The fatigue failures of vehicle body structure in durability test have been considered local problems caused by notch (e.g. poor design), defect in welding and deficiency of strength. The solution of these problems relied heavily upon adding the reinforcement, increasing the size and thickness. Above often results in over-design and increasing time for vehicle development in body durability test. The fatigue failures of body structure mostly cause of global problem, not local. There are two cases of global problem; one is sharp change in stiffness - discontinuous static stiffness, the other is resonance of body structure - dynamic stiffness. Running mode test is a well-understood and widely accepted tool for troubleshooting vibrational, acoustical and fatigue problems. In terms of road simulator, the running mode test of full trimmed-body enables to solve the durability problems caused by resonance of vehicle body in a short time. The mode analysis of vehicle system (e.g. suspension, engine, body) for the causes and counterproposals of fatigue failures is necessary.
