      • STUDIES ON GRAVITY BLIND BACKFILLING FOR GROUND STABILIZATION ABOVE ABANDONED UNDERGROUND MINES

        Samir Kumar Pal,Subir Kumar Mukhopadhyay,Susmita Panda,Anup Kumar Tripathi 한국암반공학회 2010 한국암반공학회 학술대회 및 세미나 자료집 Vol.2010 No.10

Blind hydraulic backfilling is a commonly adopted technique for subsidence control of the strata over unapproachable water-logged underground excavations, particularly in coal mining. There are three variants in blind backfilling, viz., the hydro-pneumatic, the pumped-slurry, and the simple gravity backfilling. This paper mainly describes investigations carried out on gravity blind backfilling technique on the experimental model as well as in the field, since it is the simplest and the easiest among the three methods which can be used for stabilization of ground over old abandoned water-logged mines. On examination of the filling process, it was revealed that the basic process of filling occurs by sand transportation along one or more meandering channels. In the study, the relative influence of sand, water and air flow rates on the area of filling from a single inlet point and the hydraulic pressure loss per unit length were studied in detail. Inlet pressure variation with time, known as pressure signature, have been used to study the changes in the physical filling phenomena inside meandering channels and pre-jamming phase of filling. This procedure has the potential to maximize the sand throughput from a single inlet pipe at minimum possible time. Of all the above mentioned methods, simple gravity backfilling was found to be economic as well as efficient, especially when the flow rates are high. Some empirical relationships developed using multiple regression technique for use by the practicing engineers for the process control while employing this process are also discussed in the paper.

Real-Time Implementation of Shunt Active Filter P-Q Control Strategy for Mitigation of Harmonics with Different Fuzzy M.F.s

Mikkili, Suresh,Panda, Anup Kumar The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2012 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.12 No.5

This research article presents a novel approach based on an instantaneous active and reactive power component (p-q) theory for generating reference currents for shunt active filter (SHAF). Three-phase reference current waveforms generated by proposed scheme are tracked by the three-phase voltage source converter in a hysteresis band control scheme. The performance of the SHAF using the p-q control strategy has been evaluated under various source conditions. The performance of the proposed control strategy has been evaluated in terms of harmonic mitigation and DC link voltage regulation. In order to maintain DC link voltage constant and to generate the compensating reference currents, we have developed Fuzzy logic controller with different (Trapezoidal, Triangular and Gaussian) fuzzy M.F.s. The proposed SHAF with different fuzzy M.F.s is able to eliminate the uncertainty in the system and SHAF gains outstanding compensation abilities. The detailed simulation results using MATLAB/SIMULINK software are presented to support the feasibility of proposed control strategy. To validate the proposed approach, the system is also implemented on a real time digital simulator and adequate results are reported for its verifications.

PI and Fuzzy Logic Controller Based 3-Phase 4-Wire Shunt Active Filters for the Mitigation of Current Harmonics with the Id-Iq Control Strategy

Suresh Mikkili,Anup Kumar Panda 전력전자학회 2011 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.11 No.6

Commencing with incandescent light bulbs, every load today creates harmonics. Unfortunately, these loads vary with respect to their amount of harmonic content and their response to problems caused by harmonics. The prevalent difficulties with harmonics are voltage and current waveform distortions. In addition, Electronic equipment like computers, battery chargers, electronic ballasts, variable frequency drives, and switching mode power supplies generate perilous amounts of harmonics. Issues related to harmonics are of a greater concern to engineers and building designers because they do more than just distort voltage waveforms, they can overheat the building wiring, cause nuisance tripping, overheat transformer units, and cause random end-user equipment failures. Thus power quality is becoming more and more serious with each passing day. As a result, active power filters (APFs) have gained a lot of attention due to their excellent harmonic compensation. However, the performance of the active filters seems to have contradictions with different control techniques. The main objective of this paper is to analyze shunt active filters with fuzzy and pi controllers. To carry out this analysis, active and reactive current methods (id-iq) are considered. Extensive simulations were carried out. The simulations were performed under balance, unbalanced and non sinusoidal conditions. The results validate the dynamic behavior of fuzzy logic controllers over PI controllers.

