외국인직접투자의 동태적 특성 및 영향요인에 관한 연구

하종욱 ( Ha Jong Ug ),최귀련 ( Choe Gwi Lyeon ) 한국국제통상학회 2003 국제통상연구 Vol.8 No.1

This paper is, first, to the analyse dynamic characteristics of inward foreign direct Investment(FDI) Into Korea through examining the index of investment concentration by industry, country, and equity participation and, second, to empirically find the industry-specific determinants by using the statistical analysis. The model in the paper assumes that the current levels of Inward FDI are based on the past levels of Independent variables and examines the determinants using the Fixed Effect Model taking into account both industry effect and year effect. The result shows that the inward FDI by industry has seemed to have a similar trend to that of comparative advantage of the Korean industry. The inward FDI by countries shows that the USA has the highest concentration on the transport equipment, electricity and electronics industries, while the EU has been highly concentrated on the chemical industry and the medical-pharmaceutical industry. On the other hand, Japan has kept a relatively high concentration on the machinery industry. The investment by the mode of equity participation shows that most of wholly owned subsidiaries are concentrated on the machinery, transport equipment, electricity and electronics industries. After exploring the time lagged models for the analysis of determinants of the inward FDI, the 2-years lagged value model is the most proper one to explain the relationship between the inward FDI and the industry-specific factors. With this model(k=2), the result of time-series and cross-sectional regression analysis (TSCSREG) proposes that the variables including advertising intensity, capital intensity, sales, and industry comparative advantage are positively significant with the inward FDI.
