New Corrosion-Resistant Zn-Al-Mg Alloy Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel Sheet

In recent years, Zn-Al-Mg alloy galvanized steel sheets have been widely used as coated steel sheets to support social capital in the infrastructure field. A feature of Zn-Al-Mg alloy-coated steel sheets is that they provide a better corrosion protection period than Zn-coated steel sheets. In this study, the corrosion resistance of a new Zn-Al-Mg alloy-coated steel sheet was investigated and compared to that of conventional commercially available coated steel sheets. The investigation confirmed that increasing the Mg concentration in the Zn-Al-Mg-coated steel sheet improved corrosion resistance, which was more than 10 times that of the galvanized steel sheet specified in JIS G 3302. The study findings also confirmed that the corrosion resistance reached more than twice that of the coated steel sheet specified in JIS G 3323. If such galvanized steel sheets are applied to social infrastructures that are exposed to severely corrosive environments, the service life of the infrastructure might be extended.

Bird Tracking and Flapping Motion Recognition for Monitoring System

Recently, the increasing bird in jury is one of the social problems. To solve this problem, we set our goal to develop the monitoring system. As the first step, we focus the bird tracking and flapping motion recognition both techniques are core technologies of our goal. It is found that Mean Shifttracking based on both the color model and flow model is the most effective to track the target object compared with other wellnown tracking methods, such as, optical flow, color model based Mean Shift, and Particle Filter. We defined three features the flow gradient and two flow features based on the frequency analysis, and proposed the method for recognizing the flapping motion. We collected 70 scenes in cluding the bird’s flying, bird’s walking, and person’s walking. As the result, the flow gradient feature is the effective for recognizing the flapping motion.

For precise control of tension and thickness in a tandem cold millinac celeration and deceleration conditions, we employ an onlin ear model in cluding the rolling speed as a time-varying parameter. It is demon strated in simulation results that nonlinear receding horizon control by realtime optimization achieves satisfactory performance for the nonlinear model.
Motion Analysis of Mother's Embracing and Rocking a Baby and Development of Excitation Apparatus

Recently, the people who are under a lot of stress have increased. Too much stress may cause various physical and/or mental disorders. The final aim of our project is to develop a relaxation machine for reducing stress by using rocking vibration. As rocking vibration, motion of a mother"s embracing and rocking of a baby is adopted. In this paper, we analyze the motion of the mother"s embracing and rocking of a baby using a 3D motion capture system, and design and manufacture an excitation apparatus simulating the mother"s motions. It is found from the experimental analysis that there are two types of the mother"s motions. The both motions consist of linear motion and rotational motion. The excitation apparatus has two degrees-of freedom for linear and rotational motions.
Proposal on risk communication for safe driving support system

This reports reveals importance and necessity of risk communication for safe driving support system such as AHS. The communication becomes key to succeeding with AHS implementation. Drivers ought to have opportunities to familiarize them selves with alarm unreliability or undetectable risk as well as informed consentin medical. The oppor-tunity is provided by risk communication to integrate risk-perception between drivers and vehicles. The communication is performed by trading responsibility and usability. Risk-perception integration interface becomes essential for alarm devices such as safe driving support system. Samples of integration interface are described.
Performance Evaluations of PC Clusters for Large Scale Numerical Analyses

The PC cluster is a system that is connected two or more PC on the network and uses them as one parallel computer. Conventional numerical analyses can be executed comparatively low?ost by using PC cluster. In the authors’ laboratory, the PC cluster has been constructed. The author has made a finite element analysis parallel program and evaluated it. However, there is a possibility that the performance of the PC cluster will depend on clustering software. In addition, it has become able to build a higher?erformance cluster more cheaply by the rapid progress of hardware performance. Therefore the authors have constructed the PC cluster newly using two kinds of clustering software on Windows and Linux and compared both of them. Ten PCs which equipped dual core CPU were used for PC cluster. The HPL benchmark test for the present cluster system has been conducted to evaluate the performance. As a result, the processing speed has not improved in Windows but it has improved well in Linux.
