Drowsiness Driving Prevention System using Bone Conduction Device

( Sangwoo Hahm ),( Hyungwoo Park ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2019 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.13 No.9

With the development of IT convergence technology, autonomous driving has gradually developed; however, the vehicle is still operated by the driver, who should always be in good health - but sometimes, this is not the case. It is especially dangerous to drive when drowsy, and unable to fully concentrate on driving, such as when taking certain medicines, or through fatigue. Drowsy driving is at least eight times more dangerous than normal driving, and as dangerous as drunk driving. Previous research has looked at technology to detect drowsiness, in order to wake up drivers when necessary, or to safely stop the vehicle. Furthermore, many studies have been conducted to find out when drowsiness occurs. However, it is more desirable for the driver to take sufficient rest during a break, in order to be able to continue to focus and drive. In other words, it is important to maintain a normal state before drowsiness. In this study, we introduce a sound source to increase driver concentration and prevent drowsiness, another that can improve the quality of sleep, and a system that produces these sound sources. The proposed system has a noise reduction effect of about 15 dB. We have confirmed that the proposed sound induces an EEG of the desired form.

Which Traits of Chinese Students Reduce Social Identity During Study in Korea?

        SangWoo Hahm,Xiu Jin 인문사회과학기술융합학회 2017 예술인문사회융합멀티미디어논문지 Vol.7 No.7

Social identity plays a key role for foreign students who study abroad. In this paper, we provide a more explanation of social identity, introversion, ethnocentrism, and the need for cognitive closure. Furthermore, we also present the relationship between them. This study focused on introversion, ethnocentrism, and the need for cognitive closure, which are generally seen as negative traits, and investigated their influence on social identity. Through regression analysis, the results showed that all three traits s are negatively correlated with social identity, and that ethnocentrism had the most negative effect on social identity. Accordingly, the research findings demonstrated that students who possess such traits would have less social identity with Korea. Furthermore, for such students it would be difficult to adapt to Korean society or communicate with Korean students. Thus, such phenomena may be considered as factors that could reduce life satisfaction and lead to less than perfect outcomes while studying abroad.

Attitudes and Performance of Workers Preparing for the Fourth Industrial Revolution

( Sangwoo Hahm ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2018 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.12 No.8

Recently, the most frequently studied topics related to the fourth industrial revolution (FIR) are Big data, AI, Cloud Computing and Internet of Things- these four components are collectively known as the main components of the FIR (henceforth MCs). The MCs have a wide range of effects on workers’ performance. As such it is imperative that these components are properly understood. This understanding will lead to a proper recognition of the attitudes that workers need to adopt to the MCs. Specifically, the attitudes of workers to several variables need to be examined, including importance, intention to use, belief in improvement, efficacy to use, and negative cognition. Each of these variables plays a role in determining how worker’s performance in the FIR era will change. The performance-related variables such as self-efficacy, expectations, and acceptance of change are also crucial. These variables are related to creation of new opportunities, and can greatly influence performance in the FIR era. This study explains how specific attitudes to MCs improve performance-related factors for FIR. The adoption of these attitudes will ultimately lead to more successful adaption to the FIR era.

A Study of the Roles of Leadership Styles and Attitudes with Social Responsibility for the 4th Industrial Revolution

( Sangwoo Hahm ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2020 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.14 No.2

The 4th Industrial Revolution (FIR) has already begun. Corporations have to fulfill their social responsibilities to the FIR. This study explores the leadership and attitudes required in the FIR era for companies to fulfill their social responsibilities. In the FIR era, workers should have certain attitudes, such as self-efficacy, expectancy, and acceptance of change. If workers have these attitudes, they will be able to make a difference in the future. This study suggests the leadership styles that are needed to improve these attitudes. Participation, creativity, delegation of leadership, and inspirational motivation of leaders involves organizational change and improvement of organizational performance. This paper demonstrates the kind of leadership that is more important for each attitude through statistical analysis. Furthermore, when workers have these attitudes, not only the future, but also their current performance can be improved. To explain this relationship, the paper describes the effect of attitudes on job satisfaction. If workers have certain attitudes, their current and future performance will improve. As a result of the research, all four leadership styles had positive effects on attitudes toward FIR, and attitudes showed a mediating effect on the relationship between leadership styles and job satisfaction. In addition, it has been proven that the role of participative and delegating leadership, which is more member-oriented leadership, is more important. Leadership will enable workers to have a particular attitude through member-centered leadership, and workers will be able to increase current and future performance. Through these efforts, companies will be able to increase their performance in the current and FIR era, and fulfill their social responsibilities more faithfully. Therefore, in the FIR era, companies will play an important role in the development of society, and create new values.

An Interdisciplinary Study of A Leaders’ Voice Characteristics: Acoustical Analysis and Members’ Cognition

( Sangwoo Hahm ),( Hyungwoo Park ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2020 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.14 No.12

The traditional roles of leaders are to influence members and motivate them to achieve shared goals in organizations. However, leaders such as top managers and chief executive officers, in practice, do not always directly meet or influence other company members. In fact, they tend to have the greatest impact on their members through formal speeches, company procedures, and the like. As such, official speech is directly related to the motivation of company employees. In an official speech, not only the contents of the speech, but also the voice characteristics of the speaker have an important influence on listeners, as the different vocal characteristics of a person can have different effects on the listener. Therefore, according to the voice characteristics of a leader, the cognition of the members may change, and, the degree to which the members are influenced and motivated will be different. This study identifies how members may perceive a speech differently according to the different voice characteristics of leaders in formal speeches. Further, different perceptions about voices will influence members’ cognition of the leader, for example, in how trustworthy they appear. The study analyzed recorded speeches of leaders, and extracted features of their speaking style through digital speech signal analysis. Then, parameters were extracted and analyzed by the time domain, frequency domain, and spectrogram domain methods. We also analyzed the parameters for use in Natural Language Processing. We investigated which leader’s voice characteristics had more influence on members or were more effective on them. A person's voice characteristics can be changed. Therefore, leaders who seek to influence members in formal speeches should have effective voice characteristics to motivate followers.

Cohesiveness of Internet Based Virtual Teams in the e-business: Roles of Various Types of Leadership

        함상우 ( Sangwoo Hahm ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2018 인터넷정보학회논문지 Vol.19 No.5

A virtual team consists of various members with a range of professional skills. An IT virtual team can confer such advantages as improving creativity and solving problems in e-business. However, virtual teams are less cohesive than off-line based teams, at least partly because they do not meet face-to-face to solve problems. If the cohesion of the members in a team is weak, overall performance can decrease. Therefore, this study seeks to understand the specific types of leadership needed to increase the cohesiveness of the members in a virtual team. Leadership is the most important factor for the successful operation of a virtual team. Leaders engage members with goals, and motivate them by creating positive relationships. This study describes the idealized influence of transformational leadership in which a leader directly engages members in a goal, and the role of participative goal setting in which members set their own goals. In addition, this research demonstrates the benefits of a positive attitude of a leader towards their team members and the influence of leader-member exchanges. If the cohesion of virtual teams is improved through specific leadership, the team members will be more committed to their teams and work, and the team's performance will improve. Furthermore, the successful operation of virtual teams will provide an opportunity for companies in e-business to gain a competitive advantage in the contemporary environment, where creativity is important.