MRAS Speed Estimator Based on Type-1 and Type-2 Fuzzy Logic Controller for the Speed Sensorless DTFC-SVPWM of an Induction Motor Drive

Ramesh, Tejavathu,Panda, Anup Kumar,Kumar, S. Shiva The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2015 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.15 No.3

This paper presents model reference adaptive system speed estimators based on Type-1 and Type-2 fuzzy logic controllers for the speed sensorless direct torque and flux control of an induction motor drive (IMD) using space vector pulse width modulation. A Type-1 fuzzy logic controller (T1FLC) based adaptation mechanism scheme is initially presented to achieve high performance sensorless drive in both transient as well as in steady-state conditions. However, the Type-1 fuzzy sets are certain and cannot work effectively when a higher degree of uncertainties occurs in the system, which can be caused by sudden changes in speed or different load disturbances and, process noise. Therefore, a new Type-2 FLC (T2FLC) - based adaptation mechanism scheme is proposed to better handle the higher degree of uncertainties, improve the performance, and is also robust to different load torque and sudden changes in speed conditions. The detailed performance of different adaptation mechanism schemes are performed in a MATLAB/Simulink environment with a speed sensor and sensorless modes of operation when an IMD is operates under different operating conditions, such as no-load, load, and sudden changes in speed. To validate the different control approaches, the system is also implemented on a real-time system, and adequate results are reported for its validation.

      • Reduction of Proliferation and Induction of Apoptosis are Associated with Shrinkage of Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma due to Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy

Sarkar, Shreya,Maiti, Guru Prasad,Jha, Jayesh,Biswas, Jaydip,Roy, Anup,Roychoudhury, Susanta,Sharp, Tyson,Panda, Chinmay Kumar Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.11

Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) is a treatment modality whereby chemotherapy is used as the initial treatment of HNSCC in patients presenting with advanced cancer that cannot be treated by other means. It leads to shrinkage of tumours to an operable size without significant compromise to essential oro-facial organs of the patients. The molecular mechanisms behind shrinkage due to NACT is not well elucidated. Materials and Methods: Eleven pairs of primary HNSCCs and adjacent normal epithelium, before and after chemotherapy were screened for cell proliferation and apoptosis. This was followed by immunohistochemical analysis of some cell cycle (LIMD1, RBSP3, CDC25A, CCND1, cMYC, RB, pRB), DNA repair (MLH1, p53) and apoptosis (BAX, BCL2) associated proteins in the same set of samples. Results: Significant decrease in proliferation index and increase in apoptotic index was observed in post-therapy tumors compared to pre-therapy. Increase in the RB/pRB ratio, along with higher expression of RBSP3 and LIMD1 and lower expression of cMYC were observed in post-therapy tumours, while CCND1 and CDC25A remained unchanged. While MLH1 remained unchanged, p53 showed higher expression in post-therapy tumors, indicating inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis. Increase in the BAX/BCL2 ratio was observed in post-therapy tumours, indicating up-regulation of apoptosis in response to therapy. Conclusions: Thus, modulation of the G1/S cell cycle regulatory proteins and apoptosis associated proteins might play an important role in tumour shrinkage due to NACT.

      • Reduced Expression of Limd1 in Ulcerative Oral Epithelium Associated with Tobacco and Areca Nut

Maiti, Guru Prasad,Ghosh, Amlan,Chatterjee, Ramdas,Roy, Anup,Sharp, Tyson V.,Roychoudhury, Susanta,Panda, Chinmay Kumar Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.9

Purpose: The aim of this study was to cast light on initiating molecular events associated with the development of premalignant oral lesions induced by tobacco and/or areca nut. Method: Immunohistochemical analyses of cell cycle regulatory proteins (LIMD1, RBSP3, p16, RB, phosphorylated RB, p53), EGFR and SH3GL2 (EGFR associated protein) were performed with inflammatory/ulcerative epithelium and adjacent hyperplastic/mild dysplastic lesions. Results: No change in expression of the proteins was seen in inflammatory epithelium. Reduced nuclear expression of LIMD1 was evident in ulcerative epithelium. In hyperplastic lesions, reduced expression of RBSP3, p16, SH3GL2 and overexpression of p-RB and EGFR were apparent. Reduced nuclear expression of p53 was observed in mild dysplastic lesions. Conclusion: Our data suggest that inactivation of LIMD1 in ulcerative epithelium might predispose the tissues to alterations of other cell cycle regulatory and EGFR signaling proteins needed for the development of premalignant oral lesions.
