This study has been conducted to improve effectively the control of airborne influenza infection in residential environment. This article reported as follows. The index Γ of airborne influenza infection was suggested to describe the effect of absolute humidity on influenza virus and calculated using an air change rate N and an exponent β. The exponent β could be derived from the survival ratio of airborne influenza virus which was reported by G. J. Harper. It is usually known that keeping indoor humidity proper benefits to control the influenza infection, but an excessive ventilation and/or humidification effectuates an excessive energy consumption. Therefore, it is critical to understand the optimum level of humidity and ventilation for a room. The index Γ states tat indoor absolute humidity should be kept in a higher level than a critical point in order to control effectively the airborne infection as improving energy conservation. This means that decreasing ventilation amount and increasing indoor absolute humidity can be effective to make the index Γ (i.e. infection risk) lower.
