To develop the agriculture productivity potential in the tropical and subtropical regions in relation to world's population of the future is very important. Total world's population in 2110 will reach 10.5 billion and the 95% of the population expansion will occur in previously asserted regions. The inappropriateness area for agriculture production will have mostly high population increase, and the highest rate of population increase will be in Africa. Where the population supporting capacity will be a critical situation are Central America, Southwest Asia and Africa by 2000, and these 3 regions would face in difficult situation, although it would be taken increasing level of material inputs to produce better yield. For improvement of the rate of self-supplied food in tropical and subtropical developing countries, it should be taken several scheme, namely, the accelerated development of irrigation, the expanding of cultivation acreage, high productivity level per unit area, soil conservation measures, etc. Finally, it seems that an exhaustive study on the tropical and subtropical agriculture and the appropriate agrotechnology are highly significant to feed it's population from it's own lands, and at the same time it would need resolute capital investment and technology from developed countries.

The duck-rice forming system is increasingly spread up throughout Korea since 1992. It is discussed the rice field, rice quality, weed and pest management in the duck-rice weeding system compared to conventional farming system. Moreover the optimizing duck population, system management and fertilizer application rate were reported. Energy input and output by duck-rice farming system were carefully compared with those of low input sustainable paddy field and conventional farming paddy field. To find out the environmentally sound function of duck-rice system, the total nitrogen in paddy soil and paddy water, and nitrogen cycle in paddy rice cultivation system were analysed. finally the input and output were calculated, and ecological characteristic were determined in terms of nitrogen balance, labor input, animal input, renewable energy input, turnover of soil organic matter, energy loss, non-renewable indirect and direct energy input. It was concluded duck-rice weeding system could be recommended in terms of net only environmentally sound, but also farmer's income. But there are still some research needs for successful adaption of duck-rice farming to investigate to determine the optimal population of duck in rice paddy field unit, release time of duckling, duck management after release, and strategy for duck marketing and duck processing.

소맥겹의 Glutamine Synthetase 활성도에 관한 연구 I. 엽위별 GS활성도의 차이 및 출수후 "V"자형 변화현상

소맥생육기간중의 GS활성도의 경시적 변이진상을 알고저 소맥품종 Kolibri의 시비수준별, 엽위별 활성도를 분석한 결과, 1. 각엽에 있어서 생체종 1g당 GS활성도는 엽분화 초기에 극히 낮으나 엽의 전개, 신장에 따라 수배까지 증가하며 엽의 노화 진전과 더불어 하락하였다. 2. 생체종 1g당 GS활성도는 엽의 분화초기를 제외하면 아래로부터 상위엽 차순으로 높았으며, 최고의 활성도는 지엽에서 나타났다. 3. 최상위 2개엽은 최하위엽(제 1-4엽)보다 활성도와 활성 peak가 전 처리구에서 모두 2-3배 높았다. 4. 생체종 1g당 GS활성도는 제 1-4엽에서 1회의 활성 peak를 보인 반면 제6-지엽에서는 2회의 peak를 나타냈다. 5. GS활성도는 출tnrlRK지 증가하여 첫 번째 활성 peak에 이르고 그 이후 개화후 7일의 유숙기까지 급락하였다가 다시 증가하여 개화후 22일인 호숙기에 두 번찌 peak에 이르는 V자형 함몰현상을 나타냈다. The examination to find out how the activity of glutamine synthetase (GSA) develop in each wheat leaves during the growth period was carried out. GSA/g FW/leaf were very low at leaf differentiation stage and increased highly several times by unfolding and development of leaf, and declined deeply with the advance of senescence in each leaves. GSA/g FW/leaf were risen gradually from the every lower leaves to the every upper leaves, in consequence activity level and maximum peak per g fresh weight of 7th-flag leaves were two or three times higher than those at the 1st-4th leaves in all of 12 applied nitrogen treatments, thereupon. the highest activities per g fresh weight showed in the 8th leaves. GSA/g FW/leaf was shown two peaks in the 6th-flag leaves and one peak in 1st-4th leaves, respectively. GSA/g FW/leaf (except for senescence leaves) and GSA/plant were increased gradually to the infloresscence emerging stage and were shown the first maximum peak at 13 days before anthesis, then were declined rapidly. to the milk ripe stage (7 days after anthesis). and were shown the second maximum peak at the early dough ripe stage (22 days after anthesis) .
