        Optimization of Tartrazine Adsorption onto Polypyrrole/SrFe12O19/Graphene Oxide Nanocomposite Using Central Composite Design and Bat Inspired Algorithm with the Aid of Artificial Neural Networks

        This project was aimed to focus on the application of bat inspired algorithm with the aid of artificial neuralnetworks (ANN-BA) as a novel metaheuristic algorithm in chemistry and environmental sciences for optimization oftartrazine dye adsorption onto the polypyrrole/SrFe12O19/graphene oxide (PPy/SrM/GO) nanocomposite from aqueoussolutions. The PPy/SrM/GO nanocomposite was fabricated by an in situ polymerization process and its structural andmagnetic properties were studied by means of several instrumental techniques. Four factors affecting adsorption process wereoptimized in a batch system by ANN-BA and central composite design (CCD). In comparison to the CCD, the ANN- BAmodel obtained through levenberg marquardt back propagation methodology, gave higher percentage removal (94 %) about6 %. Under optimal conditions obtained by ANN-BA, the values of four factors including initial concentration, adsorbentdosage, pH, and shaking rate were 15 mg/l, 0.02 g, 6.5, and 297 rpm, respectively. In the above conditions, the experimentalresults were fitted well to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model with the rate constant (k2) of 0.038 g/mg/min and theLangmuir adsorption isotherm with monolayer maximum capacity (qm) of 123.5 mg/g with determination coefficients (R2) of0.9986 and 0.9989, respectively. Thermodynamic studies revealed that tartrazine adsorption was spontaneous in alltemperatures (ΔG < 0), endothermic (ΔH=30.816 kJ/mol), and feasible process with slight increase of entropy (ΔS=0.116 kJ/mol/K). Moreover, the adsorbent application in wastewater and its regeneration studies depicted that the nanocomposite canbe applied as an effective adsorbent (R%>89), magnetic separable and reusable adsorbent (R%>50 after the sixthregeneration cycle) in environmental cleanup.

        Quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) for prediction of CO2 Henry’s law constant in some physical solvents with consideration of temperature effects

        Different types of physical solvents have been utilized for CO2 removal from natural gas in the sweetening process. In this work, quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) method is suggested to build powerful models to predict Henry’s law constant (HLC) for CO2 in physical solvents. Modeling the HLC for CO2 as a function of molecular descriptors was achieved by multiple linear regression and descriptor selection was by genetic algorithm. The main proposed model has two simple descriptors, including the number of hydroxyl groups and molecular weight of solvents at fixed temperature. Also, the effect of temperature was studied, and this operational variable was added to the mentioned simple descriptors. In this case, the data set is comprised of 77 HLC for CO2 in solvents and at different temperatures. Several internal and external validation methods demonstrated the excellent ability for prediction, and the average relative deviation of main model was 6.48.

        Molecular investigation of amine performance in the carbon capture process: Least squares support vector machine approach

        The growing threat of global warming has raised more attention towards carbon capture. Current amine plants used for carbon removal suffer from great costs inflicted by high energy demand of the solvent regeneration step. Recently, looking for amines with proper performance in reduced temperatures has been the subject of many researches. Clearly, conducting these researches without any criterion and based only on trial and error wastes large amounts of money and time; thus, it is highly needed that the effect of different amine structural parameters be studied on the amine’s cyclic capacity. Quantitative structure property relationship (QSPR) provides an effective method for predicting amines capacity for CO2 absorption. In this work, density functional theory (DFT) was employed for optimization of the molecular geometries, and linear and nonlinear models based on parameters related to the molecular structure are presented. The value of the square of the correlation coefficient (R2) for the MLR and SVM models are 0.894 and 0.973, respectively. Developed models can be used as a criterion for amine selection. Reliability and high predictability of the models are confirmed based on statistical tests. Moreover, mechanistic interpretation of models for better understanding of the reaction mechanism of carbon capture was discussed.

        Prooxidant-antioxidant balance and malondialdehyde over time in adult rats after tubal sterilization and vasectomy

        Objective: Sterilization (tubal sterilization and vasectomy) is a widely applied contraceptive method worldwide. Although most studies have described sterilization as a safe method, there are reports of tubal ligation (TL) and vasectomy complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of TL and vasectomy on the serum oxidative stress, specifically prooxidant-antioxidant balance (PAB) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, over time. Methods: Male and female rats were classified into vasectomy, sham-vasectomy, TL, and sham-TL groups, respectively. The PAB and MDA levels were measured on days 15 and 45 and months 3 and 6 after the intervention. For female rats, blood sampling was performed during the diestrous phase and estradiol and progesterone were also measured. Results: Serum PAB and MDA increased after TL (p<0.05). Vasectomy increased serum MDA remarkably after 45 days, 3 months, and 6 months (p<0.05). After vasectomy, serum PAB also increased although not significantly. Serum estradiol and progesterone decreased remarkably in the TL group compared to the sham group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Bilateral TL and vasectomy both increase the serum oxidative stress; however the imbalance after TL was very noticeable. As for the TL, the reduction of serum estrogen levels can be involved in this imbalance. Complications followed by TL or vasectomy could be due to increased levels of oxidants. Thus, prescribing antioxidants during and or after surgery may be a solution.
