In this study, the effects of hybrid magnesium hydroxide/montmorillonite (MH/MMT) on the flame retardancy, thermal, mechanical, morphological and thermo-mechanical properties of polyamide 6/polypropylene (PA6/PP) nanocomposites prepared by melt blending technique were investigated. The partial replacement of MH with MMT (2 and 4 wt%) was done at total filler content of 30 wt% and maleated polypropylene was used as compatibilizer. Mass loss calorimeter analysis revealed that the peak heat release rate and total heat evolved values reduced in the presence of MMT due to the formation of the protective surface and insulation layer by MMT within the MgO layer formed on the surface upon combustion. The char residue also strengthened by migration of MMT layers to the surface of char. The thermal stability and flame retardancy of PA6/PP/MH/MMT nanocomposites improved with increasing MMT content. The MMT layers were well dispersed in the nanocomposites. The stiffness and toughness of PA6/PP/MH nanocomposites increased while the strength maintained with incorporation of MMT. The degree of crystallinity of both PA6 and PP increased with the addition of MMT while the melting point remained unaltered. The synergistic combination of MH and MMT has indeed maintained the mechanical properties of nanocomposites while further improving the flame retardancy.

In this research, an experimental investigation is carried out with pure silicone of five different grades and blended mixture of differentgrades of silicone at 1:1 volume fraction for the development of a skin-like soft material for robotic applications. The samples areprepared by compression molding and tensile testing was performed on dumb-bell shaped specimens as per ASTM D412 standardat crosshead speed of 250 mm/minute It is observed from the experiments that silicone grade 10 crosslinked with Luperox 101 yieldedthe tensile strength of 2.189 MPa which is closer to the human skin in forearm. It is also derived from the experiments that blendedmixtures revealed the lower tensile strength than pure silicone of the same grade. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) studies were also done on samples to understand the dispersion of the compounds andmechanical damages in the developed soft material. Finally, the numerical simulation for Mooney-Rivlin, Ogden and Yeoh non-linearmaterial modes are carried out and non-linear material constants of Silicone grade 10 are computed and tabulated. The developedsoft material will be used in robotics for soft manipulation in future.

Purpose: Decriminalisation of drug use is an alternative policy that many experts, including health experts, legal and enforcement experts, and stakeholders in non-government organisations (NGOs), uphold. In Malaysia, this policy was initiated in 2019 by the government to remove criminal penalties from various laws against drug possession for personal use. This study aimed to explore perceptions of drug rehabilitation officers and relapsed drug users towards decriminalising drug use that could be implemented in Malaysia. This qualitative research used an inductive approach. Methods: This study used a semi-structured, face-to-face individual interview guide. A total of 15 drug rehabilitation officers from the National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA) and 15 relapsed drug users were interviewed. Results: Thematic analysis generated three themes from raw transcripts: (1) potential outcomes of decriminalisation of drug use in Malaysia, (2) readiness of the public to accept decriminalisation of drug use, and (3) readiness of government and NADA in implementing decriminalisation of drug use. Conclusion: Findings of this explorative research provide important insight into the growing body of knowledge on decriminalisation of drug use policy in Malaysia.
