The aim of this study was to compare the effect of diets on the morphological parameters of different devel opmental stages of blowflies Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius, 1794). Adult C. megacephala flies were collected from a goat cadaver and reared in the laboratory when the max and min temperature were 32 and 24 ◦ C and the relative max and min humidity were ranged between 55 and 31% respectively. Blowflies at various feeding stages (first-, second-, and third-instar larvae) received different types of diets (meat, liver, fats, and mixed). The effects of the different diets on the life cycle duration and the morphological parameters of various stages were observed. The results revealed that the fat diet prolonged the post-mortem interval (PMI) up to 298.5 ± 1.15 hrs, whereas the mixed food diet shortened PMI to the 243.67 ± 0.12 hrs. Significant variation were observed at level (F = 740.71 df = 3P < 0.001). Furthermore, the mixed food diet significantly increased the morphological parameters (length, width, and weight) for almost all stages during the life cycle of blowflies. In contrast, the fat diet decreased these parameters to the lowest level. The present findings may provide a scientific basis for the determination of PMI.
Molluscicidal Activity and Clinico-pathological Effect of Agave lophantha

Dry powder and different extracts of Agave lophantha were tested against Biomphalaria alexandrina. The results showed that the butanol extract has high molluscicidal activity. The activity of the dry powder has been found to be stable under the effect of some simulated field conditions. Also the toxicological effect of the plant on mice was tested through determination of certain parameters such as total protein, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase and acid phosphatase enzymes as well as histopathological study on liver and kidney.
An Effect of Letrozole on Gastric Cancer?

Letrozole is a drug used in the treatment of postmenopausal women with breast and ovarian tumours. There is no evidence in the literature indicating its use in treating gastric cancer. We present a 68 year old lady admitted from the emergency department with weight loss, malaise and anaemia. Investigations confirmed the presence of two different primary tumours in the left breast and the stomach. Following that this patient with oestrogen receptor positive breast cancer and oestrogen receptor negative gastric cancer was treated with letrozole for her breast cancer followed by a gastric resection. Independent histology by two pathologists pre-operatively diagnosed gastric adenocarcinoma. Post-operatively, independent analysis of the resected stomach, omentum and lymph nodes revealed no evidence of gastric cancer. Therefore we conclude that there is a possibility of letrozole having an effect on gastric cancer. Further studies are needed.

Origanum syriacum ssp. sinaicum is a medicinal perennial endemic herb grown in the mountain areas in Saint Katherine, Sinai, Egypt. Leaves of this species have a history of use in traditional herbal medicine. The efects of Murashige and Skoog’s medium (MS) containing auxins alone or in combination with cytokinin to produce calli were investigated. The obtained results showed that MS medium containing 2 mg L−1 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) alone recorded the earliest callusing time and the best callus percentage formation. The combination of 0.25 mg L−1 6-benzylaminopurine (BA) with 2 mg L−1 2,4-D resulted in the highest callus percentage and fresh weight. The diferent levels of growth regulators in the media exhibited the morphological changes in calli. Nodal segments were more efective than leaf explants in terms of callus percentage, callus fresh and dry weight, and callus initiation time. After 45 days of callus culture, the combination of 1 mg L−1 BA with 0.25 mg L−1 α-naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) was successful in promoting organogenesis, resulting in a high frequency of shootlets. The maximum number of rooting shootlets was achieved by supplementing the MS medium with 0.5 mg L−1 indole-3 butyric acid (IBA). This study reports an efective plant regeneration protocol that can be used for the conservation of endemic species.
A novel procedure for processing of the xenotime mineral concentrate of southwestern Sinai

A novel procedure for processing the xenotime mineral concentrate of southwestern Sinai (55.4% RE2O3 and 0.9% U3O8) has been studied. This procedure is based on leaching of uranium and rare earths from the xenotime concentrate using ferric sulfate solution by hydrolytic leaching with ferric ion, wherein ferric iron is precipitated to generate acid for the leaching step. The obtained slurry is washed by water and sulfuric acid. The relevant conditions of the ferric ion leaching of the concentrate and the washing step have been optimized. From the obtained sulfate liquor, rare earths are directly precipitated as oxalates. Uranium is extracted from the REE-free sulfate solution using ion exchange resin Amberlite IRA-400. Highly pure oxide products of the two interesting metal values, REEs and U, have properly been prepared.

As continues increasing the COVID-19 infections, there is an urgent need for developing fast, simple, selective, and accurate COVID-19 biosensors. A highly uniform gold (Au) microcuboid pattern was used as a microelectrode that allowed monitoring a small analyte. The electrochemical biosensor was used to monitor the COVID-19 S protein within a concentration range from 100 to 5 pmol L −1 ; it showed a lower detection limit of 276 fmol L −1 . Finally, the developed COVID-19 sensor was used to detect a positive sample from a human patient obtained through a nasal swab; the results were confirmed using the PCR technique. The results showed that the SWV technique showed high sensitivity towards detecting COVID-19 and good efficiency for detecting COVID-19 in a positive human sample.

Adriblastina, a cancerostatic anthracycline antibiotic, causes considerable oxidative damage to DNA molecules. The interaction of this compound with DNA was investigated using Osteryoung square wave stripping voltammetry (OSWSV) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) at an in situ mercury film electrode. It was found that the equilibrium constant of the bonded oxidized form of the drug was 63 times bigger more important than that of the bonded reduced form. Copper forms 1 metal: 2 drug stoichiometry complex which is highly stable compared to ssDNA-drug interaction and consequently inhibited the drug biochemical damaging effects. Copper complex offered sub-nanogram determination of adriblastina in aqueous and urine media.

Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is an inflammatory disease affects the pancreas with upcoming fibrosis and notable parenchymal destruction. CP poses a high risk for pancreatic carcinoma. The present study aimed to investigate, for the first time up to our knowledge, the effect of olive leaf extract on L-arginine induced CP with referral to some of its underlying mechanisms. Forty adult male albino rats were divided equally into four groups; control, olive leaf extract treated (200 mg/ kg orally once daily), CP group (300 mg L-arginine/100 g body weight intraperitoneally, once daily for 3 weeks then every 3 days for the subsequent 3 weeks), and CP treated with olive leaf extract group. At the end of the experiment, body weight, serum glucose, serum insulin, homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), serum amylase and lipase as well as tissue superoxide dismutase (SOD), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were assessed. Pancreatic tissues were subjected to histological and immuno-histochemical studies. The CP group revealed significant decrease in body weight and increase in serum glucose, serum insulin, HOMA-IR score, serum amylase, and serum lipase levels. Significant increase in MDA level and decrease in SOD level were detected. Marked degenerative changes and fibrosis were detected. Upregulation of alpha smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), caspase-3, and interleukin-6 (IL-6) immunoreactions were implicated in CP pathogenesis. Olive leaf extract alleviated all the examined parameters via its-antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic properties. Olive leaf extract can protect against CP and restore pancreatic functions.
