Transmission Line Analysis of Accumulation Layer in IEGT

Transmission line analysis of the surface a cumulation layer in injection-enhanced gate transistor (IEGT) is presented for the first time, based on per-unit-length resistance and conductance of the surface layer beneath the gate of IEGT. Lateral electric field on the accumulation layer surface, as well as the electron current injected into the accumulation layer, is governed by the well-known wave equation, and decreases as an exponential function of the lateral distance from the cathode. Unit-length resistance and conductance of the layer are expressed in terms of the device parameters and the applied gate voltage. Results obtained from the experiments are consistent with the numerical simulations.
High Efficiency Active Clamp Forward Converter with Synchronous Switch Controlled ZVS Operation

An active clamp ZVS PWM forward converter using a secondary synchronous switch control is proposed in this paper. The proposed converter is suitable for low-voltage and high-current applications. The structure of the proposed converter is the same as a conventional active clamp forward converter. However, since it controls the secondary synchronous switch to build up the primary current during a very short period of time, the ZVS operation is easily achieved without any additional conduction losses of magnetizing current in the transformer and clamp circuit. Furthermore, there are no additional circuits required for the ZVS operation of power switches. Therefore, the proposed converter can achieve high efficiency with low EMI noise, resulting from soft switching without any additional conduction losses, and shows high power density, a result of high efficiency, and requires no additional components. The operational principle and design example are presented. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed converter can achieve an excellent ZVS performance throughout all load conditions and demonstrates significant improvement in efficiency for the 100W (5V, 20A) prototype converter.
Optical Voltage Sensors Based on Integrated Optical Polarization-Rotated Reflection Interferometry

<P>Optical voltage sensors based on reflection interferometry of two orthogonal polarizations have been demonstrated by using a polymeric integrated optic device, in which a thermooptic phase modulator, a polarization converter, and a polarizer are integrated on a single chip. The sensing probe for electric field measurement was prepared by assembling an LiTaO3 electrooptic crystal along with a polarization maintaining collimator, a Faraday rotator, and a dielectricmirror. Spectral bandwidth of the light source was optimized to be 16.5 nm in order to provide low noise and good extinction ratio in the reflection interferometry. For an applied voltage of 60 Hz, 4 kVpp, the sensor exhibited linear response with a phase retardation sensitivity of 0.5 degrees/kV.</P>

Four 5'-substituted fluoro-neplanocin A analogues la-d were designed and synthesized, using cyclopentenone derivative 2 as a key intermediate. The inhibitory activity against SAH was in the following order: NH₂>SH>F, N₃, indicating a hydrogen bonding donor such as OH or NH₂was essential for inhibitory activity. All the final compounds showed much less decreased cytotoxicity in two cancer cell lines(Col2 and A549), implying that phosphorylation of the 5'-hydroxyl group of fluoro-neplanocin A is closely related to its high cytotoxicity.

<P>The proteasome inhibitor, bortezomib, has antimyeloma activity even in myeloma cells refractory to multiple prior treatments. The most commonly reported adverse events in patients receiving bortezomib are sensory neuropathy, thrombocytopenia and gastrointestinal events. We report a patient with myeloma who developed pseudomembranous colitis after bortezomib treatment. Bortezomib has the boronic acid moiety which improves the specificity of proteasome inhibition and can be used as non-β-lactam-based β-lactamase inhibitors. This case indicates that gastrointestinal toxicities by bortezomib may be caused, in part, as a result of change in the colonization of colonic microflora.</P><P>Copyright © 2007 S. <P>OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate computer-aided analysis of ultrasound elasticity images for the classification of benign and malignant breast tumors. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Real-time ultrasound elastography of 140 women (mean age, 46 years; age range, 35-67 years) with nonpalpable breast masses (101 benign and 39 malignant lesions) was performed before needle biopsy. A region of interest (ROI) was drawn around the margin of the mass, and a score for each pixel was assigned; scores ranged from 0 for the greatest strain to 255 for no strain. The diagnostic performances of a neural network based on the values of the six elasticity features were compared with visual assessment of elasticity images and BI-RADS assessment using B-mode images. RESULTS: The values for the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (A(z)) of the six elasticity features-mean hue histogram value, skewness, kurtosis, difference histogram variation, edge density, and run length-were 0.84, 0.69, 0.63, 0.75, 0.68, and 0.71, respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of the neural network based on all six features were 92% (36/39), 74% (75/101), 58% (36/62), and 96% (75/78), respectively, with an A(z) value of 0.89, which is significantly higher than the A(z) of 0.81 for visual assessment by radiologists (p = 0.01) and 0.76 for BI-RADS assessment using B-mode images (p = 0.002). CONCLUSION: Computer-aided analysis of ultrasound elasticity images has the potential to aid in the classification of benign and malignant breast tumors.</P>
