The detection method of soot mass consists of differential pressure model and soot simulation model. Differential pressure model has the demerit on the accuracy to detect soot mass in case of NO₂ regeneration, filter deviation and parking effect. The method to detect soot mass in simulation model can be analyzed with two major parameters, lambda and exhaust gas volume flow. To make up for weak ponits in differential pressure model, this paper presents the simulation model development process and verification by using two parameters for soot mass detection.

Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) system is considered as the most effective method to reduce particulate mater (PM) out of diesel exhaust. In general, aluminum titanate (AT) or silicon carbide (SiC) has been employed as the base materials for DPF monolith in diesel vehicles. Currently, a material, called cordierite (Cd), has been adapted for the DPF of a modern SUV with 2-liter CRDI diesel engine, complying EURO-V regulations. In spite of its lower cost relative to AT or SiC, the DPF system has been developed with new and ingenious regeneration strategies to overcome its relative disadvantages on heat capacity and thermal conductivity.
