In the social bonds model, one of the social control theories, Hirshi(1969) assumed that many people would not misbehave as the four social bonds, attachment, commitment, involvement, or belief would function in them. The authors conducted a questionnaire research to measure the two social bonds of attachment and commitment with 24 items for young people from Japan and Korea. They also measured the adjustment level of the young people in both nations with the two adjustment level index items. In attachment items, parent-child relations(parental relations), fellow-relations, teacher-student relations, in commitment items, the attitude toward studies(schoolwork), and in adjustment level index items, school truancy and drinking behavior were respectively measured. The result indicated that (1) In adjustment level 93 percent of the Koreans and 64 percent of Japanese had no truancy. This showed that the Koreans had a better adjustment ability than the Japanese subjects. (2) Approximately 71 percent of the Koreans felt they were positively viewed by teachers at schools compared to 49 percent of Japanese subjects. The Korean subjects were more stable than the japanese. (3) In parental attachment relations, the Koreans had stronger parental ties than the Japanese. The Korean subjects were viewed to be affected more by their parents ways of life than Japanese. Generally, the Korean fathers won more recognition than the Japanese. (4) The Korean subjects were more academic-background oriented than the Japanese.
