본 연구는 경찰관들의 업무와 관련된 스트레스(WRS) 요인과 그들의 개인적 특성(부서, 성별, 연령, 계급 등)들 간의 관련성을 찾아 WRS의 관리 방안을 모색하는 것에 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 광주마음동행센터를 방문한 경찰관들을 대상으로 실시된 자기보고식 심리검사 중 WRS를 측정한 자료와 검사의 응답내용을 토대로 진행된 면담 내용을 분석하였다. 자료 분석 결과, WRS 요인 점수는 주취자 상대, 승진, 건강관리, 사고위험걱정, 민원인 상대, 업무로 인해 자녀 양육 및 부모님께 소홀한 점, 여가 부족, 직장내 관계, 업무에 대한 배우자의 이해부족 순으로 높게 나타났다. 업무부서 및 요인별로는 교통, 지역경찰, 생활안전, 경무 부서 근무자들로부터 주취자 상대로 인한 스트레스가 가장 심했으며, 형사/수사, 과학수사, 기동대 근무자는 승진 스트레스가 가장 높게 나타났다. 또 WRS 요인 중 부서별 평균차이가 가장 심하게 드러난 것은 주취자 상대에서 받은 스트레스였으며, 전반적인 WRS 점수는 경찰관의 성별이나 계급, 경력에 따라서도 차이가 있었다. 본 연구의 결과는 경찰관의 WRS 수준 파악 및 적절한 관리 방안 마련을 위해 필요한 기초자료를 제공해주고 있다. The purpose of this study was to suggest several management strategies of WRS (work-related stress) for police officers by examining the relationship between the factors of WRS and various variables (job division, gender, age, class, etc). Interview data for 485 police officers who visited the Gwangju Police Mental Health Center were analyzed, and the data were consisted of a self-reported WRS test and open-ended questions on job stress. The results showed that difficulties in dealing with heavily drunken people might be the most serious stressor, especially to the police officers of patrol division, public safety division, traffic affairs management division, and public security division, whereas high risks of accidents and/or injuries to them of both criminal investigation and scientific investigation divisions. In addition, difficulties in getting promotions were the most general stressors for the police officers. There was a significant difference in dealing with drunken people, as a result of examining the average difference of each item. Also, according to demographic characteristics, there was a significant difference according to the officer’s gender, rank, and career. This study is of value in providing basic data necessary for understanding the level of WRS and preparing appropriate management plan by examining various factors related to the stress related to police officer 's work.
