        Effect of Reactive Dye Structures and Substituents on Cellulose Fabric Dyeing

        Traditional dyeing of cotton fabrics with reactive dyes has produced many environmental problems. Therefore, itis important to investigate the relationship between dye molecular structures and dyeing properties for cleaner procedures. Here, the properties of five azo-based reactive dyes with different substituents and reactive groups were studied. The dyeshad similar molecular shapes, sizes, and chromophore structures. Differences were in the aromatic rings, the number ofsulfonate groups, and the position of vinyl sulfonate on the benzene ring. The dye substantivity (S%), exhaustion (E%),reactivity (R%), fixation (F%), color strength, salt effects, alkali effects, and color fastness were investigated and analyzed. Different substituents on the dyes had a little effect on the ultraviolet-visible absorption maximum wavelength. In addition,the requirements of salt and alkali to produce the maximum color strength varied for different dye structures. The dyecontaining a naphthalene ring, three sulfonate groups, and a vinyl sulfonate at the para-position of the benzene ring producedthe highest color strength and fixation values. Color fastness was almost the same for each dyed sample, except for the wetrubbingfastness. The results should be useful for developing new dyes and environmentally friendly dyeing techniques.

        Effect of Calcium Chloride on Dyeing Property of Polyamide 66 Based on Reactive Anthraquinone Dyes with Different Structure

        The effect of calcium chloride on dyeing property of polyamide 66 based on reactive anthraquinone dyes withdifferent structures were investigated. The relationship of the structure and properties of the reactive anthraquinone dyes wasdiscussed. Calcium chloride could obviously improve the exhaustion and fixation of the reactive dyes on polyamide 66. Thedyes with more sulfonate groups exhibited obviously sensitive to calcium chloride. Compared with the traditional dyeingmethod, three reactive anthraquinone dyes achieved better building up property and color yields by using calcium chloride atpH value of 7.0. Calcium chloride had obvious dyeing acceleration for polyamide 66. The anthraquinone dye withbifunctional groups could achieve higher exhaustion and excellent fastness on polyamide 66. The mechanism of calciumchloride to exert an influence on dyeing property of polyamide 66 was analyzed. This work is of great significance forimproving dyeing performance of reactive dyes on polyamide fiber.

        Synthesis and Dyeing Properties of New Bi-heterocyclic Disperse Dyes Containing Pyridone Group for Polyester Fabrics

        A series of novel bi-heterocyclic disperse dyes containing N-ethyl-3-cyano-4-methyl-6-hydroxy-2-pyridine groupwere synthesized. The structures of the bi-heterocyclic dyes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-NMR), UV-vis spectrophotometry, and elemental analysis. Thedistinct spectral behavior and solvatochromic effect of the dyes were discussed. The dyeing properties of the dyes forpolyethylene terephthalate (PET) fabric were investigated. Novel bi-heterocyclic disperse dyes had higher molar absorptioncoefficient, good color strength, and excellent fastness properties, especially light fastness. The bi-heterocyclic disperse dyeshave potential research value in the development of high light resistant dyes and functional dyes.

        Photosensitivity Enhancement of Spiropyran-Containing Functional Molecules by Introducing Flexible Spacers and Their Application in Smart Color-Changing Textiles

        Designing photochromic molecules to improve color sensitivity and reversibility of functional materials in the solidifiedstate is still a major challenge. In this work, a series of photochromic molecules containing-spiropyran with different freevolume groups have been designed and synthesized by introducing flexible spacers. The relationship of the photosensitivityand molecular free volume was investigated and the excellent reversible photoswitching molecules in both solution andsolid state were obtained. The photosensitivity of the molecules increased with the increase of molecular free volume. Thephotochromic equilibrium time of the molecule with longer alkyl chain reduced from the 330 s to 60 s, and the recoveringequilibrium time reduced from the 480 s to 40 s. The photosensitivity enhancement mechanism was explained by densityfunctional theory and molecular volume calculations. The designed photochromic molecules were applied to polyesterfabrics. The photochromic materials with excellent photosensitivity and good reversibility were obtained, which exhibitedhigh contrast and sensitive reversible color changes. The photochromic materials have potential applications in the field ofsmart textiles, optical devices, anti-counterfeiting, etc.
