Baishya, Nizara,Das, Ashok Kumar,Krishnatreya, Manigreeva,Das, Anupam,Das, Kishore,Kataki, Amal Chandra,Nandy, Pintu Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.11

Background: Patient delay can contribute to a poor outcome in the management of head and neck cancers (HNC). The main objective of the present study was to investigate the factors associated with patient delay in our population. Materials and Methods: Patients with cancers of the head and neck attending a regional cancer center of North East India were consecutively interviewed during the period from June 2014 to November 2014. The participation of patients was voluntary. The questionnaire included information on age, gender, residential status, educational qualification, monthly family income, any family history of cancer, and history of prior awareness on cancer from television (TV) program and awareness program. Results: Of 311 (n) patients, with an age range of 14-88 years (mean 55.4 years), 81.7% were males and 18.3% females (M:F=4.4). The overall median delay was 90 days (range=7 days-365 days), in illiterate patients the median delay was 90 days and 60 days in literate patients (P=0.002), the median delay in patients who had watched cancer awareness program on TV was 60 days and in patients who were unaware about cancer information from TV program had a median delay of 90 days (p=0.00021) and delay of <10 weeks was seen in 139 (44.6%) patients, a delay of 10-20 weeks in 98 (31.5%) patients, and a delay of 20-30 weeks in 63 (20.2%) patients. Conclusions: Education and awareness had a significant impact in reduction of median patient delay in our HNC cases.

DYNAMICS OF GUN VIOLENCE BY LEGAL AND ILLEGAL FIREARMS: A FRACTIONAL DERIVATIVE APPROACH

        ( Chandrali Baishya ),( P. Veeresha ) 호남수학회 2022 호남수학학술지 Vol.44 No.4

Crime committed by civilians and criminals using legal and illegal firearms and conversion of legal firearms into illegal ones has become a common practice around the world. As a result, policies to control civilian gun ownership have been debated in several countries. The issue arose because the linkages between firearm-related mortality, weapon accessibility, and violent crime data can imply diverse options for addressing criminality. In this paper, we have projected a mathematical model in terms of the Caputo fractional derivative to address the issues viz. input of legal guns, crime committed by legal and illegal guns, and strict government policies to monitor the license of legal guns, strict action against violent crime. The boundedness, existence and uniqueness of solutions and the stability of points of equilibrium are examined. It is observed that violent crime increases with the increase of crime committed by illegal guns, crime committed by legal guns and, decreases with the increase of legal guns, the deterrent effect of civilian gun ownership, and action of law against crime. Further, legal guns increase with the increase of the limitation of trade of illegal guns and decrease with the increase of conversion of legal guns into illegal guns and increase of the growth rate of illegal guns. Again, as crime is committed by legal guns also, the policy of illegal gun control does not assure a crime-free society. Weak gun control can lead to a society with less crime. Theoretical aspects are numerically verified in the present work.

A comprehensive review on different approaches for tumor targeting using nanocarriers and recent developments with special focus on multifunctional approaches

        Sahu Bhanu P.,Baishya Rinku,Hatiboruah Jyoti Lakshmi,Laloo Damiki,Biswas Nikhil 한국약제학회 2022 Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation Vol.52 No.5

Background Despite tremendous advancements in cancer treatment delivery, we are still far from achieving successful cancer prognosis and cure. The use of new nanocarriers for site-specific delivery of anticancer medicines with lower toxicity has shown promise. However, the successful translation of these works into products remains a challenge. Hence, a thorough examination of the various nanocarrier systems is required, with particular emphasis on the more recent approaches. Area Covered The review discusses how nanocarrier designs have evolved with each generation based on EPR, overexpressed receptors, stimuli-responsive systems, intracellular and extracellular targeting, immunotherapy, and the recent multifunctional theranostic approach, as well as their potential and limitations. The clinical translations of these systems, as well as the issues that have arisen, have been examined, along with potential future opportunities. Newer immunosystems and multifunctional theranostic methods have received special attention. Expert Opinion It has been observed that nanocarrier systems have evolved in three major generations. Despite all of the efforts, clinical success is limited to the first generation of EPR-based passive targeting. Active targeting is mostly limited to the preclinical stage. Tumor heterogeneity and poor delivery to the location remain a key worry and roadblock. Hence, the newer generation nanocarriers need a more multifunctional approach, combining active targeting with immunotherapy and diagnostic contrast agent delivery. Newer theranostic designs with combined effects of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other therapies such as photodynamic, photothermal, and photoacoustic need to be worked on. Besides, there is a need of finding new cancer markers, toxicity studies, and scale-up approaches to these nanosystems.

Effect of ultrasound, centrifugation, and enzymatic pretreatments on phytochemical properties and membrane fouling during microfiltration of Sohiong (Prunus nepalensis L.) juice

Dristhi Pradhan,Himakshi Baishya,Amit Baran Das 한국식품과학회 2022 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.31 No.11

The study aimed to investigate the effects of various pretreatment methods on sohiong fruit juice during the microfiltration process. The ultrasound, centrifugation, and enzymatic pretreatment processes were used before the microfiltration process of the juice. The highest total phenolic content, anthocyanin content, and antioxidant activity of sohiong fruit juice were observed after enzymatic pretreatment. However, the browning index and color of the sohiong juice deteriorated with enzyme pretreatment. The fouling behavior of the microfiltration process for the pretreated sohiong juice was well explained by the complete pore-blocking model as the coefficient of determination (R2) varied from 0.821 to 0.971. All pretreatment methods significantly (p ≤ 0.05) increased the initial flux of the microfiltration process, and the highest flux was observed for the enzyme pretreated juice. Furthermore, as compared to alternative pretreatments following microfiltration, the enzyme pretreated fruit juice had a high sensory acceptance. The work manifested a way to develop high-quality sohiong fruit juice with a low fouling tendency.

Kinetic and Equilibrium Modeling of Anionic Dye Adsorption on Polyaniline Emeraldine Salt: Batch and Fixed Bed Column Studies

        Sibani Majumdar,Anamika Baishya,Debajyoti Mahanta 한국섬유공학회 2019 Fibers and polymers Vol.20 No.6

In this work, removal of anionic dye Eosin Yellow (EY) by polyaniline emeraldine salt (PANI-ES) from theaqueous medium was studied by using both batch and fixed-bed column mode. Before and after the dye adsorption, theadsorbents were characterized by UV-Vis, FTIR, and XRD analysis. The morphology of the adsorbent was also studied byscanning electron microscopy (SEM). The batch adsorption study was performed by varying the initial concentration of thedye and pH. The experimental results obtained were fitted to the three isotherm models namely Langmuir, Freundlich, andTemkin and the Langmuir isotherm was found to be the best fitting model with the adsorption capacity 335 mg/g. Theadsorption process followed pseudo second order kinetics. The thermodynamic study was also performed andthermodynamic parameters ΔHo, ΔSo, and ΔGo were calculated. The adsorption experiments were also carried out in packedcolumns by varying some important factors like flow rate, bed height, pH, and the initial dye concentration. The experimentalresults obtained were fitted using Bohart-Adams, Yoon-Nelson, and Thomas models. Among the models studied, the highestadsorption capacity, 79.0 mg/g was calculated from Thomas model at pH 4 with 375 mg/l initial concentration, flow rate0.3 ml/min, and bed height 1.4 cm.
