Automatic Inspection of As-Built Piping System for Design Consistency

As the exploration for resources moving deeper into the oceans, lifetime and complexity of offshore plants increases, effective management of the plants require high precision built consistent CAD models. This paper presents a new algorithm to automatically detect as-built position of pipes, flanges and elbows which can be extended to tee junction, corresponding to their as-designed models. These positions can be used to modify the CAD model or the construction depending on the difference in as-designed and as-built positions. The algorithm uses Laser Scanned Point Cloud for as-built information and CAD model for the as-designed. The algorithms are implemented based on Point Cloud Library (PCL) and verified with industrial data.
Bill of Materials Template for Each Design Phase in Ship Design Process Using Aras Innovator

Recent increase in the competition between the shipyards made the shipyards to provide the end product in lesser time and price with higher quality. In order to achieve these goals, it has become necessary for them to implement a PLM system. In this paper, we propose the use of customized Aras Innovator PLM System integrated with the Shipbuilding CAD software AVEVA Marine in shipyards with focus on the bill of materials (BOM) templates for each design phase of ship. We have analyzed the Ship design process and the outputs at each phase and implemented their BOMs in Aras Innovator, an open source PLM system. Most of the small sized shipyards don’t have both the PLM and ERP Systems. Whereas the medium sized shipyards have ERP Systems. The Aras PLM System does the work of resource planning needed in these types of shipyards. Hence, this PLM system will be able to be adopted newly in small sized shipyards and in place of ERP Systems in medium sized shipyards to be competitive.

The data control concept of shipbuilding CAD is different with mechanical CAD because it is database oriented system due to the heavy manufactures. It makes the difference between mechanical CAD connector and shipbuilding CAD connector for the exchange of data. In this paper, we present the concept and developed the AVEVA Marine and ARAS Innovator connector. We defined the data set to be exchanged between two systems, developed the connector and finally verified it by testing to the Keyplan drawing of AVEVA Marine.
