The Perception on the Islam in Modern Japanese Society

That perception of the Islam, which is based mainly on the media coverage of the extreme Islamist or Jihadist groups, is at all time strong since IS killed two Japanese hostages in January and February 2015. However, the image of the Islam among the ordinary Japanese is not changeless. It has been made from a lot of different elements; realities found in the Islamic society, media reports covering the Middle East, education in the school and university based on the academic achievement of the Middles East and Islamic studies, exchanges with the region through the diplomacy, trade, culture, tourism, and so on. Therefore, the image changes according as changes of those elements. The results of those surveys were worse than the conductors’ pre-estimate. Major proportion of the students who answered the ‘backward’, ‘rigid doctrine’, ‘intolerant’, ‘unfree’, ‘aggressive, horrible’, ‘mysterious’, and ‘strange customs’ as factors that the word of Islam.
