In recent years, application of hot-stamped components are extending in the automotive industry in order to reduce weight and to improve the strength of vehicles. In hot stamping process, blank is hot formed and press hardened in a tool. Temperature of the hot stamping tool with no cooling channel gradually increases under a mass production. Thus cannot meet the critical cooling rate to obtain high strength about 1,500MPa. And warpage can occur in the hot stamped component due to non-uniform stress state caused by unbalanced cooling. Therefore, tools should be uniformly as well as rapidly cooled down by the coolant which flows through cooling channel. Hence two viewpoints to design cooling channel were suggested in this paper. One is to reduce facility and maintenance costs and another is to reduce cooling cycle time. Design methods in two viewpoints are applied to hot stamping tools for manufacturing roof side which is automotive component respectively. Cooling performance and uniformity of designed cooling channel were verified by cooling cycle analysis.
