Bhatti Amit A,Shah Mudasir M,Mahajan Niranjan P,Sadana Divya K,Huded Vikram 대한신경중재치료의학회 2020 Neurointervention Vol.15 No.2
Purpose: Carotid artery stenting (CAS) has evolved as a first-line therapeutic option for carotid revascularization in indicated patients for stroke prevention, but there is still a lack of data on its effect on cognitive function (CF), especially among Indian patients. To determine the effect of CAS on CF and to study the immediate and delayed complications of CAS in Indian patients.Materials and Methods: This was a prospective, observational, single-center study. CF was assessed using Addenbrooke’s cognitive examination version III (ACE) before and 3 months after stenting. The demographic and clinical parameters were also assessed. A follow-up evaluation after 3 months was done to compare CF and to observe the occurrence of any complications. Results: Out of 31 patients, 3 were lost to follow up. There were no immediate or delayed procedure-related complications. There was a statistically significant improvement in overall ACE score and memory before and after stenting. On subgroup analysis of those with and without strokes, there was a significant improvement in visuospatial function and mean ACE score. Those with left CAS had significant improvement in memory, visuospatial, language, and ACE scores than right CAS.Conclusion: CAS was associated with significant improvement in CF in patients.
New prospective approaches in controlling the insect infestation in stored grains
Ahmad Mir Shabir,Bashir Mir Mudasir,Ahmad Shah Manzoor,Mumtaz Hamdani Afshan,Valiyapeediyekkal Sunooj Kappat,Phimolsiripol Yuthana,Mousavi Khaneghah Amin 한국응용곤충학회 2023 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.26 No.2
After harvest, food grains are kept in storage facilities for longer periods. Grain infestation during storage causes a significant loss in quality and market value. Various chemical methods have been implemented to control insect infestation in stored grains. However, the chemical fumigants for insects have been limited due to the resistance of insects, environmental concerns, and adverse effects on human health. Therefore, there is a need for viable alternatives for insect disinfestation, which can be residue-free and acceptable at the national and international markets. The new techniques used in the grain industry for insect control during storage gave promising results with high mortality. New methods, such as cold plasma, are becoming a safer tool for the disinfestation of stored grains. The new techniques are rapid and can be applied to bulk material without affecting the quality of grains.
Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Breast Cancer: A Clinical Review and Update
Sheikh Zahoor,Altaf Haji,Azhar Battoo,Mariya Qurieshi,Wahid Mir,Mudasir Shah 한국유방암학회 2017 Journal of breast cancer Vol.20 No.3
Sentinel lymph node biopsy has become a standard staging tool in the surgical management of breast cancer. The positive impact of sentinel lymph node biopsy on postoperative negative outcomes in breast cancer patients, without compromising the oncological outcomes, is its major advantage. It has evolved over the last few decades and has proven its utility beyond early breast cancer. Its applicability and efficacy in patients with clinically positive axilla who have had a complete clinical response after neoadjuvant chemotherapy is being aggressively evaluated at present. This article discusses how sentinel lymph node biopsy has evolved and is becoming a useful tool in new clinical scenarios of breast cancer management.
