A military vehicle undergoes various road loads, which consequently induce the fatigue and fracture of vehicle structures. Accordingly, it is important to predict load conditions and stresses subjected to chassis components at an early design stage. This paper describes how to use finite element analysis in evaluating the strength of a spindle for the front axle of a military truck The extreme load conditions such as pothole braking, pothole cornering, oblique kerb striking, ultimate vertical, and lateral kerb striking are considered in stress analysis. To improve the stress concentration of a spindle, we try to change the critical factors, that is, the oil seal mounting radius and space, and spindle notch.
